In Arizona, Coues deer carry velvet until well past the end of the late summer archery seasons. So a buck taken at this time of year will always be in velvet.

for what it's worth, I hunted with Steven last August and had a great time,,,,didn't get one but such is hunting,,,,if I hadn't drawn a LE elk license for September this year I'd be headed to Arizona again!!

I'll add that the coues deer I killed with Steven last August was the best tasting game meat I've ever eaten. My wife keeps asking me when I'm going back to get another one.
