It's Porkapalooza 9 time down at Shiloh Ranch in Stonewall, Oklahoma.
We have 10 hunters in camp and with some luck and decent shooting, we should be putting some pork on the ground.
Boothill and Hunt4life are on the hunt as well as 3 newbies, a father and son team and a few other miscreants.
Things start at noon (CST) with orientation and then the drawing of stands. Newbies get first choice.
Temps are supposed to be upper 80's to low 90's with no rain and south winds.
Pretty pumped about the hunt and if the coverage is good at the stands, we will update live.
Time to hang the banner!

Good luck guys. I have no idea on any of the stands. They all sound good.
It seems summer temps have hit Stonewall, OK. Oh why did I choose stand 4? Oh well just about to head out for the first evening hunt to start.

Jumped 5 hogs of average size on the walk in. Very warm with a swirling breeze. I'm starting off in the ladder but might have to move to the groundblind if the wind won't straighten out.
5:36 PM LIVE from Ok*
3 black hogs in the 90 pound range tried to come in and winded me. Could be a tough night.
I have a big group to my west with some good ones in it!!
5:40 PM LIVE from Ok*
Hogs moving east of my stand. Can't see them only hear them fighting.
We saw a good one on way in, 40 yrds back in the brush of coarse with no shot.
Won't be long now and will see some hosed down hogs hanging

All quiet. Nobody is seeing hogs yet. Must be waiting for sunset.

Dang whitetail snorted and spooked the hogs. Wind got me.
8:36 PM LIVE from Ok*
Heard hogs to the East but not coming in.
No shots or kills by anybody so far. Most unusual.
C'mon hogs, get with the program!
Wrong...2 hogs shot. Matt and Donald are tracking. Got their text. :)

Slow morning. Heading in for the morning. Will hit it again tonight.
Sorry for taking so long to post last night's pics. I think I was more wore out than Kai was and fell sound asleep on the couch after eating dinner!
Here's Brian (boothill) with the big boar of the night.
Matt (gideon87) shot this nice, curly black sow.
And here's Jacob with a nice fat, black sow he shot. Congratulations on procuring some tasty pork on your first evening out guys! We're looking forward to seeing some more pork on the meatpole this evening!

8:51 PM LIVE from Ok*
Long hog. Big shoulders. Looks like breakfast sausage to me;)
8:53 PM LIVE from Ok*
Oops, that is Hunt4life's hog. Sorry Mike, I guess I'm going to have to take the cheater glasses with me or get an Iphone 6 so I can see what I'm typing.
Here are a few pictures we took today. The first is of Mike (INbowdude) with his big boar.
And here's Mike (Hunt4life) with his big red boar. Congratulations guys!
Now I didn't want to show you all this until after Porkapalooza, but this potential trespasser was killed in the road just before crossing onto the ranch right up by camp. I'm glad he didn't crash out party! In case you can't tell by the pic, it was about a four foot velvet tail. The buzzards were already working him over pretty good when I took this pic.
And as some of you know, we don't go hungry during Porkapalooza. Here we are sitting down to a lunch of fire-grilled ribeyes, baked potatoes, strawberry spinach salad, home made macaroni and cheese, vegetables in vinaigrette salad, home made cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies, and southern banana pudding. Phew! You guys sure do know how to throw down!
I took a whole bunch of pictures of the official Porkapalooza ceremony during lunch and just now realized that I was using Mike's camera the whole time! Guess we'll have to post those later. I think Mike's up to his elbows in chitlins right now...lol.
I hope y'all are having as much as we are!
6:28 AM LIVE from Ok*
I gotta be honest. After skinning and quartering out that boar, I decided to have a beer and brat for supper and slept in.
It's raining steady here this morning. Forecast called for a good chance of rain this evening so maybe the front will pass early and tonight we kill more hogs.
I can see that the firefighters from Colorado went out this morning. Both guys are hard hunters and this is their first hog hunt. Good guys I need to turn them on to Bowsite.
I will update after I talk to them.
Front of this year's t-shirt.
I usually do not smile much this early in the morning but after following along on this hunt, I did crack a big one this AM.
My best, Paul
You're gonna make me do another trip to Shiloh.
Matt, Cheryl, make sure nobody hands me a knife. The nurses were very nice at the ER in Ada, but I'd as soon spend my time out at the ranch. :-)
Sounds like a great hunt so far..what's the total tally?
Good luck tonite

Rain delay for the broadcast.

Lovely downpour! Lots of thunder.
Happy to be in ground blind.
Big pig headed in but I am looking for 50 pounder.
6:14 PM LIVE from Ok*
7:04 PM LIVE from Ok*
Rain is over, sun shining, now we need to get a breeze to dry the woods out.
8:21 PM LIVE from Ok*
9 hogs of various sizes came from the south and then moved behind me. Dang wind saved another hog's life. Need a break.
9:32 PM LIVE from Ok*
Pig down! Details to follow.
Dude!!!!
Step, away, from, the, beer.
Drop that brat,
..and give us the promised details!
11:21 PM LIVE from Ok*
Sorry for the delay.
The 9 hogs circled behind and south but would not commit.
About the time they drifted off, I could see some more northeast of the stand. These hogs started to come in but also hung up. The wind finally became steady out of the SE and was now in my favor.
After a few minutes, 4 small and 1 medium hog nervously started in.
A couple of minutes later 2 more mediums came in and it became a race between the hogs for the corn.
Twice I drew and let down. Just couldn't get a broadside shot. Finally everything lines up and I dumped the string.
11:24 PM LIVE from Ok*
Impact site! Not looking good for the hog.

Great new friends and awesome old ones.
And of course, Matt & Cheryl are simply the best.
Cheers!
Another Stevie Wonder tracking job. Good shooting.
Thanks for bringing us another adventure Mike you headed back down in a couple weeks
Thanks for the story Mike. Glad you folks had a good time. Perhaps we can share a hunt again sometime.
Thanks for the story Mike. Glad you folks had a good time. Perhaps we can share a hunt again sometime.
We have one last picture to share, and that is of Mike's second hog right before it got "dressed to the nines".
Congratulations again guys. We sure do enjoy hosting this hunt and appreciate every one of you for coming down to be a part of it. The food and fellowship (not in that order) are the best part of this hunt in my opinion. Thanks again for letting us be a part of the festivities!
-Matt and Cheryl
Another Porkapalooza is in the books at Shiloh Ranch. Many thanks to INbowdude for hosting this event again. I've been going since Pork 5 and they just get better. Thanks to Matt and Cheryl for the hospitality and being great friends over the years. See you in February!
Checking out the Porkapalooza ornament.
Custom made Porkapalooza ornament. Compliments of Fleece Performance Engineering. The owners are former students of mine and they have a great business.
(l-R) Jacob, Eric and David. Thanks for sharing camp and hunting hogs.
After the hunting, more work before bed.
Hey Brian, have a Snickers!
And I thought you were my friend all this time Mike? OK I guess it is on come February buddy.
I guess I should have left it for you then.
Mike, Looks like you had a great time. thanks for sharing.
So this year I decided to process my own hog(s) from the Porkapalooza. Usually the high temperatures dictate we get the hogs in a cooler asap. Nevertheless, I was fortunate to take a nice mature boar and a smaller sow. I gutted, skinned and quartered the hogs at Shiloh Ranch and then brought them home where I de-boned the meat.
I came away with 37.5 pounds of pure meat plus 7 pounds of ribs. I froze these into 2 large vacuum sealer bags for future processing into breakfast sausage.
After they defrosted a bit, it was on to the final trimming and the beginning of the grinding process.
Taking a tip from Matt Napper, after I mixed up a bit of the sausage, I fried up a burger to check the taste.
Hmmm, hot fresh spicy breakfast sausage!
Once confirmed that the taste was what I wanted, it was time to kick it in to high production.
I was glad we had a cold front push through and the temperatures were in the low 70's when I started the process.
Half way done! I didn't take a picture of the final table as I was getting tired and still had a lot of clean up to do.
Looking forward to cooking breakfast sausage and later this summer, some wild boar ribs!
Cheers.
