Will he make non typical P&Y
Whitetail Deer

Do you think this guy is big enough to make p&y minimum for non tupical class
You still ought to shoot him. He is mocking you.
Nope. Has to be 155" with 15" of scorable non-typical growth.
I agree with Ken as I don't see the 15 inches of abnormal points!
Beautiful buck! He may net as a typical but it will be close.
very nice for him to pose, he would not get a pass from me. lots of mass there for sure though
Nope he is still alive and the last time I checked they had to be dead ha ha
Nope. As stated above.
I don't know if he will gross typical either by the time the deductions for the abnormality he does have.
Now, here is the important part. Who cares!!!!!! He's an awesome deer. A great trophy I'd love to kill. Really cool, gnarly rack. God Bless
I think ..... several years ago P&Y CHANGED the Non-Typ point to be "" 1" ...or more "" (at least 1" of non-typ point!) to make it illegible for the non-typ category .....BUT, the score Typical has to meet a minimum required to do so ....I do not remember what that minimum is .... (I forget) ..(maybe a minimum score of 155 ?? )....P&Y did away with the "at least 15" non-typ requirement" ....
I don't think this deer would make 155 P&Y Typical for 'that' to happen!
That is a very cool buck, I wouldn't much care what he'd score, he'd just go on the wall! Thanks for sharing!
Herm: This is from the P&Y Website.
The OP cares because he asked:)
X's 2 WV Mountaineer. Who cares! He's an awesome trophy. Choot 'im!
The "1 inch" rule to which HeadHunter refers has been replaced two times since that was the rule. As Ken and Charlie referenced, the current rule for an antlered animal to qualify as a NT is that the inches of abnormal points must exceed 1/2 the difference between the Typ and NT minimums. In the case of whitetail, there is 30 inches difference between the two minimums. Half of that is 15. The number of inches required for each species to be a NT is represented in parenthesis in the table shown above.
This change occured about 4 years ago, or so, and I believe you can thank/blame me for this rule change since I'm the one that originally developed and presented it to PY for consideration at that time. The change was made along with minimums changes for some species like Coues and American elk, and perhaps others.
With the character that he has, he is a shooter all day every day for me.
Can someone explain the reasoning behind using half the difference as the minimum requirement? So lets say you have a 125" net typical buck that makes the record book. Next to it you have a buck with a 125" typical frame, but it has 25" of non-typical points, this won't qualify for either one. To me, 25" of non-typical points is a lot and the buck should be awarded as such. So why wouldn't the minimum requirement be the minimum for entry? To me, you are giving credit to bucks with more typical characteristics because a buck with a 140" typical frame and only 15" of non-typical points cam make the non-typical minimum requirement.
Also, the difference for B&C is only 25", so why is the difference 5" more for P&Y?
Under the new rule than no, but he is very nice and easily qualify as a typical. Nice and heavy buck! Shawn
Just shoot him he's a great buck!
Knife2sharp- I don't think there will ever be an explanation for the symmetry and non-typical deductions under the P&Y and B&C scoring systems. The only answer is "That's the way it is"
It's why so many default to the unofficial "Gross" score. Also there are other scoring systems like SCI that does not have deductions. No matter the system used it is nice to be able to compare animals and have a benchmark for mature and trophy class.
Great deer.
I don't really care about P&Y measurement any more.
Go get him.
