Huge BC Grizzly - Congrats Allen!
Bears

Just got off the phone with my good buddy Allen Bolen. He and I have been so busy the last few weeks with travel and work that we had not been able to talk on the phone. I finally got the full recap of his grizzly hunt last month in BC. Allen, Dave, and Spike purchased a new area last season and were not able to book a grizzly hunter for this spring. After hearing his story, I wish I had gone because their new area is loaded with BIG mountain grizzlies. After a week of hunting, Allen and his guide and partner, Spike, were able to get between this huge boar grizzly and a hot sow (not were I would want to be :) ). Allen was able to get an arrow into this beast at 9 yards. Definitely a hunt of several lifetimes.
Congratulations again, Allen. I am so happy for you buddy.
Very nice...Congrats Allen.
I forgot to mention, for those of you who like score, this bear green scores 25 14/16". Should be top 5 in the world after the 60 day drying period.
Those guys really know how to get it done
Great grizzly and congratulations! Where is the new area at in BC?
Kurt
Wow! Congrats to Allen and all involved!
Mark
Kurt- I think it is near Chetwynd.

Yep, I'm jealous. Congratulations on an outstanding trophy!
What a rush that would be!
I get a little uneasy when my local black bears get over 500lbs as they tend to do... That's a real pants crapper right there! Congrats to the hunter... That sure takes a pair to be among those creatures..
Incredible achievement, congratulations!
Very nice bear-super trophy. Sounds like a really exciting adventure.
Very impressive!!! What a giant! Congrats
Congratulations Allen! what a Monster.
I bet that was one exciting hunt with just a little pucker factor :)
I am going Moose hunting in their new area next year and it is near Chetwynd.
John
Thanks Lenny. Thanks Guys.
It really is hard to articulate what it was like having this big griz charge from 70 yards to 6 feet in a matter of seconds. I was forced to take a frontal shot at 9 yards. It got to the point where it was either an arrow or a bullet... he was coming. My grim reaper took off the top of his heart and he continued the charge and passed by us at 6 feet.
When things are going down, you don't have time to be scared. But afterwards, it really sinks in how life-threatening this situation was.
When you prepare for a hunt like this you always imagine taking a calm shot from 30 yards at an animal that's feeding and unaware. If someone told me before the hunt that in order to shoot a grizzly like this I'd have to do it with a frontal shot from 9 yards, I might have just stayed home. The risk is just too high.
But what an experience! An absolute thrill of a lifetime. Spike said that it was his #1 most incredible experience in 22 years of guiding. That's saying something.
And we got the whole thing on GoPro.
That's a Beauty Allen!! Congrats
how can we view that go pro video
Great stuff. Congratulations!
Can't wait to see the video! Congrats!
Congrats Allen!!! I am jealous! It looks like that famous mountain man Brian was with you as well. Congrats to all. What a bear!
Wow, what an animal. Congrats!
Holy smokes! Was the bear stationary at the time of the shot or still coming? Great shooting either way.
Wow, great story and awesome bear - congrats! What do we have to do to see that video....I would pay to see it!
Congratulations !!! What a beautiful bear!!! It will be nice to nice the video from the Go pro.
Makes mine look like a dink
WOW!!! What a bear and what an experience!!! CONGRATS!
Hope we can watch it soon!!! Would love to see it!
What a great bear - congratulations on what must have been one heck of an exciting hunt! Personally, I would've needed a change of underwear after that experience.
Congratulations!!!
WOW... that's a BIG f'ing bear!
Whoa...what a beauty!! Congratulations on the hunt of a lifetime.
Will we be able to see the footage?
Allen, I arrowed a boar in BC last year at 13 yards that was with a sow. He was digging away broadside. When the arrow hit he spun a 360 and in 3 bounds ran past us at 5'. Too fast and too exciting! We then had to run the sow off that was 15 yards away wondering what had just happened. There isn't much in the world of hunting that matches those experiences. I had adrenalin in my system for what felt like 48 hours. My guide said that in over 20 years of grizzly hunting it was the most exciting thing ever! His wife said we were like a couple of school kids when we got back that night.......totally charged up!
Anyway, congrats again on the grizzly adventure of a lifetime along with the boar of a lifetime! I know how you felt, and my hunt didn't start with a charging bear, even if it ended the same. Kurt
Holy crap. That bear paw makes you look like you're 3 feet tall.
What an incredible hunt.
Congrats, that is one helluva beast ! I can't imagine being charged by something like that. You did good !
Awesome Allen! CONGRATS!!
Outstanding animal, congrats.
Amazing story & bear. Congrats!
62 posts in we can all stipulate it is a monster. now for that video please?????????????????
Wow! Great mountain griz at close range! An epic accomplishment! Congrats!
Awesome bear Allen congrats!
great job Allen! keeping calm is the key, it amazes me how the adrenaline sets in after the fact.
big sticker price 30,000 yikes
$30,000 ridiculous dollars. I've made the point before....it's just not right. But, if the market bears it (no pun intended) I don't blame them. I suppose I would do the same thing. That said, its one great bear and a HUGE congratulations!
Now, that's a bear/ Congrats to the hunter. God Bless
5 years from now people will be lamenting that they wish they would have gone when the hunt was only 30K.
10 years from now people will be saying can you believe there was a time when you only had to pay 30K?
You can still get a good grizzly hunt for half that but that really has no relevance here. That's more than a very good nwt combo sheep hunt to put it into perspective.
That is one beauty bear for sure!!! And the final seconds of the hunt must be absolutely indescribable!!! Can't wait to see the Go-Pro footage.
And forget talking about the price of the hunt. I want to know if it really was the much maligned frontal shot COMBINED with a despicable, unreliable, mechanical broad head that brought this brute to the ground!
Unreal----
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Beasts! Both the bear and the hunters. Congrats!
nice bear , congrats that guy has some stones,,,,,,
oh by the way, could not put down much with a mechanical....... well I guess he proved you wrong,,,,,
again, great hunt
Great Trophy and Congrats.
