in 2011 we had 126

in 2012 we had 158

in 2013 we had 131

in 2014 we had 136

Only counting different bears, not mulitple photos of same animal. We have been counting bears taken with any weapon. Black, brown, grizzly, or polar.....they all count.

OUTFITTERS ARE WELCOME TO COME ON AND POST PHOTOS OF ALL THE BEARS KILLED IN THIER CAMPS AND WE WILL COUNT THOSE.

I just returned from a spring black bear bowhunt in Manitoba. I hunted with Dean McCullough at Muskeg Country Outfitters in Erickson, MB (about 3 hours northwest of Winnipeg). Dean runs a good camp and has some of the best bear hunting in the province. His hunting areas adjoin a large national park where there is no hunting, so he sees a steady stream of big bears. I have gotten several bears in the past, so I was specifically looking for a bigger bear that would meet the Pope and Young Club minimum standard (18 inch skull size). It is tougher hunting that way, because you have to be prepared to come home empty handed (you won’t shoot a big bear if you shoot a small one first).

I saw lots of bears- 34 all together in the 5 days of hunting. Interestingly, more than half were color-phase bears (brown, cinnamon, and blond in color). On one occasion, I saw a brown sow with a blond cub and a jet black cub- very that was pretty cool.

There were three other hunters in camp, and each got a nice bear- two were color phase and one was black. It was a successful week for the camp.

On my last day of hunting, there was a steady parade of bears all day. Bears don’t play nicely with one another (bigger bears attack, and even kill, smaller bears). So when a small bear stops eating, looks up and listens in a specific direction, and then runs off at full speed, there is a good chance a bigger bear is coming in. It went on that way all day. Near dark, one of the bears that came in was clearly bigger than the rest, and I hoped he was the bear I was looking for. As he came in, he gave me a good broadside shot at 17 yards, and piled up nearby. It wasn’t until Dean and I got to him that I understood how big the bear was. He weighed in at 380 pounds and squared at 7 feet. The taxidermist has not measured the skull yet, but I feel certain it will meet the P&Y minimum.

Great Bears everyone! Congrats!

Here's my first...May 25th, Manitoba with Bear Track Outfitters. My brother shot one as well. Out of 9 hunters, 3 filled their tags the first night with 4 others having opportunities if they wanted. Excellent service, food and from the little I know, wildly successful because of sparing no expense on baiting practices and knowledge of bear behavior.

Shot this one 5/25 in BC with my buddy Darcy. He's a bowling ball of a bear, no neck, big head, heavy SOB.

Spot and stalk, 13 yard shot, dead in 10 seconds within sight. Spun around once after the shot, ran right at me so close I could have kicked him on the butt and died after 35 yards.

If you bait hunters like hunting bears, you should try spot and stalk. You'll never sit bait again.

Took this bear in northern Alberta - #2 bear.

We called him one ear cause last year he got into it with another boar and lost that ear.

I got lucky cause I was waiting on buddy to go fishing in the morning and decided to run and check apthe bait he was hitting and he was on it. I was rifle hunting but took him at 30 yards.

He we a big bear over 300lb. He was smaller than my 2nd bear which was huge well over 7ft.

As soon as my buddy sends pics of my 1st bear I'll post.

Thanks, Weed, that's a stunning colored black bear. Glad you got him.

I've only seen one prettier, up in the Wind River Range. It was a big old boar about the color through the body, but the lower it went down the legs the darker the brown.

Kinda of reminded me a buckskin horse, but no Matt Dillon riding it, of course.

Congrats to everyone. Gotta be some great memories made this spring.

Here is the pic of bear #1. Finally got pics back from buddy.

He actually got pics of the bear several hours before I shot him that I was unaware of. This bear was big and in mint condition. His hide was amazing.

Unfortunately, we were not very smart about the post kill shots (I was the only hunter in camp as my buddies only fished). I should have been more careful but it was late and we had fished all day and I just wasn't thinking because I knew we had a late night of skinning before we got up at 4:15 am to go fishing again. Just bummed you don't really see the size of this bear with me in it. He was much bigger than my 2nd bear above and he was big as well!

My taxidermist who is a official scorer will green score him once he gets the bears. I will report back.

BTW Killed him with an old Russian rifle my guide let me use - it's a 303. Killed the bear at 10 yards which would have been a easy bow kill. I just had so much fishing stuff that I got lazy. Next year I will take my bow.

St8tman - or anyone else with relevant experience - did hanging the bear up like that rub any hair off and damage the mount/rug?

i have no experience with bears so i'm not sure how tough their hides/hair are. rare to see a pic of a hung bear though - and its a great pic!

From: st8tman
04-Jun-15
LlBuck, The outfitter had a "harness" made for the legs to attach to the hook on his tractor's forks. When he let the bear down you could not even see any evidence that it had ever been hung. In fact, thinking back on it, we did not make it back to camp until 2:00am after a helluva trek through the Canadian bush retrieving the bear. It was 29 degrees Fahrenheit, and he hung the bear up that night to prevent coyotes/varmints from reaching it. As far as I could tell not a hair missing! My son was so happy, not sure anything short of losing his bear would have made a difference anyway. My Best

The details that matter was it was taken on the last night 5 minutes before legal shooting at 11 yards, 7the bear seen that night. I was hunting with TSI and they run a great operation. The bear was dwarfed by the 400 pounder taken by a hunter that same evening, but I was pleased and will return again next year.

This picture exaggerates the size of the bear somewhat but all the pictures from my camera were overexposed because of an adjustment that was awry.

This one was a picture taken with my wife's camera that was adjusted properly.

Freelance Outdoor Adventures. Awesome outfitter. I considered it a grizzly paradise seeing around 25 bears. My awesome guide spotted this boar nearly 6 hours earlier on a distant mountain. It worked our way and we bailed off the vantage point in order to intercept. A sow was trailing it and both bears covered ground quickly. We made it to 150 yards and the bears turned away from us. Predator calling was to no avail. The boar made his way to another sow in some tall pine and emerged with the new sow running full tilt away from him. The original sow continued to follow him. The boar continued at his pace after the sow he was trailing. The bears went out of sight but we headed their way. Nearly three hours later, my guides relocated them. The boar broke off the sow he was trailing and was taking a different course. He was cutting through the lower edge of the alder positioned above his hump(from left to right) in the picture. We came from above and I was positioned on the other side of the alder looking brush(just above my right shoulder). He came by at a fast pace. I had ranged a bush at 35 yards. He must have been closer as the shot was high and he must have been walking faster than I thought as the shot was back also. It took out the lungs however. He was dead in 15 seconds. Great outfitter, great guides and great equipment.!

Can’t top Ned’s beautiful bear but was fortunate enough to take this one in the same area about a week later with Freelance. My guide and good friend, Mark Gutsmiedl, spotted a boar and sow in the morning. After hiking down, the fog and rain set in and we were unable to locate. We looked for 12 hours before heading back to camp around midnight. On the way back, Mark spotted a boar meandering around on the tundra. The wind was perfect and the chase that would cover 1-½ miles was on. We closed the distance to about 200 yards but couldn’t do any better until the boar reached a large alder thicket and lay down out of the wind. Had he not stopped there, it would have been game over. He was facing directly towards us but had his head down and apparently unaware of our presence. I walked up to 42 yards, drew my bow and started easing around to improve the angle. As I did, he saw me and raised his head and gave me a frontal shot. The arrow entered his chest between the front shoulders and exited his right hip. He ran about 50 yards into the alders where he died. As Ned said, top-notch outfitter and guides.

Here is a fall bear from Colorado. Spotted him feeding down a trail while elk hunting. I set up just off the trail, and when he came by the clearing in the brush a cow call got him up on his hind legs. A shot through the sternum and spine (about 1" from the spinal cord) caught an edge of the lung and the arteries above the heart. 80 yard death sprint and he piled up.

Normally carry the bear tag as repellent, but it didn't work this year. Picture doesnt give the color phase of this bear credit!

Was lucky enough to finally draw a tag in Northern Wisconsin this year. I started baiting in late July and it was getting wiped out every day with lots of bear on the camera every day. Things really started to die down at my bait this week and the good bear I had been hoping for and had been on camera every day hadn't showed in a week so I decided now was the time to concentrate on taking one of the other bear I had been seeing which wasn't gonna be real easy because they pretty much quit coming in and when they were it was at night. I was pretty nervous because I've passed up a lot of bear this year and now all of a sudden they seemed to disappear and I'm down to just over a week to go.

I got in Saturday and was disappointed to see that the bait had not been touched. I'd gone from seeing 18 bear in a day to really thinking I may not see another one this season. I was set by 3:00, the wind was supposed to be good for this stand but it was swirling all over, not much I could do about that. About 5:15 I saw one working his way in so I got ready. He came out and he looked pretty decent but he seemed a little apprehensive about coming in. Eventually he did and when he grabbed some food and turned away I drew but something wasn't right. Earlier I had put on gloves after I put my release on and now the glove was getting in the way of me reaching my release trigger comfortably. Not much I can do at this point so I started to bend to get my pin on the bear then all of a sudden thwack!!! My bow released and the arrow stuck into a tree about 14 feet high right behind the bear. He wasn't too affected by it and went back to eating. I tried to grab another arrow which wasn't real easy because I had my quiver stashed into an evergreen tree next to me. I finally got one out and knocked, adjusted my glove a little and waited for him to put his head down and drew again. This time I made sure I kept my hand and fingers away from the trigger but it still didn't feel right, my peep and kisser weren't really lining up but I was able to get my pin on my target and a good hold so I released and the arrow went over his back!! This is at 13 yards!! Again the bear wasn't alarmed, he checked out the arrow and sniffed it a couple times and went back to eating. This time I slowly was able to work my glove off and get another arrow knocked. Again as soon he turned away I drew and with my glove now off I felt real comfortable. When he came back in and was broadside I held behind the shoulder a little and released, the arrow hit right where I was aiming and he took off. I could see blood coming out as soon as the arrow hit and knew he was hit real good. He made it about 20 yards, piled up, gave 1 moan and that was it. I've taken many animals over the years all over the country and I have to say even though this isn't my biggest bear (actually my smallest at about 150# or 160# dressed) it was probably my most exciting and enjoyable hunt. What a blast. Cant wait to do it again......in 10 more years. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone.

I shot him in North Carolina at a friends place. They have two seasons in the fall, one in mid November and one in mid December. My hunt was scheduled for December 14th through the 19th, I shot him on the 15th. I was hunting an old logging road that ran through a swamp & headed out toward a bunch of large Ag fields. He was the first bear that showed up on day two. He came by at last light and gave me a broadside shot at eight yards. Shot him with an Ulmer Edge & got a complete pass through, he only made it 30 yards before he crashed. He was an old bear and not particularly fat, his upper canine teeth were heavily worn, I'm anxious to see how old he was. North Carolina has a program where they'll age your bear & send you a report if you give them a tooth. Don't know what the skull measures, as it was late when we got him butchered & I didn't feel like skinning out his head at midnight. I had a great time, North Carolina has some of the friendliest people and they have some giant bears! I'd highly recommend it if you get the chance!

Very nice bear anywhere.but hes not as old as you may think.look like the bear was in a trap and damaged his teeth on the cage part few years back its common.upper and lower teeth look over 10 under 20yrs likely 12-15yrs old.old old bears the upper and lowers can be compltely worn flat or gone.worn k-9s are rounded off those were broken.but awsome bear congrats.

Thanks for the input TSI, makes sense, I thought it was strange that only the top teeth were worn...I'll post the results when I get them.
