As some of you may know, Lou is down in Southern Arizona Coues deer hunting. I have been in contact with him off and on for a week or so. Just got a text saying he moved to a different area and sicker than hell.
He is having a tough time, battling a sinus infection and trying to get a prescription sent down to some po-dunk town so he can keep hunting.
I thought it would be nice to sent some well-wishes his way and hope he comes back with another fine story and pics.
Get well. Hunting with illness is tough. Good luck on the prescription.
What, no call?
Good luck, Lou.
Get better and enjoy!! Scooby
That stinks. Hope you feel better Lou and although it may sound like a potential solution for temporary relief, self medicating with peyote growing around there probably won't help your odds of getting out hunting.
Dang, Lou....slip accross the border and get it over the counter.
Good luck!
A bottle of tequila down the hatch and a nap will cure him.
Do what you have to do to get better but don't cross the border Good luck with the rest of your hunt
Feel Better Lou! There has been a really bad on going around! It's a butt kicker for sure!
God Bless!
Scar.
Lou,
Well wishes for a speedy recovery from your illness.
Good luck with the remainder of your hunt.
Hope you are on the mend and feeling better soon Lou!
Lou, thought about a Neilmed sinus rinse kit? They REALLY help clear up sinuses with morning/evening use. Or, to paraphrase what someone already posted, light a candle, drink hooch until you see two of them, blow both of them out and sleep it off. Recommend Herredura Reposado for the specific bugs down south.
Get better quickly Lou, kill a good one, and bring us a good story !
I have the same cold. I'd recommend he gets some Alka-Seltzer Plus cough and cold medicine. It really sucks being sick on a hunt. Get well and get your buck!
Dang Lou, that sucks! I know how much you were looking forward to the hunt. Take care and get well!
Maybe that hippie chick from Laramie will show up with a Hot Toddy...get you felling better in no time! ;-)
Don't listen to these guys Lou! Tequila, beans and the confined space of a small trailer could be hazardous.
Get better. We're pullin' for ya.
Hope you feel better soon l Lou!
Lou, you dummy! I was minutes away and have 4 different kinds of antibiotics in my first aid kit. You said it was "a cold."
Mountain hippie chick in yoga pants is on her way with the meds! Hang in there Lou! >>>>~~~~>
Hang in there Lou, getting sick sucks, even worse when on a hunt! Hope you feel better & good luck!

Get Well and good luck! I'm prone to sinus infection, makes for a miserable time.
Sorry to hear that, Lou.
Hope you're able to get some relief, and get back out there.
Best Wishes, Jeff
Gosh Lou, you're being a baby now son... Next, you'll be complaining bout the sunburn and that cactus spines...
Get well soon and good luck hunting Mr Feral.
Feel better Lou! Get that coues!
Hang tough you old school goat!!! I'm sure you will....
It will be a great story! Look forward to hearing it.
Mike
That sucks.
I need his GPS coordinates to send the flowers to....
Those musty strip clubs in Tucson can wreak havoc on your sinuses..... Feel better Lou and good luck.
Every person I know that went to AZ to hunt coues has killed one. I'm sure Lou will too. Best of luck buddy.
Get well soon Lou
Good luck, Robb
Best wishes for better health ASAP!
Thanks a bunch, guys. Appreciate all the positive thoughts and I'm trying different combinations of all the remedies suggested!
Seriously, I have a badly deviated septum and have had two full septoplaty surgeries. They don't do a third one. I get a sinus infection like this every winter, sometimes when I go somewhere where there is pollen I'm not used to. (Last one was when I was fishing in Patagonia - Chile). I should just carry a 5 day regimen of Arithro but didn't. I'm in great Coues country and glassing them up but haven't really been able to hunt since last Monday due to the constant coughing from the sinus drain. Plus I have no energy.
Got to Nogales yesterday to a pharmacy and started on the Arithro, so hopefully in a couple days I'll be good to go. Its rainy today and tomorrow so good days to recuperate. Saw the biggest buck I've seen all trip this morning, working a doe in a very stalkable spot. But the coughing wouldn't stop while I was getting ready to go in camp so I left him alone.
Anyway, thanks again!
Lou's got a good lesson for us. I occasionally end up hunting where it might be days before I can get out. Because of that I have my doctor give me a prescription for an antibiotic and some serious pain killers. They are part of any fly in and in camp wherever I hunt. Bet Lou has his meds next year.
LKH,
Me too man! The get sinus infections every year... I always have antibiotics, steroids and pain killers in my first aid kit. My doc understands the type of hunting and the distance to help... Oh, and I carry a body stapler with me... They don't call me ScarFinga for nuthin:/ God Bless! Scar.
Lou: My Doc has me use Tessalon Perles (generic is Benzonatate, 100mg) for uncontrollable cough. 3 pills a day and after one day it's under control. Sounds like you're on the recovery road now but this has worked for me when nothing else would stop a cough! Get a good one! C
Good hunting Lou, You have my prayers and God Bless, Steve
Hopefully that arthro will help you...Keep us posted bud.....
Best of luck, Lou. Get well!
Geez Lou.... I was just goin' through my kitbag and first aid kit to see if I could help.
Only things I came across were these things called "percs" and a couple oxi-somethin'..... not sure if it would help with a cough, but you might not care anyway..... I understand especially when taken with some of the prior mentioned cold remedies......
My understanding is that CO medicine does not help with a cough and might actually temporarily cause it...... but again.... you might not care......
Hope you get to feeling better. Bad enough feeling bad when hunting local but I'm sure it really sucks when you invested a lot of effort into an out of state hunt.
Good luck hope you get well. Good luck on the hunt and a great story to follow.
Get better!
I have to shove some Vicks up my nose every few hours so I can breath down here. Didn't stop my from shooting a nice Coues buck last week! Whatever it takes, but these allergies suck!
Get well Lou... stop by on your way North. Ed F
Lou, hope you got your meds by now and starting to feel better! Take care of yourself and good luck on the hunt.
Thanks guys. Really crappy weather today so I drove out to call the wife. Two days on the antibiotics and I may be feeling a little better. At least I slept most of the night. Yesterday afternoon I hiked in and glasses up a promising one but too far to go after him.
Charlie, the cough is due to drainage into my throat from the sinus infection so I actually need to cough to keep clearing. As far as lessons learned, I also have diverticulosis and carry the two scripts for that wherever I go. Guess I should carry a 5 day dose of antis for this, too.
Seems like everybody has killed a Coues except me this year. But I've really only actually hunted for about 4 days before getting sick, new species in a place I've never been before. I have some time left, thinking positive.
On a different note, I encountered what appeared to be some drug runners heading back south for another load. Came right by my camp and looked pretty surly. Also ran into a bunch of young idealistic "amnesty" pukes who had taken in a bunch of water, food, and camo shelter tarps to ease the journey for the heroin runners. They told me they were "picking up trash" but the BP guys who came by later walked out of the canyon after dark and told me the real story about their mission. The trash bags they were carrying were full of empty water and food containers. Great. I'd unwittingly camped right on a drug mule highway, so I moved my camp back a couple miles.
Get 'em Lou. I had the same thing a couple weeks or so ago. It's rough. But, you are tougher. I worked through it so, I know you can hunt through it. God Bless
Lou's hunt is over. And not without a story and some photos he will share upon returning home.
And what a story and pics they will be
I just heard tale, Brad. People will want to hear this! :)
Good for Lou. Patiently waiting for photos and story.
You guys aren't going to believe it. He shot a Mexican and is returning to CO with 300 lbs of marijuana.
Idyl, smuggling Mary Jane into Colorado is a money loser??
Get well Lou and kill a Biggin.
Hey, if I can find 50#, Lou should at least find another 100#. Party down.
A couple years ago in So. AZ hunting Coues, it was not unusual to cut fresh human tracks crossing the roads (south to north) going into our areas in the mornings. Not too many hunters wearing sandals or tennis shoes that time of year. BP was at most road crossings in the evenings.....interesting place to hunt.
I'm in chaos mode right now. Story and photos to follow in a couple days when (if) I make it home.
Suffice to say that being bad sick for 10 of the past 14 days was the highlight of the trip. I am truly lucky to be alive right now.
Can't wait Lou ! If you don't carry, you need to start if you're gonna insist on rubbing elbows with illegals and drug runners. Glad you made it, we would miss you around here !
Pictures or it didn't happen.
(Last time I said that to Lou, you should've seen the pictures!)
^^ Lake Jon Cabin, Yep, Deertick!
Pictures. Yes. One more hint and I'm going to bed because I have a busy day and long drive tomorrow. During part of the event I was swinging a hatchet with purpose and was hit in the temple with a fifth of Scotch, which didn't break, and which I'm now putting to use (in moderation, of course) in a Motel 6 in Benson AZ.
Glad you made it out and lived to tell about it Jaq. AZ is a firearm friendly state, even for non residents, so you should probably keep that in mind if they let you go back there.
Looking forward to more details.
I always carry a .357. Wasnt really a factor in this episode. If so it may have been even worse than it was. When I told the first responding cop I was carrying and had a CO CCP, he smiled and said, "No problem". He just wanted to know if I needed medical attention. Only a little blood and a couple bruises and a bump on the head so I declined.
Geez.... a good thing I didn't send the drugs I'd rounded up in my medicine cabinet...... although sounds like they might come in handy right now........ good grief Lou.....
No more x-rays please, unless they are from the neck up !
Wow Lou! Just saw this. Glad to hear all is well, considering all this trip through (literally) at you!
Didn't realize them tiny whities were so friggen dangerous to hunt!
Lou sounds like you had some troubles with border jumpers or tangled with a mountain lion? Glad your ok.
Sounds like Lou got caught in a sand wind storm pulling his trailer, is my guess,
ONLY A GUESS NOT FACT YET. Lou will tell the real story of bumps and bruises.
Whew!! Lordy!! Thank goodness Lou's an erudite man and not some cement head!
This 'd be even more disturbing if the bottle had broken.
Will this become part of Bowsite lexicon? ; "Never bring scotch to a hatchet fight."
Lou what the hell did you get yourself into...
Whoa. This should be interesting. Glad you're ok!
Lou glad you are ok. Waiting for the story.
I hunted about 40 miles from Lou last week...............this sign was at the spot where I walked to the blind about 400 yards off the road.
No incidents for me thankfully.
cnelk's Link
Maybe Lou got attacked by this rabid bobcat???
and worst yet, one of these critters.
Paul, it's always a treat to see one of them critters, even better a whole band.
Can't wait to hear this one!
So what's the story? Have a feeling this will be a Bowsite classic just like Paul's.
Travel safe Lou. Hunting is always an adventure, sometimes not planned that way.
It's good to hear you came out among the living! (grin)
ElkNut1
My post contained a speculative question before having any details.
Lou - glad that you at least survived the hunt, despite some "bruises"! Was it really the 5th of scotch and a hatchet or the encounter with the hippie girl in yoga pants??? :) >>>>>-------->
Lou what the heck happened to you brother?
Serb doesn't live to far from you and only owns about 3 dozen Ar's next time take him as some muscle. Those Serbs are batshit crazy for a fight
Lou will wake up and it was a dream or a long night of pounding scotch and learning how to throw a hatchet! Can't wait for the story.
I can't wait for this one...Glad your still kickin!
Those immigrant women can get wild.
So Lou, where is the story??
Dang Lou, sounds like that hippy chick from Laramie finally caught up with you!
Glad you're ok. Hope she looks worse! ;-)
I just got home late last night and have been unpacking and getting life back together all day.
Thread on the way in a few minutes - "My Coues Hunt From Hell"
Just got a text from an old friend Steve G. He asked that I pass the message along: "Dear Jamico, get wel soon. PS, I rolled a traileer once on the way to a hunt and still kilked 2 cows bucks. Too out of 10 shootin ain't bad."
Nothing worse than a sinus infection. Hang it there Lou it will pass man
