I had the opportunity to be invited to hunt in Kansas today with Wounded Warriors United. If you haven't heard of these guys you should check them out, they take wounded vets on hunting and fishing trips. I not only killed my first turkey ever, but I tagged out and my first bird was double bearded...Today is a day that I will absolutely never forget! here are my 2 birds...

Thanks guys! can anyone tell me if these are more Rio or Eastern?

Probably hybrid, but there's a lot of eastern in those two you shot.
Chase County was stocked with both through the years. We started with pure easterns a drainage or two west of where you were, until about 1998-2000 then we started having mixed birds.

Ok cool, I'm just gonna go ahead and call them Easterns lol

Great birds Andy, no matter what you call them! Thank you for your service, and for protecting our freedoms.
Were you hunting with Dan Bell by chance?

No, I was personally hunting with Gib Rhodes, the former president of Flint Hills Gobblers. There were 6 Vets and 6 Guides but no Dan to my recollection.

Great cause.....I volunteer as a adaptive ski equipment instructor for Wounded Warriors at my local ski area on Thursday afternoons and I am familiar with the good feeling that comes from this kind of work.
Thank you for doing it for them and thanks for sharing it with us.
