It's interesting that they say there were 2 species of elk that went extinct - Merriam's and Eastern. They were called out as separate species because of their location, different antler configuration and color. These re-introduced Rocky Mountain elk in the east do look different and are definitely growing some incredible antlers! Same for the elk in NM and AZ. Maybe it has more to do with the feed and letting them get some age.
Awesome elk over there in the East and glad they are back!
Just don't let the wolf lovers loose over there!
