So for the last few years I have been urinating in a scrape that's not far from a field edge. It's a community scrape. It gets hit by every buck In The woods it seems. This year is no different. Even got some big boys checking it out. I first did it to see what would happen at the end of the season. Now I do it to get pics. Seems like they are interested in it. Pretty cool.

15-Dec-14
Been doing that for years.

Never had one spook yet.

15-Dec-14
Does it help you kill the big boy or is it just fun? What's the upside? I don't see any!

I've also urinated in scrapes with no detectable adverse reaction.

For a few years now I've been trying to get my wife to do the same for me when shes "in season" but she'll have no part of it.

I explain to her all the money we could be saving on doe in heat but still no dice...

Any tips?

I tried it once...came back in a couple and Jennifer Aniston was waiting there keeping the bucks ran off....heifer.

I hunted last week out of a stand my brother and I put up in Sept., nice place for a stand... good trails, corn at my back and good wind 90%of the time. Anyhoot, I made some yellow snow out of the stand and did not see any deer but one coyote... next morning on my way to stand all kinds of tracks, the kind when a buck is searching for doe... his tracks take a deliberate turn and he walks right up to the spot under the ladder and must have investigated, his tracks showed he just back off two steps and still meandered around that area... I thought that was pretty cool.

During the two plus years I studied scrapes and started probably 50. I used nothing but my own urine. I still do today and whenever Ma Nature grants me the opportunity, I pee out of my stands...or these days, mostly on it.

Works as well or better than any commercial product I have tried. And yes, I too have a picture but am far too sensitive to post because my hands are way too small to cover the subject.

bowriter,

Just be thankful you are peeing on your stand and not down your boot. :)

Peeing in a scrape,,,, peeing out of your stand,,,, ok ,its easier to do then to use the bottles, I get that. What I don't get is how does this all fit in with deer patterning hunters? How do you think a deer patterns a hunter? Its by smell. I have a hard time believing a deer's urine smells like coffee like mine does. For my money, Ill keep my stand scent free. I've never seen any evidence that not spreading my scent around has harmed my chances any.

Works like a charm I must really pee them off to when they taste me. I have lots of sugar in mine so its sweet pee from being diabetic and theres plenty of fat in it. When I look they rip up trees and brush all around the scrape as well. I always hoped to catch one in it but never have over the years. Never hung a camera either yet. Might be interesting to see if dinks or biguns doing the tear up.

Have an acquaintance that has done this for the past few years and has scored on bucks each year. His story. I too, think that scent control is of the utmost importance.

I have heard about this. So I put a camera on a scrape and peed in it. That night I had a buck and a fox with their noses in the scrape.

I pee often now when I am in a tree. One time in OH I peed from my stand. Within an hour I had two bucks come by and one was 130-135. I never got the shot due to me being an idiot (that is for another thread).

Bottom line..it does not spook and I think it is better that the shelf stuff.

Now I eat healthy and do not drink coffee, alcohol or soda...on a regular basis. Especially before hunting.

18-Dec-14
I'm a heavy soda drinker and I will and do pee out of the tree if I need to of go before I climb. I'll pee into a scrape if I need to,, when I'm standing near a scrape. The only time I hunted black bear was in '02 in Ontario and I had to go when I was in the tree stand so I let it fly. Had a bear later come into the bait and he circled around my tree and walked right into where it flew and didn't spook. Later the guide ripped into a hunting partner for peeing after he got out of the boat on the way to his stand.. I kept quiet about the few days before when I went out of the tree. It was funny seeing him get beat up for something I knew didn't matter.

I read an excellent article several years ago in "North American Whitetail Magazine" on this very subject. It stated that 5 University accredited bio chemists were asked to analyze human urine, against deer urine, to determine if there was any discernable difference. The scientists went a step farther and analyzed several other woodland creatures, as an attempt to verify their findings. All 5 happen to be bow hunters. The results of their studies showed that the molecular properties of all urines were identical. the only difference was when pheromones were present during a does estrous cycle. It was the Pheromones that the bucks were keying in on not the urine itself. The urine was only the vehicle that the Pheromone scent molecules travel on. It was their consensus that all animals in the forest urinate, and sense the urine held no properties that could be detected by odor to distinguish one species from another, then human urine couldn't be a negative by itself. The author went a step farther and argued that in order for a every deer to be able to determine human urine from any other, he would have to first witness said human urinate, then go smell the urine, analyze it, relate it to human activity, then submit it to memory. That scenario simply can't pass muster. Farther more, of the 5 bow hunting chemists it was revealed that 4 of them peed from their stands. I'm sure this can and will bring about furious debate, but you won't be arguing with me though, it will be with the NWT Mag. and their chemists. As a small test sample of Deer and human pee. I was a 25 year loose leaf tobacco chewer and heavy coffee drinker even from my stands. For years I carried a spit bottle which doubled as a pee bottle. (I know, I know, work with me here). I had bought in to the notion of being scent free (if you will). Once I read that article I ditched the bottle and let it go. I had one particular stand that I spit and peed out of quite often and It was arguably my most productive stand. In one instances I let it go under acorn dropping tree, and I witnessed several deer feed on the very acorns I had peed and spit on with no noticeable effect. In fact one lucky young doe got a nose bath of Levi Garrett. Although it hitting her square on the snout did bring about a discernable reaction. Personally, I haven't graduating to peeing into scrapes, but its just because I haven't thought much about it. I might start though.

I have been peering in moose scrapes and wallows as well as my buddy doing it too. Definitely have had some good luck doing that. In the 10 years we have been doing it, between my buddy and me we have taken 7 moose within a couple hundred yards of those human freshened scrapes and wallows!!

I'm not sure what you are expecting to find out. It works, as testified my others here. Only time I've noticed it to spook deer was when I was taking chemo. Must been some stuff in that that made it spook the deer versus arising their curiosity. God BLess
