Who's hunting coues deer? Let's see some success pics of the 2016 season! Good luck
Just to get started. Here is one from a few years ago, a DIY hunt in southern AZ. Wish I was going in 16 but maybe the following year.
Fly out in 10 days...Mexico with Ward's
Panhandle, are you archery hunting in Mex with Ward?
Yes, hunt starts on the 11th
Goodluck...They take some Pigs down there!!
I did well... Rifle hunt in New Mexico.
I'm pretty sure I'm on the same hunt with you Panhandle Bob.
I'll contribute. My 2015 coues. Leaving next Thursday hoping to do a little better. Gotta tell myself...patience
Nothing wrong with that one Joe! Good luck on this year's hunt!
JTreeman and I are heading to NM in less than 10 days. I'm really excited about this hunt.
Here is a Mexican coues buck I miss two years ago, maybe he is still around.
I took a 3 year old forkie still hunting with my longbow on Dec. 26th. It wasn't big but those of you who really know Coues' whitetail know it isn't easy to get withing traditional bow range. This is my 4th with a longbow with the biggest being about 80+ points.
Any Coues deer with a bow is a trophy!
I watched a couple bucks chasing does over the weekend while I was there hunting javelina.
tell us about that hunt/miss Paul - that's gotta haunt you !! I'm not a Coues deer hunter but I know a big one when I see one
Yea, I still think about the shot/miss. My release hung up and I pulled the shot at 25 yards. A half hour later he shows up 70 yards away with a doe. THe next day I killed a good one but not as GOOD as that one. I figure his gross score would be near 115 py. You can go back in the Bowsite archives, " Coues North and South, and see the whole story of AZ and Mexico hunts.
Good luck for those going this year. Fun deer to hunt and hope to hunt AZ next year.
My best, Paul
I love hunting Coues deer! I just arrowed a nice 4x4 a week ago (Dec 29) on my 2015 tag. I'm saving my 2016 tag for next December, unless the winter in BC is so bad I go back in a couple of weeks!
Paul....that is a sick buck.I can imagine the wince in your gut every time you replay it....
I got word Blacktail Bob and Lisa got a few hanging as well.
I was down near Sasabe the 1st-4th, only spotted one buck over a fork. A buddy sent me this pick when I got back...rubbing it in. This was a friend of his, shot on the 5th...rifle.
Wow, that last one is a great buck. I dont have photos with me here at the Oracle library today, but I'll try to figure out how to post them.
Lisa killed a nice buck that will score around 77 I think. Before she shot that one she had missed what she said was the largest buck she had ever seen. She saw the same buck after killing the one she did and told me where and which tree to set up in to kill it.
That happened to be in the same place Roy told me to put a stand last Januray. He's still helping me.
At 3:00 pm the last day of 2015 I killed one that will score just under Boone & Crooket. Great buck I owe both Lisa and Roy for.
Congrats Bob and Lisa. Can't wait to see the photos. I bet Roy is smiling ! Hunt
Central Arizona January 9th, 2016.
Spot and stalk.
I have a couple weeks off that I need to burn before the end of March. I've been studying up on the OTC AZ Coues tag.. I'm thinking doing a DIY South of Tucson. I may just book a trip and jump in and go it solo. I've been studying a couple of areas and figure you never know until you go.. this thread has gotten me near convinced.
Some great bucks on this thread.
Here is my buck, not a 2016 buck but he is from this season, took him in August with Wards Outfitters.
Come on Bob, get a pic of that buck on here! lol
Got this one last January have a few I am watching now hoping to get another super two.
Some nice bucks guys congrats!
Well my hunts done. Got a shot at a monster 100" buck and a shot at a 80" buck on my trip. Both bucks dodged my arrows! Darn coues deer!!
Good luck to those who still are gonna hunt.
Prob hardest hunt I've ever been on for deer. But I managed to punch my tag. Good luck everyone
Nothing wrong with that buck! Paul
Congrats Joe! What a cool hunt in the snow.
This Buck was taken with Ward's Outfitters. Mark is a champ permit holder and has a cross bow permit as does his guild...ME. We are both retired and lots of time to hunt these little devils. We drove up on a hot doe and three bucks going crazy chasing each other off. They kept running by us. Finally this one stopped at 50 yards for just an instant...
Good looking deer folks, thanks for sharing... Curious how far north in the state of AZ do Coues range... Thanks
ZBone I've seen Coues as far north as Sycamore Canyon between Units 6B and 8 southwest of Flagstaff.
Zbone, Flagstaff AZ seems to be "how far north"?
Google, "range of Coues deer in AZ?
Good maps, etc, of the Coues deer range.
Paul
Joe are you going to write up a story? How about you Justin? Would love to hear about your hunts.
Well this year my goal was to shoot a coues and a javelina in the same day. I was watching a bigger buck and got a stalk on him on January 1st he was bedded down and I got to 40 yards from him and had a 6" opening through a palo verde tree and shot at him while he was still bedded and missed by 2" the broad head had hair on it but no blood. It had hit right in front of him 2" higher and it would have been through his heart. Spent almost every other day out looking to see if i could spot him again but have not seen since. This past Sunday we were out and as we were packing up saw a buck across the canyon 110 yards away and also saw javelina lower in the canyon and thought here it is my opportunity to get a 2 for. Well I shot the buck and shot a javelina 10 min apart.
Congrats Coueskiller. Gorgeous picture as well
Dang coues killer- that's quite the accomplishment!! Congrats
Heat. I might. Waiting on my homie to finish his hunt :-)
Nice bucks.
I was extra lucky and filled my 2016 tag a few days ago.
Congratulations Coueskiller! I did the same thing with a mule deer buck and a javelina a number of years ago, within about 15 minutes of each other. I also killed them with the same arrow (two shots with the same arrow...), without realizing it at the time.
If any of you that have taken bucks in Arizona wish to enter them to the Arizona bowhunting records program, "Bowhunting in Arizona", get in touch with me. The program will take a photocopy of a P&Y score sheet along with the application, if you are out of state.
Will, you met your goal for sure. Very nice.
I will be heading down Jan 2017 for sure again.
my best, Paul
Don't tease us Bob. Where's the picture!?
Nick go to the 2015 pics it is there.
Lets see him Bob.
2 bucks back to back, in your case that's not so much luck as much as it is skill.
Congrats coueskiller, awesome accomplishment!
Lots of luck, not so much skill, maybe some persistence. Not near as big as the 2015 buck but I couldn't pass him at 18 yards.
Congrats on your success and your willingness to share with the Bowsite. Nothing wrong with that one!
This was my third Coues hunt and the first time I had even drew my bow on one, 55 yrd shot which did require a finishing shot. I would have been grateful for a buck of half this caliber, any of you guys that take these deer regularly with a bow you have my respect.
Sam, Great buck....really wide for a Coues deer. Congratulations! Bet he will go around 90" but just guessing.
Sam - really pretty face on that buck!! Great buck
Ermine, I picked ticks off the cape for 19 hours just to get it back across the border, I agree its a great looking buck, I would have cried if it had gotten confiscated.
After several trips for couse deer , I was finally able to connect on this buck. I shot him on Jan. 23 in Sonora,Mexico
CONGRATS GREG- I WISH I WAS THERE WITH YOU. GOOD LUCK
Here is a pic of my hunting buddies Coues he took. And some pics of some other bucks seen this January.
Here are some of the January bucks seen this year.
Chris? Chriiiisssss?
Come on, don't be shy.
L.E.....with a recurve? Really? Gotta be a story with that, awesome man!

My 2016 Az coues, 104" ... See thread
They don't get much better than that, congrats!
Just had my December 2015 Coues buck scored and he made the minimum at 110 & 6/8. I thought he'd be about an inch short of it.
Bob, it sure help when the antlers are perfect and with mass.
Very nice. Now I know I am going back down in 2017.
my best, Paul
Congratulations Bob. They don't get much prettier than that!
Congratulations Bob....pretty animal
That's an amazing Coues' deer Bob, a buck of a lifetime.
Thanks. I love the symmetry and mass of this buck.
That's great! Congrats Bob!
Bob that is a great deer. You really know how to get it done.
I had some help on this hunt from two loved ones. I wrote a story about it and Curt Wells said he'll publish it. Hope everyone looks for it.
Some nice looking deer!!!! Man i wish it was fall!!
Anyone gets a chance Bobs story in Bowhunter is a great read. Mike
