Elk Stories and Advice
I bumped some older stories up to the top for a new hunter to check out and then thought it might be nice to put links in one place.
I can't seem to remember the titles of a lot of the great stories from the past. So I'm not being successful with my searches. If anyone can remember the titles of stories that they enjoyed, please drop a link into this thread. Also, any really helpful threads like the BigDan interview.
He'll enjoy them and others probably will too. And it'd be nice to have links in one spot.
idyllwild's highs and lows
huntmaster's WY elk take two
Hunt's Bulls of misty mountain
Please add any good ones that you can remember and find.
Kevin Dill's 15 Days Alone Not Elk, but a great story and a buddy thought it should be included.
BB's "A Season on the San Jaun"
There was one about a guy just learning to call, on his first hunt in Idaho. He almost froze one night. he had two buddies but spiked way back by himself to find the elk. Called it from the opposite ridge and met it in the bottom. That was a good one.
Can you remember the title of it or who posted it? If you can think of it and search it up, post a link.
That was Steve Jo's "Idaho, solo, ultralight". I found it but it comes up in Bowsite mobile for whatever reason so no pics!
Adam Greentree's NM elk hunt. Fantastic story and photos!
Revived link for Steve Jo's Idaho, solo, ultralight
You gotta find TBM's elk adventure from last year. Word has it that he might have gone again this year and connected again.
I think it would be interesting to see a list of all posts sorted by highest # of replies. Maybe Pat could add a more extensive search function that could do this by a selected date range also.

Paul@thefort's Let's go elk hunting solo style
Not really an elk story...maybe with a stretch it fits under advice...nonetheless, gotta include the manscaping thread.
A couple of mine from the past.
I may have another one coming soon too...
Wrong link again- ignore please. I'm losing my mind...
For some reason I can't find the link to the story I wrote up in 2014 of our WY elk hunt. That was a fun one... If someone else can find it, please post the link. I'm obviously not smart enough to run a computer today!!!
Scoot - Thanks for posting those links. Great stories and pics.
Here's my 2014 write up of our hunt. It was a good un!
Dont waste your time reading the link Barty1970 posted...
I want those 10 minutes back...
I'm with cnelk. I'm not a big fan of how he comports himself, however I think his attitude highlights the extreme differences between the authors of every other story on this thread and Steve. I think that I would consider myself fortunate to share a camp with any of these other guys.
I hope that others will continue to post links to their stories or the quality stories of others that they've enjoyed. My lurking buddy has been reading voraciously and I've had fun revisiting them as well.
He he he...profuse apologies...but I couldn't resist
Yep. No need to apologize. Someone drew my attention back to that link. Apparently that forum reached saturation and made the decision to discontinue further stories from Steve. Bounced him and locked the thread.
Hunt's Following the noise.
ttt - for another friend to check out
I just finished mine up...
Scoot's story. His link is to a different thread.
Bwahahahahaha not sure how I could have mangled the links in this thread anymore than I did!
No problem Scoot. Fantastic story again.
Got a PM and thought I'd bump this up. Please drop in a link to any of your favorite hunt stories. Resurrect them for others. Enjoying a story or two over the holidays will be nice.
It was a new elk hunter that prompted this thread, but the stories don't have to be elk stories.
Thanks Barty1970. I'd like that 15 minutes back.

Thanks for starting this great thread orionsbrother. Really enjoying it. Also your user name is cool.
Bumping this up for Shane
My favorite is BB's story about unit 61 called something like "Of broken horns and broken dreams." I can't find it in the archives and I probably don't have the title exactly right. If anyone knows the exact title or how to find it, i think it would be a good one to be on here. Great thread by the way.
BB definitely had some awesome experiences and takes some unbelievable photos! I tried looking for that one and couldn't find it either.
one of my most memorable hunts ... and not in a good way
Jake's Tom Edgington Desert Bighorn Story
Back up for the new guy. These stories are amazing. My son printed them all so each is on its own page. Most of your hunts I am right there with thiu. Thank you.
Wow......gee thanks Rick.......concentration blown and a bunch of late nights reading ahead......... :)
Old School's Link
There is no place to gather, learn and experience the most incredible bow hunts you guys have experienced and shared than Bowsite. Thx all! C

BB's recap of his Colorado 61 elk hunt
If this doesn't belong let me know and I can edit the post. This is my brief story of how my son and I began hunting a few years ago. I was finally able to place my tag on an elk this season. So grateful.
A little "elk poetry" ...for the Holidays...
