Half in the bag
Whitetail Deer

Last year I borrowed a heater body suit and it allowed me to hunt comfortably in the late season....apparently my buddy wants it back so I thought I had better get one ordered up. While shopping I ran across the "half in the bag" I laughed at first but then I thought maybe it's not so bad.... the price is appealing. Anybody seen or used one??
Tried to add a link but failed....
I think there will be substantial heat loss out the top and probably cold feet as well. One of those things where you get what you pay for IMO.

I disliked the hbs for its bulkiness too, can't imagine trying to hunt from A stand with it, this may be better.?????
I bet there's a reason its on clearance. If the body suit worked for you then I'd stick to what I know.
Last year I tried the IWOM XT, but just could not get comfortable moving around on my stand. I returned it for the Stalker XT, insulated version and that is perfect. Same as the IWOM XT, but the bottom is open for my feet. There's elastic at the bottom to keep it snug around your ankles.
I was told that they have these at the hardware store in town so if I make it in to town I can look at one.
I somewhat agree with Pat, but I have kept mine. I may only use it 2 or 3 times a year but it is invaluable to me when it get below zero. The half in the bag to me defeats the purpose of the HBS, the idea is to trap your body heat inside. The HITB would let the heat escape. Shawn
It'd protect the openings on either side of your pants from wind...
I don't understand why more hunters don't wear coveralls. They really shine in the wind because there's one less spot (waste) for air to leak in. A heavy-duty set of insulated coveralls are far more warm than a 2 piece set. You can wear a ton of layers under them and unzip the top and the legs on the way to the stand and zip them up when you start to get cold. I've worn them down to -20 (ambient) plus wind in AK and been comfortable so long as I had good head, hand, and foot protection. The coldest in-stand that I've worn them was 5 degrees F, but there were 20 mph winds. Still comfortable and sat all day and I'm from Southern California.
Here's a hint. For several thousand years now, people have been using blankets to stay warm. Buy a surplus wool blanket and rig it to wear like a cape. When you need to shoot it is easy to get out of the way. When trying to stay warm, you can snuggle up in it. I have several friends that do this as well. It is bomb proof. God Bless
I did a few late season hunts here and a sleeping bag was invaluable. We were sitting on the ground dug into the snow. Sleeping bag over the boots and up to your waist. Then sit down. I was warm for a morning sit at -32. No deer that morning though.
I want to make myself a lightweight half bag kind of what is pictured, I think it would work perfectly. You could put your jacket over it as well.
Anybody goy linky to product?

I have never found a pair of coveralls that fit properly.
Here's the link z
Half of a bag is a whole problem imo. The reason the HBS works is because it is a heat containment system. If your heat isn't completely contained it is far inferior. The HBS is cumbersome, but it sure works. I also only need it 3% of the time, but would wear it a heck of a lot more if it was easier to use, because once you are inside it and using it to shoot you think to yourself - dang this is the BEST!
I've been using the HBS for years and it is not at all cumbersome. I've killed a bunch of deer while wearing it. My daughter killed 3 deer out of hers when she was 13-14 years old. I can't see how clothing can contain your body heat as well, since you lose through hands, feet, and head mostly. I can sit all day in well-below zero temps and be toasty warm. Not just able to tough it out, but actually warm.
It's cumbersome when you use a hang on that you set up each and every time you head out. Putting it on 20ft up isn't mt definition of relaxing, but having it on is :)
I use a LW hang on, set it up every time I hunt. I can be in that suit in about a minute, faster when it's really cold!!
I've got one like new for sale Large $300. And these do work
I had a service aniversary at work and received a gift card at the hardware store so I thought I might as well purchase one. im not super impressed, I will give it a try and let you know what I think.
