My son shot this nice cinammon last night. We were in the Foothills of Alberta. He made a textbook 43 yd shot. Unreal blood trail from the Wasp Jak Hammer!
Was snow on the ground...made the blood trailing a little easier...happy kid on the pack out
Great bear, great shot, great blood trail, congrats to your son!!!
I just returned from a spring black bear bowhunt in Manitoba. I hunted with Dean McCullough at Muskeg Country Outfitters in Erickson, MB (about 3 hours northwest of Winnipeg). Dean runs a good camp and has some of the best bear hunting in the province. His hunting areas adjoin a large national park where there is no hunting, so he sees a steady stream of big bears. I have gotten several bears in the past, so I was specifically looking for a bigger bear that would meet the Pope and Young Club minimum standard (18 inch skull size). It is tougher hunting that way, because you have to be prepared to come home empty handed (you won’t shoot a big bear if you shoot a small one first).
I saw lots of bears- 34 all together in the 5 days of hunting. Interestingly, more than half were color-phase bears (brown, cinnamon, and blond in color). On one occasion, I saw a brown sow with a blond cub and a jet black cub- very that was pretty cool.
There were three other hunters in camp, and each got a nice bear- two were color phase and one was black. It was a successful week for the camp.
On my last day of hunting, there was a steady parade of bears all day. Bears don’t play nicely with one another (bigger bears attack, and even kill, smaller bears). So when a small bear stops eating, looks up and listens in a specific direction, and then runs off at full speed, there is a good chance a bigger bear is coming in. It went on that way all day. Near dark, one of the bears that came in was clearly bigger than the rest, and I hoped he was the bear I was looking for. As he came in, he gave me a good broadside shot at 17 yards, and piled up nearby. It wasn’t until Dean and I got to him that I understood how big the bear was. He weighed in at 380 pounds and squared at 7 feet. The taxidermist has not measured the skull yet, but I feel certain it will meet the P&Y minimum.
Great bear Goldy! Congrats!
First year living and hunting in BC. Spot and stalk P&Y bear.

First bear hunters have arrived in camp and we had a great start with this spot and stalk bear in BC. This hunt has been above average so far with about 13 bear sightings a day and lots of stalks. Jack

May 11,2015 With Sugarloaf outfitting, Manitoba. 340 lbs, 19 in skull.
This is the result of our 4th year with Sugarloaf Outfitting in Manitoba. The previous pic is my wife with her first bow-killed bear, and mine is 310lbs with a 20 inch skull. There are a lots of bears and some great ones in those hunts around the Riding Mountain National Park.
Manitoba this week with Desjardins. Was able to have my youngest son Blaine catch it all on video.
My wife with my spring bear. Not a big bear, but a really unique color that matched her hair!
starting to make some progress. 25 bears and a mushroom so far.
One of the prettiest colored bears I've ever shot. Hunting with Alexis Desjardins & his brother in law Alan MacCarthy in Manitoba.
Better picture of the bear

Good bear taken here at Skinner Creek.Shot with a rifle bayed up on the ground with hounds. The most excitement a guy can have bear hunting.
Nice bear Nick! And with a stickbow!
Had a great hunt with Ben Cockell of northern Alberta outfitters last week
...better than a vacation in Mexico, Nickie? :-)
Has your wife shot one yet?
She will, on her birthday. We gotta make it three years in a row :)
Awesome nick!!! Congrats buddy!
May.19th Manitoba, not my biggest but was running short on days to hunt and loved the bug white v on this bear! Going to have lots of jerky and roasts!
My dad got this nice bear a couple weeks ago!
Here's mine from last week at Mike's Outfitting. 365 pounds, 7'2" square and 21'1/16". Couldn't be happier.
Idaho, DIY, Bowtech Carbon Knight, VPA 100Gr. 5 yd. blood trail.
Thank you all for sharing your hunts with us. One day I hope to do another spring bear hunt.
33, but it's almost june and we need to puck up the pace here.
Oh bou, it'll puck up soon!
I'm sure hoping my daughter, buddy, and I can help the pace puck up next weekend. :)
Great Bears everyone! Congrats!
Here's my first...May 25th, Manitoba with Bear Track Outfitters. My brother shot one as well. Out of 9 hunters, 3 filled their tags the first night with 4 others having opportunities if they wanted. Excellent service, food and from the little I know, wildly successful because of sparing no expense on baiting practices and knowledge of bear behavior.
Another one with Desjardins and MacCarthy Outfitters in Manitoba. Shot him on May 18th, the first day, which is very rare for me. Had a 10 yard shot, and he weighed 345 Pounds.
Congrats everyone! Keep them coming!
Thanks! I can't believe his head makes my melon head look small.
I got him on another successful trip set up by the guys over at Bowhunting Safari Consultants. The 6 of us shot 5 P&Y bear by day 3. We were in Northern Saskatchewan. He kinda has a short nose, so he doesn't score good. I'm thinking hell be around 18 3/4". Nose to tail was 6'.
This is my Manitoba Bruin ... Just over 7' shot on May 27th
congrats to all, some dandy Bears for sure.
Wait a minute, Frank Syracuse paid for a hunt?
Satan musta had to put on a helluva thick sweater. :-)
Some real studly bears, guys.
I have near zero desire to shoot one, but I danged sure like looking at the smiles of those who do.
Keep 'em coming.
Shot this one 5/25 in BC with my buddy Darcy. He's a bowling ball of a bear, no neck, big head, heavy SOB.
Spot and stalk, 13 yard shot, dead in 10 seconds within sight. Spun around once after the shot, ran right at me so close I could have kicked him on the butt and died after 35 yards.
If you bait hunters like hunting bears, you should try spot and stalk. You'll never sit bait again.
Killinstuff... That's impressive! Congratulations!
South Peace Outfitters in Northern Alberta. Great folks and great hunts. This is my first black bear and had a great time.
Took this bear in northern Alberta - #2 bear.
We called him one ear cause last year he got into it with another boar and lost that ear.
I got lucky cause I was waiting on buddy to go fishing in the morning and decided to run and check apthe bait he was hitting and he was on it. I was rifle hunting but took him at 30 yards.
He we a big bear over 300lb. He was smaller than my 2nd bear which was huge well over 7ft.
As soon as my buddy sends pics of my 1st bear I'll post.
Weed...that's a gorgeous bear.
How big?
Any photos that aren't quite so distorted?
Finally got a chance to sit , looked at many videos and pics of this bear and decided he made the cut . This was my first sitting had a few friends harvest some nice bears at my bait . I GUESS PATIENCE PAYS OFF

Just shot him today at Red Willow Outfitters with my youngest son. Great time with Cameron.
My buddy's blackie. 275 pounds, squared 7 feet even. Southcentral Alaska.
@writer: Lol. Yeah. Hunter's photography magic! Estimate that he went between 200-220". For reference, I'm 6'7", 240#. Not the biggest but not even close to a rub on his hide.
Sorry for the multi-post pics. Just trying to give reference for @writer.
Figured I'd throw in a camp pic of me eating beaver in Canada.
Weedwacker, man that is an awesome bear! Not huge body wise but man is it pretty!!! I'd never pass on that bear. Congrats on an excellent trophy!
Same to all the rest, bear hunting sure is fun!

Mike you are putting in work! Thanks for adding those bears!! Nice job!
Weedwacker I don't care if it's 150 I'm shooting. That's as blonde as you get. Beautiful bear! Congrats!
Thanks, Weed, that's a stunning colored black bear. Glad you got him.
I've only seen one prettier, up in the Wind River Range. It was a big old boar about the color through the body, but the lower it went down the legs the darker the brown.
Kinda of reminded me a buckskin horse, but no Matt Dillon riding it, of course.
Congrats to everyone. Gotta be some great memories made this spring.

My 13 year old son's First Bear. Grandview Manitoba, May 29-2015. I believe he has topped me for skull size with Bear #1.
One More Pic. My son is 5"7" for reference. By the way...Last Day....Virtually Last Minute of a 5 day hunt! Something tells me The Big Man Upstairs looks out for our young hunters!
Northern Outfitters - Val D'or Quebec.
Here is the pic of bear #1. Finally got pics back from buddy.
He actually got pics of the bear several hours before I shot him that I was unaware of. This bear was big and in mint condition. His hide was amazing.
Unfortunately, we were not very smart about the post kill shots (I was the only hunter in camp as my buddies only fished). I should have been more careful but it was late and we had fished all day and I just wasn't thinking because I knew we had a late night of skinning before we got up at 4:15 am to go fishing again. Just bummed you don't really see the size of this bear with me in it. He was much bigger than my 2nd bear above and he was big as well!
My taxidermist who is a official scorer will green score him once he gets the bears. I will report back.
BTW Killed him with an old Russian rifle my guide let me use - it's a 303. Killed the bear at 10 yards which would have been a easy bow kill. I just had so much fishing stuff that I got lazy. Next year I will take my bow.
St8tman - or anyone else with relevant experience - did hanging the bear up like that rub any hair off and damage the mount/rug?
i have no experience with bears so i'm not sure how tough their hides/hair are. rare to see a pic of a hung bear though - and its a great pic!
LlBuck, The outfitter had a "harness" made for the legs to attach to the hook on his tractor's forks. When he let the bear down you could not even see any evidence that it had ever been hung. In fact, thinking back on it, we did not make it back to camp until 2:00am after a helluva trek through the Canadian bush retrieving the bear. It was 29 degrees Fahrenheit, and he hung the bear up that night to prevent coyotes/varmints from reaching it. As far as I could tell not a hair missing! My son was so happy, not sure anything short of losing his bear would have made a difference anyway. My Best
Gabe with his old boar, a great bear for one of the WWIAF veterans.
May 28, Northern Saskatchewan
Congrats to this thread creator
The details that matter was it was taken on the last night 5 minutes before legal shooting at 11 yards, 7the bear seen that night. I was hunting with TSI and they run a great operation. The bear was dwarfed by the 400 pounder taken by a hunter that same evening, but I was pleased and will return again next year.
Wow! Sometimes closing the deal at the last minute is the sweetest on so many levels!
Congrats on a fine bear.
coonazz the head on your bear is massive. did you measure that thing? VERY IMPRESSIVE!
My first Alaskan bear. Taken last week just south of the Yukon River. My best bear to date until 30 min later when a much larger boar came in on us skinning in the thick stuff.
My 2nd bear. Approached us when we were skinning my first. He was popping his jaws and huffing, circling between us and the boat. I stood guard with the rifle while the guide skinned. Too thick for a bow and he was coming head on so I fired as he got to 15 yds. He squared 7.5 feet.
Wow. Awesome bears Ursus!
June 3 at Stickflingers in Manitoba. 55# Silvertip longbow, tapered Surewood douglas fir arrows and a 4 blade Magnus I. 40 yard recovery.

My daughter's first bear hunt and first morning of hunting. She put in a hard 20 minutes. Nice young 180# (on a scale) boar. Not bad for a NYC school teacher.
Her bear had some impressive feet and claws.
Shot in New Brunswick on Thursday last week.
My first and second Alaskan black bears... Not too shabby for my first weekend after moving here. We killed a brown bear and 3 blackies between 3 of us in 2 days and many more to come hopefully.

only half way to the goal of 160. we need some outfitters posting!
Bou if some of the outfitters on the other threads posted here we would be very close to that goal!
This has to be one of the better years I have seen and the number of posts and stories seem to much higher.
It's been a great bear season.

My first bear. Bear Track Outfitters, Manitoba.
My buddy Tim with his first bear. Bear Track Outfitters, Manitoba.
Millie (Lady Bowhunter) took this Cinnamon Sow, on June 1, while hunting with KL Outfitters, Dorintosh SK.
For the past few season's she's vowed to take either a GIANT black or color phase bear. This bear showed itself on Day 1, hour 4 of a scheduled 6 day hunt.
She hunted with her a Quest "BLISS" bow (pink camo and 50# at 26"), Victory Pink arrows tipped with a Montec 100. Shot was about 17 yards, recovered within 25 yards.
Congrats Andy, #1 bear in the books and a pretty one at that!!
New Brunswick spring bear 411 lbs......bowhunters first bear.
great bears guys!!! keep them coming, nothing like big spring bruins. I hope to contribute 3 more.

we have beat 2011 and 2013 and are within 5 of last year's 136. We will smash the all time high of 158 different bears reported back in 2012.
Beautiful bears everyone!
Bou, I hope to add a couple of fall bears to the list!

Her husband also shot a real nice one during there trip with us
We had a great spring bear season with about 60 bear sightings per 6 day trip.

This picture exaggerates the size of the bear somewhat but all the pictures from my camera were overexposed because of an adjustment that was awry.
This one was a picture taken with my wife's camera that was adjusted properly.
If you want to read details of the hunt you can go to the thread "bad shot Friday, good shot Monday".
Congrats to all the successful bear hunters. All credit to friends on this one. I'd rather be lucky then good!
Taxi is an official scorer and just sent my scores back - 1st bear 19 11/16 2nd bear 18 9/16. Woohoo! Not bad for a world class pike camp!
Wow sage two P&Ys on the same trip. Well done. we are up to 148, but there are a lot of bears on other threads that are not being captured here. It would be nice to get them all in one place (but we have some guys who want to stand out alone it seems).
Just returned from remote lake camp in northern SK, 6 hunters killed 6 bears, zero wounded was a thing o' beauty. Bob Delaney, CT 19 5/16" At 78 years young he is a hunting machine, hope I have half his energy at that age!
Matt Quick, NC has hunted with me 5 years in a row, this was his first bear killed with a recurve, perfect motm shot, bear went 25 yards and tipped over. 18 4/16"
Bradley Mongold WV 19" even. Like me he has the most fun hunting on the ground and had multiple bears in slapping distance. Another hunting machine, he completed the NA archery slam in 2012
Phil Van Dongen, NC 19 14/16". His son Matthew also killed a good bear 19 10/16" but his pics are on a different card and don't have time to post them now, am leaving for extreme northern SK for fish guiding duties, will try to get his pic and successful hunters from my south camp also when I return. Congrats to all the successful hunters and guides on here, some great bears taken again.

oh no no no no you don;t ed. just drop in a picture of a great grizzly like that with no comments, details, etc. not acceptable in the least.
WOW!! Looking forward to hearing the story on that one.
Freelance Outdoor Adventures. Awesome outfitter. I considered it a grizzly paradise seeing around 25 bears. My awesome guide spotted this boar nearly 6 hours earlier on a distant mountain. It worked our way and we bailed off the vantage point in order to intercept. A sow was trailing it and both bears covered ground quickly. We made it to 150 yards and the bears turned away from us. Predator calling was to no avail. The boar made his way to another sow in some tall pine and emerged with the new sow running full tilt away from him. The original sow continued to follow him. The boar continued at his pace after the sow he was trailing. The bears went out of sight but we headed their way. Nearly three hours later, my guides relocated them. The boar broke off the sow he was trailing and was taking a different course. He was cutting through the lower edge of the alder positioned above his hump(from left to right) in the picture. We came from above and I was positioned on the other side of the alder looking brush(just above my right shoulder). He came by at a fast pace. I had ranged a bush at 35 yards. He must have been closer as the shot was high and he must have been walking faster than I thought as the shot was back also. It took out the lungs however. He was dead in 15 seconds. Great outfitter, great guides and great equipment.!
Gorgeous Griz! What a beauty! Congratulations!!
156, but the grizzly should count as 10!
Ed wins! Congrats on a beautiful trophy! That's the stuff dreams are made of! Way to go!

Thanks, Probably my best animal score-wise. Fish and Game had it at 24 9/16
Can’t top Ned’s beautiful bear but was fortunate enough to take this one in the same area about a week later with Freelance. My guide and good friend, Mark Gutsmiedl, spotted a boar and sow in the morning. After hiking down, the fog and rain set in and we were unable to locate. We looked for 12 hours before heading back to camp around midnight. On the way back, Mark spotted a boar meandering around on the tundra. The wind was perfect and the chase that would cover 1-½ miles was on. We closed the distance to about 200 yards but couldn’t do any better until the boar reached a large alder thicket and lay down out of the wind. Had he not stopped there, it would have been game over. He was facing directly towards us but had his head down and apparently unaware of our presence. I walked up to 42 yards, drew my bow and started easing around to improve the angle. As I did, he saw me and raised his head and gave me a frontal shot. The arrow entered his chest between the front shoulders and exited his right hip. He ran about 50 yards into the alders where he died. As Ned said, top-notch outfitter and guides.
Awesome bear Blake. What was neat is that we both got our bears out of the same camp. I notice your bear is colored different and even the claws are darker. What a beast!
Thanks Ned and congrats again on your awesome bruin. Different color variations pretty cool on the grizzlies. Definitely a hunt to remember for both of us - gotta love it when it works out!!
Forgot to post my bear on this thread. June 11. Manitoba.

Dan (Rocking R), it was a pleasure and a highlight of my trip to help drag your bear out of that God forsaken dead timber. You done good & I know Nolan was pumped!!!

Nichole with her 360# Manitoba bruin. I have not measured the skull yet but we are hopeful it will make P&Y!
First bear ever. 9/1/15 MN. All the credit goes to my buddy who did all the baiting and stand placement! 350 lbs live weight, skull 19". Awesome memories in the MN North Woods!
Shot this bear as it was standing looking directly at me. Arrow went straight thru the sternum and exited out the back between the shoulder blades 1" from the spine. The bear ran 30 yards and piled up with sight of my stand. Elite 35 at 60 lb and a 125 gr Gravedigger broadhead.
Here is a fall bear from Colorado. Spotted him feeding down a trail while elk hunting. I set up just off the trail, and when he came by the clearing in the brush a cow call got him up on his hind legs. A shot through the sternum and spine (about 1" from the spinal cord) caught an edge of the lung and the arteries above the heart. 80 yard death sprint and he piled up.
Normally carry the bear tag as repellent, but it didn't work this year. Picture doesnt give the color phase of this bear credit!
My son's 2nd bear, He did all the baiting in no quota MN. Placed a perfect shot. 29 yrd recovery. Very nice bear. Meat is excellent.

Was lucky enough to finally draw a tag in Northern Wisconsin this year. I started baiting in late July and it was getting wiped out every day with lots of bear on the camera every day. Things really started to die down at my bait this week and the good bear I had been hoping for and had been on camera every day hadn't showed in a week so I decided now was the time to concentrate on taking one of the other bear I had been seeing which wasn't gonna be real easy because they pretty much quit coming in and when they were it was at night. I was pretty nervous because I've passed up a lot of bear this year and now all of a sudden they seemed to disappear and I'm down to just over a week to go.
I got in Saturday and was disappointed to see that the bait had not been touched. I'd gone from seeing 18 bear in a day to really thinking I may not see another one this season. I was set by 3:00, the wind was supposed to be good for this stand but it was swirling all over, not much I could do about that. About 5:15 I saw one working his way in so I got ready. He came out and he looked pretty decent but he seemed a little apprehensive about coming in. Eventually he did and when he grabbed some food and turned away I drew but something wasn't right. Earlier I had put on gloves after I put my release on and now the glove was getting in the way of me reaching my release trigger comfortably. Not much I can do at this point so I started to bend to get my pin on the bear then all of a sudden thwack!!! My bow released and the arrow stuck into a tree about 14 feet high right behind the bear. He wasn't too affected by it and went back to eating. I tried to grab another arrow which wasn't real easy because I had my quiver stashed into an evergreen tree next to me. I finally got one out and knocked, adjusted my glove a little and waited for him to put his head down and drew again. This time I made sure I kept my hand and fingers away from the trigger but it still didn't feel right, my peep and kisser weren't really lining up but I was able to get my pin on my target and a good hold so I released and the arrow went over his back!! This is at 13 yards!! Again the bear wasn't alarmed, he checked out the arrow and sniffed it a couple times and went back to eating. This time I slowly was able to work my glove off and get another arrow knocked. Again as soon he turned away I drew and with my glove now off I felt real comfortable. When he came back in and was broadside I held behind the shoulder a little and released, the arrow hit right where I was aiming and he took off. I could see blood coming out as soon as the arrow hit and knew he was hit real good. He made it about 20 yards, piled up, gave 1 moan and that was it. I've taken many animals over the years all over the country and I have to say even though this isn't my biggest bear (actually my smallest at about 150# or 160# dressed) it was probably my most exciting and enjoyable hunt. What a blast. Cant wait to do it again......in 10 more years. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone.
got this little fellow in NB at TSI last week
Maine bear, I took it last month.
I figured I'd jump in while it's still 2015, shot this one last week, 520 lbs.
Wow Scott! Where did you hunt?
Well if gat is the last one we went out wih a loud bang. What a monster. Details in that one please
I shot him in North Carolina at a friends place. They have two seasons in the fall, one in mid November and one in mid December. My hunt was scheduled for December 14th through the 19th, I shot him on the 15th. I was hunting an old logging road that ran through a swamp & headed out toward a bunch of large Ag fields. He was the first bear that showed up on day two. He came by at last light and gave me a broadside shot at eight yards. Shot him with an Ulmer Edge & got a complete pass through, he only made it 30 yards before he crashed. He was an old bear and not particularly fat, his upper canine teeth were heavily worn, I'm anxious to see how old he was. North Carolina has a program where they'll age your bear & send you a report if you give them a tooth. Don't know what the skull measures, as it was late when we got him butchered & I didn't feel like skinning out his head at midnight. I had a great time, North Carolina has some of the friendliest people and they have some giant bears! I'd highly recommend it if you get the chance!
Very nice bear anywhere.but hes not as old as you may think.look like the bear was in a trap and damaged his teeth on the cage part few years back its common.upper and lower teeth look over 10 under 20yrs likely 12-15yrs old.old old bears the upper and lowers can be compltely worn flat or gone.worn k-9s are rounded off those were broken.but awsome bear congrats.
Thanks for the input TSI, makes sense, I thought it was strange that only the top teeth were worn...I'll post the results when I get them.
