The Northern Territory time zone is 13.5 hours ahead of the eastern United States....plan your sleep cycle/jet lag accordingly!!

Water Buffalo are herbivores, consuming a variety of grasses and plants as they graze. They will also consume various types of plants that grow in the shallow areas of the water. They don’t stay and eat in one place for long. The movement of the herd helps to ensure that the land will be able to grow new grass and other elements again.

I'd love to hunt water buffalo in the remote Arnhem Land, which is located in the Northern Territory of Australia. I will need a strong, solid and thick two bladed cut-on-contact broad head and crank by bow down or up to 70 lbs.
That is an amazing offer. I'd love to do this! Between 1824 and 1849, water buffalo were introduced into the Northern Territory from Timor, Kisar, and probably other islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Thanks for the opportunity! Good Luck to all (especially me!)
Water buffalo taste great grilled with a nice amber ale to compliment it.
This is an absolutely incredible offer! Being this is my first year ever hunting, let alone starting out with my bow, I'm probably not the guy you're looking for. Heck, I've never even rifle hunted before. However, I would absolutely love the opportunity to get my first ever kill on one of those 1,000KG Giants!!! I've been holding out on taking my first animal to make sure it's something worth going on the wall, and a big old Australian Water buffalo from Arnhem Land in Northern Australia would be an amazing first!!! Thanks again Eugene for offering such an awesome hunt. Congrats to whoever wins, we better see some awesome pictures. Australian Buffalo Safaris looks amazing!
The Northern Territories have some of the worlds most dangerous snakes to go with some of the most beautiful country in Australia. Water Buff would be a dream hunt come true for me and I would want to do it with my longbow.

hunting North American wild Bison in 2017- would love to see that part of the world and have a chance to hunt Water Buffalo--thanks for the generous offer
There are many very small settlements scattered across the northern territory, but the larger population centers are located on the single paved road that links Darwin to southern Australia, the Stuart Highway, known to locals simply as "the track".
The Northern Territory is also home to two spectacular natural rock formations, Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), which are sacred to the local Aboriginal peoples and which have become major tourist attractions.
In the northern part of the Territory lies Kakadu National Park, which features breathtaking wetlands and native wildlife. To the north of that lies the Arafura Sea, and to the east lies Arnhem Land, whose regional centre is Maningrida on the Liverpool River delta. There is an extensive series of river systems in the Northern Territory. These rivers include: the Alligator Rivers, Daly River, Finke River, McArthur River, Roper River, Todd River and Victoria River.
Also. . . I REALLY want to go there. I've been researching it off and on for a couple years for a combination hunt/vacation with the wife. Once I knock off Asia in about 600 days, it's the only continent I haven't visited yet aside from Antarctica
I'd really like to drive to Ayers Rock/Ularoo and see that area as well
During the 80s and 90s the population was reduced due to a Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign
The Dingo eats their babies!!!
Hi,
Thanks for all the interest, much appreciated.
The way I will select the winner:
- Reduce multiple posts from the same person to one, ensuring everybody has an equal chance;
- Write poster name on piece of paper;
- Mix all the pieces together in a container;
- Ask my 4 year old son (that already wants to hunt buff … lol) to draw a piece of paper from the bowl.
Good luck to everybody and looking forward to share a camp fire with one of you.
Regards,
Eugene
The dominant female that will decide when the herd moves, males are aggressive!

Wow! What a great gesture for an outfitter to give a hunt away, certainly any bowsiter going to Australia to hunt buff should use this outfitter. Good luck to all who are trying for it and watch out for those snakes over there, Browns, Tigers, and taipans, watch where you step. Not sure if all those snakes inhabit the Northern Territory but just the though of the sends chills up the spine.
Water buffalo are true buffalo, unlike the American Bison which people commonly call buffalo (think buffalo nickels, etc).
Awesome gesture, the winner will no doubt have an incredible time.....hopefully me stading behind a large buffalo...LOL
The population of northern Australia became established in the late 19th century.

The Northern Territory is often referred to as the "Top End" and has a total population of 250,000. Do all buffalo die with four feet in the air?
From Katherine heading north, to the Top End of the Northern Territory where Darwin is located there is no winter as the climate is tropical monsoonal with a dry and wet season. The dry season from May to October is typically when tourists visit, as the days are filled with blue skies and sunshine and the evening’s cool breezes bring down the temperature. The lower humidity and average daily temperature of around 32°C make for perfect weather while the southern parts of Australia face winter.
The population is the nation’s youngest, at a median age of just 31.3 years*, but also the smallest with just over 235 000 people living and working in this vast expanse of land. Northern Territorians are typically vibrant, happy, outdoor-loving people who know how to enjoy life.

The settlements and their buffalo were abandoned in 1949 and, despite harvesting for meat, hides and as hunters' trophies, feral buffalo spread across the northern floodplains. They must be managed. I'd be happy to do my part :)
Australia has two types of buffalo: the river type from western Asia, with curled horns, and the swamp type from eastern Asia, with swept-back horns.
Their only natural predators in Australia are adult saltwater crocodiles, with whom they share the billabongs, and dingoes, which have been known to prey on buffalo calves and occasionally adult buffalo when the dingoes are in large packs. I hope a dingo doesn't eat my buff when I go on this trip! I'm in! This is a great gesture! Thanks!
An Austrailian buffalo is the only species left missing from my "buffalo" collection. I'd sure like to win this trip and fill that hole.
Every deer species and the buffalo of Austrailia are introduced, non-native species.
21 of the 25 most venomous snakes in the world live in Australia. The rest of you guys should withdraw from this contest immediately, I will assume the horrifying risk for you.
Many Aboriginal cultures still exist in the Northern Territory, such as the Larrakia people, who are sometimes called the ‘Saltwater People’.

You do have to watch your step!!
The Water Buffalo bull has a "member" that is 3 feet long! So much for size doesn't matter:/
Scar.
The backstraps from a large bull are about the size you would get from a buck mule deer. They are gut wagons.
Trust me on this. I helped butcher and pack five of them.
A male eats about 30 kilos of food per day!
The current SCI Archery World record measures 118 4/8
Certainly some interesting posts ... lol
Scar: Unsure about the "member" length ... but when the "member" sticks out, you have a bull with attitude that likely stands its ground with head shakes and foot stomping ... lol
Absolutely amazing gesture and offer! Habu and Brodsky beat me with the poisonous snake comments. (I love snakes). Experiencing the vistas and wildlife, a dream come true. Bow hunting an animal capable of killing me - priceless. Thanks Eugene.
Eugeneb,
It says so on the internet, so it HAS TO BE TRUE:) LOL Have a blessed day!

Cows can have wide horns, but smaller bases.
According to Wikipedia, more people depend on domestic Water Buffalo (for draft work, food, and milk) than any other domestic animal in the world. I'm very impressed with your offer and would be delighted to come hunt these huge creatures if my name were to be drawn. Thank you for the chance!
Both males and females have horns with the bull's horns being heavier.
So I read through everything. Never even considered Water Buffalo in Australia, but now it might be added to the list of dream hunts. Hope I get picked... My family would love to visit Australia wh
"The taste of the water buffalo meat is very similar to beef but it is considered a healthier alternative because buffalo meat contains less fat and cholesterol, and more protein than beef." Great gesture, looks like an amazing hunt!
Water buffalo were imported into the NT in the 19th century as working animals and meat for the remote northern settlements. When the early settlements were abandoned, the buffalo were released, where they became feral. I've always dreamed of visiting Australia. Thanks for offering the hunt.
Dated a girl once that was like a water buffalo. She was big, black and mean and if she caught you sneaking up behind her there was a chance she would try to kill you!
This hunt would take place in late winter-early spring in the Southern Hemisphere. Great gesture Eugeneb! If selected, I will hunt them with a left handed bow just to make it tougher.
WOW, Water Buffalo in Australia has been on my bucket list for a long time! What an amazing offer! Thank you, Eugene and Australia Buffalo Safaris for the offer!
I already have arrows set up for my longbow over your minimum of 800 grains... Either Grizzly Sticks or Carbon Express arrows set up with 300 grain single bevel heads:) Have worked well off of my normal 60 pound bow and shot completely through a NA bison. May have to pull my 70 pound longbow out of retirement for this hunt, though! Sounds like an awesome adventure with the possibility of catching some barramundi on my fly rod as well!
Would be really interesting to see the story from the lucky guy that wins this hunt put up here on the bowsite for everyone to enjoy!
Would love to make a trip over there with the wife and meet you guys!
You should scratch bowonly from the list. He's been over there about five times and has better things to do.
Buffalo were exported live to Indonesia until 2011, at a rate of about 3000 per year.
There are two types of water buffalo the river buffalo with 50 chromosomes and the swamp buffalo with 48. Thanks for the great offer.

Barramundi live nearby and are fun and tasty
I can't wait to go. I wasted a very expensive plane ticket years ago to Australia due to a outfitter debacle. I would love to buy another ticket and go this time
The Northern Territory’s population includes people of many ethnic backgrounds as well as those of aboriginal descent. In 1977 – federal legislation enabled aboriginal descendants to claim traditional ownership of vacant Crown land and today Aboriginal land trusts hold title to about 40 per cent of the Territory.
RT airfare is about $1250 from LAX to Darwin.
The adult water buffalo’s weight is between 1,500 and 2,650 pounds, with males being fairly larger than females.
Great offer!

MarkU, that's the pot calling the kettle black for sure! You got as many buff as me, so Eugene will be scratching you. Besides, aren't you getting a little long in the tooth for big trips in airplanes?
Bull Water buffalo regularly have two different size testicles
Water buffalos milk has more fat than cattle....
Water Buffaloes fear me!! Probably not as much as they should though if you draw me. Would love the challenge of bowhunting them and have never been to Australia. Two great reasons to go.
Water buffalo thrive on aquatic plants...
Just the shear size of the water buffalo has to have one shiver out of both fear and utter excitement, and to question do I really have what it takes to poke a arrow into one.
After I get drawn for this amazing hunt, I will be welcoming advice from the rest of the applicants for a complete snake chap outfit. Including the beanie!
Sometimes I call my buddies aborigines, even though they aren't (as far as I know...)
Fact: Water buffalo can reach weights of 2200 pounds!
The Northern Territory of Australia has got to be the ultimate setting for the adventure of bowhunting water buffalo.
I just upped the poundage on my bow to 70 pounds in order to be prepared for this hunt!!!

Congratulations Scar--I am jealous. And thanks to Eugene for the kind offer. I hadn't put much thought into it until now, but now is on my bucket list.
