I just returned from a trip to Southern WA where I hunted blacktails with my little brother. This trip is special to me because it would be our first hunt together in 5 years. My brother graduated college and moved north where he got his dream job and started his career up there. He took his wife and baby and now he is doing great. They have 2 beautiful kids and he is well on his way to making a great life for his family. Fast forward to the hunt. WA only has a 4 day general season during November and these would be the days I took off work for the trip. North I go...

My brother would give me trail cam updates on a weekly basis. Being new up there and not really having a whole lot of knowledge of the area or time I knew I would be gambling on success odds but I really wanted to hunt with my little bro. Here are a few pix of bucks he was getting....

I arrived Tuesday eve and the hunt started Thursday the 19th. Wednesday we checked 4 areas with cameras up and devised a gameplan on where we thought we would have best odds of waiting on a rutting buck. Gameplan set, blind up and let the games begin

This rub was bout 5 yards from the cam. Now to find the guy who made it....

I hung a doe in heat scent wick up on one of the branches hoping that would lure a curios buck through our setup. Right off the bat we had does move into our setup. It was drizzling rain all morning long making us thankful for the blind keeping us dry... Not much longer a little spike made an appearance.. Deer activity was decent. We had spent a total of 9 hours in the blind on day 1...

This little guy made a visit around noon. Cool to watch them undisturbed in their natural habits

At approx 1430 my brother and I picked up movement to our left. It was the fork we wanted and he was trotting into our setup nose down on a mission. I got my bow together as fast as I could and the buck never even slowed down past my shooting lane. I drew and tried to stop him but just my luck he stops behind a tree. No shot. I wait for him to keep moving and I grunt again. This time he stops at 23 yards. It wasn't ideal but I knew I could get an arrow into him but he was not where I intend or setup to take my shot. I let her fly and watch my arrow sink perfectly into his heart breaking the opposite shoulder bone. But takes off and looks hurt bad. 20 yards later he is out of view and we celebrate. It happened so fast we couldn't even get the video camera on. The trail camera caught him passing thru, notice the scent wick up in the left corner. Still think that's what brought him in on a trot as he was lookin for what he smelled...

We got a few good pix where he lay. I've always wanted a pic in the deep jungle with ferns and a dead wet looking blacktail. Mission accomplished :)

The vpa 3 blade 100 ended up busting the opposite shoulder bone clean in half an poked out the other side. I was pretty impressed. Never found the bh side of the arrow tho to see how the bh looked. I was kind of bummed

This is the second trail cam pic buck. We ended up seeing him the day we went back to grab the blind from the road and I was able to zoom in an get a a quick pic of him. He was about 7-800 yards from where the camera was. Cool to see them like that

I almost forgot. I was a little confused as this is a "brown" tail :-) inside jokes of course

Anyways, all jokes aside I got some great pix with him but I really wanted a family picture as that was the true purpose of the trip. I am very proud of my little brother as he put himself thru college, had a baby an wife he supported the whole time and now is doing well and owns a beautiful piece of property up in WA. Such a great memory for the scrap book and one I will not soon forget. Thanks for coming along I hope you enjoyed the read. Good hunting

I liked that a lot. That buck is much better for Thanksgiving than an old tom turkey anyway.
