Free Aus Buff Bowhunt for 2018 season (July-Sept) for one hunter, which include 2 x Buffalo of your choice and free accommodation/food. (and boars and scrub bulls)
Draw framework:
- post any information in this thread about either the hunting area (Northern Territory of Australia) OR about Australian Water Buffalo; - the draw will run until the end of February 2017; - I will draw a random post and announce the winner 2 March 2017; - the hunt is not transferable and if the winner cannot make it, I will simply draw another.
This time frame allows you to make flight arrangements, ask any questions, prepare your gear for the hunt, etc.

I can't believe I could even have a chance to hunt this large bovid introduced to Australia sometime between 1824 and 1849! I sure wouldn't mind being an unnatural predator as their only natural one is the saltwater crocodile. What a cool draw!

Water buffalo were imported to Australia in the 19th century to supply meat to remote northern settlements. The settlements and their buffalo were abandoned in 1949 and, despite harvesting for meat, hides and as hunters' trophies, feral buffalo spread across the northern floodplains.
This should get the winner fired up! Remember, if you win, you might want to consider footing your arrows, OR using a heavy arrow with an outsert.....Australian Water Buffalo are thicker through the body than a Cape Buffalo. The Northern Territory time zone is 13.5 hours ahead of the eastern United States....plan your sleep cycle/jet lag accordingly!!

I would have to up my draw weight to hunt an animal as large as the Water Buffalo.

This is an absolutely incredible offer! Being this is my first year ever hunting, let alone starting out with my bow, I'm probably not the guy you're looking for. There are many very small settlements scattered across the northern territory, but the larger population centers are located on the single paved road that links Darwin to southern Australia, the Stuart Highway, known to locals simply as "the track".
The Northern Territory is also home to two spectacular natural rock formations, Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), which are sacred to the local Aboriginal peoples and which have become major tourist attractions.
In the northern part of the Territory lies Kakadu National Park, which features breathtaking wetlands and native wildlife. To the north of that lies the Arafura Sea, and to the east lies Arnhem Land, whose regional centre is Maningrida on the Liverpool River delta. There is an extensive series of river systems in the Northern Territory. Good luck to all who are trying for it and watch out for those snakes over there, Browns, Tigers, and taipans, watch where you step. Not sure if all those snakes inhabit the Northern Territory but just the though of the sends chills up the spine.
Water buffalo are true buffalo, unlike the American Bison which people commonly call buffalo (think buffalo nickels, etc).

Dated a girl once that was like a water buffalo. She was big, black and mean and if she caught you sneaking up behind her there was a chance she would try to kill you!

I already have arrows set up for my longbow over your minimum of 800 grains... Either Grizzly Sticks or Carbon Express arrows set up with 300 grain single bevel heads:) Have worked well off of my normal 60 pound bow and shot completely through a NA bison. May have to pull my 70 pound longbow out of retirement for this hunt, though! Sounds like an awesome adventure with the possibility of catching some barramundi on my fly rod as well!

With buffs, its all about horny, and the Auzie buffs have the biggest horns in the bush. (Also more attractive than the African and Asiatics). Hope to hunt downunder someday.

Australia has two types of buffalo: the river type from western Asia, with curled horns, and the swamp type from eastern Asia, with swept-back horns.
Congratulations Scar--I am jealous. And thanks to Eugene for the kind offer. I hadn't put much thought into it until now, but now is on my bucket list. After some research, we put Australia closer to the top--even have my wife researching a trip there now. I hope to make it over there in the coming years and I'll look you up based on this offer you made.

I was actually planning on doing exactly that... I will post it up as I go along and figure out what all the specifics and costs are. I already think I am going to be 8-10K out of pocket by the time it's all said and done. maybe a little more if my wife joins me, which it looks like she will at this point. it's still a long ways off:)

I am unbelievably excited and grateful for this opportunity! I am just a regular working man and this is probably and most likely a once in a lifetime trip for me!
BTW, Eugene is a great guy! I have been conversing with him daily through email and he is very helpful and responds very quickly!
The hunt sounds incredible and it will be an adventure of a lifetime! The area we will be hunting is literally out in the middle of nowhere!

Water buffalo were imported to Australia in the 19th century to supply meat to remote northern settlements. The settlements and their buffalo were abandoned in 1949. Eradication efforts in the 80's and 90's reduced the numbers significantly. Numbers are very high again in the Northern region, causing damage to wetlands.
