Looking seriously at the VPA 150g 3 blade head.

I really like the blade angle on this head, and I also like the idea of just a beefier solid head. I've been shooting G5 strikers. I'm not pleased with their durability at all. They've never failed on me but I'd like to get more than one use out of them.

Specs of what its going on.

29.25 GT Hunter XT .340 Bow is a Hoyt Defiant 28" draw @ 62 lb

Will this jump be ok on spine? All the charts I am seeing are for 85-125g heads. Seems like I should be fine, but hate to buy a bunch of heads if its too much.

Any feedback for our against is much appreciated.

At 62# maybe. At nearly 30" likely. Try shooting a field tip first and see what happens.

Agreed, some field points and paper tune then see how they look down range. Path of least pain.

They will be fine, no doubt. Shawn

One thing about VPA is I bet you could resale them pretty easy at a small loss. 45$ is a tank of gas, give it a try.

Don't know about your spine, but VPA is the best built broadhead I have ever shot, 13 animals with one head before loosing , 7 with another and in the quiver waiting on the 8th. Forrest

I would recommend you contacting GT tech dept. and getting their input. I know that Easton can provide you with the info you are seeking- they've got all the info on computer and can share with you.

I recommend you try 150 grain field points, one with fletching, one with just 4" of electricians tape where the vanes should be, then tune. Get them hitting the same spot at 30, straight in the target, then you know the VPA will likely hit the same spot and it would be worth the investment at that point.

I can tell you for a fact that 300's would work, since I use the same BH, but that's not what your interested in.

Thanks for the info all. I'm going to make a phone call for tech advice and get a few 150g fp and test. Might have to order those too. f&s didn't have any tonight. Stopping by a local shop tomorrow and will see.

I'm not opposed to going to 300s if it happens just have a bunch of 340s.

You might only be able to find 145gr field points. Unless your shop does alot of trad business, you will probably need to order them.

I have a 28" draw and shoot the 150 VPAs at 67#s on a 350 28.25" arrow. Can you cut your arrows shorter? I think that that would solve your problem.

I too shoot a 28" with 150 up front at 72# with no issues. A shorter arrow, if possible, may help.

I am shooting a Hoyt Cybertec #61 @ 28. Arrows are right at 29". Gold Tip Hunter Pro 340 with 150 2 blade VPA. I have been shooting them at 60 yards and flying great.

You'l be fine. Iv been shooting the 150gr VPAs for years. Best all round head on the market, no doubt. Very very durable!

Grabbed a few 145s today. Figure they were close enough for today's test. Seemed good. Shot out to 50 today. Solid groups. If anything slightly left at 30-50 yds. 1-1.5" That's probably better than I am with the buck shakes. That said I've got a few bare shafts I'm thinking about cutting an inch shorter to try. I do think the 340s will be just fine in the end.

Next step is to order a few 150 vpa heads and give it a try.

Thanks a lot for the advice so far.

Picked up six 150s and have been testing. So far I'm thrilled. Tuning has been spot on with the FP out to 40 yds. I haven't done any real distance tuning as my glendel buck is on its last leg. I've been forced to shoot at some dots I put outside the vitals.

Anyway I'm impressed with the flight as well as the silence. I honestly think they may be even quieter than my FP

As far as my original question on spine I believe I am slightly light. Arrows are hitting slightly left of the 100s I used to be using. I may cut some off the shafts but I may not. I'm shooting well and they are grouping well.

Next step will be to get at some live game.

If you decide to cut, I would go 1/4" at a time, carbons stiffen up quick with just a little bit.
