All started in Alaska 2009 with my Dall! So naive about Sheep Hunting, but got it done on day two. Planned on it being my only sheep hunt but......
Congrats again buddy. You deserve it.
Take us through it Tim! Congrats again my friend. #7 for me next year. Hoping to "get it done".
This will be good...........very good...........
Excellent work Tim! Congrats!
Awesome! Congrats Tim, looking forward to your story!
Happy for ya man......spill the details.
Looking forward to reading about your hunts. Congratulations.
Man, why did you have to start this today. Now I'm gonna spend the rest of my day clicking back and forth between yours and Huntman's threads waiting for updates!
Congrats on the hard earned sheep. Happy for you!

September of 2013 I got my next try at a Ram in the Fraiser River Valley in BC. I missed a great Ram and passed 23 legal sheep as I fell in love with the one I couldn’t get!
Congrats again man!!! Looking forward to celebrating in person sometime soon! Also, I tried to put in a claim for Lee as my personal Golden Horseshoe but sounds like you beat me to the punch lol
Congrats Tim. Looking forward to the story!
Badass. Looking forward to this
Wow Tim..... Awesome is a word that works..... need.... more.....
I went back in October, passed this guy and a few others, set 150 yards from my target buck for five days, never got a shot.
Congrats again Tim! Awesome accomplishment
Congrats Tim!!!!!! You got it done "quick" compared to some of us! I'd like to have a celebratory beer with you at the Sheep Show! Kurt
Awesome. That's a huge accomplishment. Lee done sent me the pic, but I'm looking forward to the story.
Congratulations! Looking forward to the "rest of the story"
So far I am 1 ram for 4 tags. Sheep are tough critters to get with a bow for sure...
Awesome can’t wait to hear....bring it kid!
Man this was a dream come true and I wasn't even hunting ! Just along for the ride abd what a ride it was!! Stay tuned!!! We on way home now , story will come ...
Congratulations again Tim
Congrats looking forward to more pictures.
A huge congrats Tim!
You knew you couldn't (or wouldn't) stop with "just one!!"
Keep it rolling!
Mark
This is going to be good!!
Great job Tim,,,ill bet you could write a book as to all of your ups and downs on those hunts,,no pun intended,,,good for you brother!! Huge congratulations!!!
Congrats again Tim, well deserved.
Looking like a good thread right here. awesome animals.
So sorry guys! That front rolled in and my service died, just pulled an all-nighter, driving straight thru from Colorado to Louisiana! I’ll get some stuff up ASAP!
2014 has me with high hopes as a long waited Carmen Island Hunt was coming true. I made a deal with Sergio and brought my family! I also severely under-estimated this hunt, more physical than expected.
Half way through the hunt I shoot a great Ram, he tumbles down the hillside and I knock another Arrow but Gaspar (legendary Carmen guide) tells me it’s not necessary as my Ram is done! Only, seconds later the Ram gets up and runs off! The amount of blood he’s leaving has us not concerned that he’s not going far, 3 mikes later, we lose his track and never recover him! I’m sick!
I leave the Island with great memories but also a bit heartbroken!
November 15th, (my wife’s birthday) I’m sitting in my kitchen reading Bowsite and I get a message from Sergio, he has a cancellation!! I believe it’s his only cancellation EVER! I leave that night, best wife ever! I’ve got 5 days to get it done! Carmen here I come, solo!
It’s much cooler this time, I’ve been running everyday and know the drill so it’s on! First 3- days are windy, very windy. So much in fact the sheep have gone underground! We push the pace and hunt long and hard, unfortunately coming down after dark on the third night I slip and fall, take a tumble and crack a couple ribs. Day 4 I can’t gey out of bed for an hour much less pull an 80# bow.
Day 5 with the help of ibuprophine we hunt! Late in the afternoon I get my chance and make the best of it. 1/2 slammer!
That winter at the “Sheep Show” I booked a Tuchodi Stone Sheep Hunt for August of 2017. I still had an opportunity to hunt the Cali because it was an allocation not a tag.
CONGRATS TIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done and perfect shot
Congrats on the slam Tim! Can't wait for the rest of the story!
Back to Fraiser River Valley in Sept of 2015. This was the last year of allocations so I was going to shoot the first mature/legal Ram that gave me an opportunity. Upon arrival I met the other hunter in camp and helped him spot/take/pack out a nice Ram. I was up next!
Next day I move in on 7 Rams, they walk by single file I shoot the biggest! He runs out on a rock out-cropping, I give him time to expire. He does but falls into the Fraiser! Never to be seen again!
Keep it comin Tim! Awesome Dall, man he is pretty, Congrats! Sorry to hear about the bad fall and ribs but happy to see you still got it done. Nice ram to boot!
Time to switch gears, I got a Colorado Bighorn Tag for October 2016. I find Rams early in the hunt.
What an awesome story thanks for taking us along!! Keep it coming and congrats!
I’m hunting Puratoire area S61 I believe. Rough Canyons with lots of Rimrock and Cedar, not you typical Sheep country.
Only on Bowsite. Thanks for showing us the highlights and enjoy your success !
Day 5 we catch 5 Rams below us, one is a beauty, with angle comp the distance is 60 yards, as the big Ram clears I release, arrow finds it’s mark, just left of spine in the chest. Takes us an hour or so to get off the rim and down to my Ram. We find a generous blood trail but never the Ram.
Damn. You got a lot of bad luck
After 5 days of searching I head home! Man I’ve got to figure this out!
I get a call in December, they’ve spotted my Ram, Tag is good, come on down!
We hunt 5 days and see over 40 Rams but not mine, I head home but not before I get a plan to return next year!
2017 I change my training to include more shooting time but less arrows shot and after sight in, strictly shoot only 3-D targets. Headed up for Tuchodi in late July to get acclamented and scouting done.
Second day of the season I score a beautiful Stone Ram!! Maybe I’m starting to put it together?
One species left and I’m pulling out all stops! Lee Duet (cajunarcher) is lucky and has agreed to come along and share that Luck. We drive to Clayton NM, overnight and meet Outfitter in Trinidad the next morning for tags and licenses.
We get to the ranch unload our gear and sign releases. Before I have time to put boots on we head out “scouting”!
Up on the canyon rim it doesn’t take long to spot a band of sheep bedded near water, about 30 in all with 5 mature Rams. Out comes the scope and we see One is a Cranker, bigger than anything I saw last year. We decide to make a move!
You deserve a "quick" one! :)
Takes us about an hour to get into position, leaving only an hour of light left. We can’t spot the Cranker at first, but as the Sheep begin to rise off their beds we see him. Laying in the middle of the herd in all his glory! I’m only 36 yards from him, waiting for him to stand!
When he stands of coarseca “banana-horn” gets in front of him and when he clears there’s another mature Ram behind him. I wait! Finally he’s clear and as I draw he begins to walk and quarter slightly away, I pick the spot and release. Arrow hits right where it should but I’m surprised at the lack of penetration. Still I’m confident of the shot!
The Sheep run uphill but two Rams come down out of the bunch, One is mine, I really thought he’d be down by now. Were are all in a little shock, no One wants to think that it may not be a fatal wound but man that Ram was moving out. After not finding much blood, losing light fast and knowing the arrow was in the chest cavity, we decide to get on him right away!
Slowly moving forward, easing around cedars we creep. We bump him about 200 yards in the cedars, he’s gone 1/2 mile in all. He’s sick and dying but I put another or two arrows in him prior to him falling into a creek bottom!!! Yes I have my Ram(s)!
What a write up that is so Awsome buddy
Congratulations Tim! 4 with a bow is a heck of an accomplishment.
Thanks everyone! It’s srill sinking in!!!
Congratulations Tim on a tremendous accomplishment! You deserve it man.
William Faulkner stated December 10, 1950 when he was accepting the Nobel Prize for Literature in Stockholm, Sweden, "I believe that man will not merely endure, he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he is alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance."
I believe that 67 years ago, William Faulkner had the future Tim Metcalf on his mind. William Faulkner's words perfectly describe you and your sheep hunting adventures.
You not only endured, but you prevailed. Congrats on a great ram, but also a Great Sheep Slam. Bravo !!!!
Tim, You look a little tired in some of those photos!! If one of your new pizza toppings includes Sheep backstraps, I'll be heading south....
Lol Jake!! If you come down we’ll create one! Greg you’re too kind in your praise! Thanks again everyone!
Congrats again Tim! Huge accomplishment and just blessed to be apart of it! I vouch for the shot on ram I never would have thought he would have made it 100 yds but things happen that's hard to describe at times. We stuck with it and you got the job done!!
Congrats, Tim! Big congratulations!

Brother, that is just amazing. Very happy for you and your goal. Man I feel a road trip to Lafayette this summer. Congrats!
Really cool. Sheep are amazing animals. I've never hunted them, but seen some giants in Alberta near a mine. Incredible to watch them.

Awesome! Congratulations Tim! Thanks for sharing! Mike
Congratulations, Tim! Well done.
Tim, Tim, Tim, what a great story and great success after all of the ups and downs. "if it was easy, everyone would do it".
We could have used your pizza making skills the other night at our 6 man get together. Had to buy pre-made ones from King Sooper, but the bottle of Crown Royal helped in the digestion. Ram meat Pizza? Add some pineapple topping, extra cheese, Might be interesting. my best, Paul
One heck of a roller coaster ride!! Good things come to those that just suck it up, buck up, and get back to the job at hand. All successful hunters know that the mental challenge is just as great as the physical challenge and they often hit at different times. Sheep will trigger both at once! Congratulations on a great accomplishment!! Living (hunting) large, one slice at a time.
Good for you Tim but you ruined quite a few worthy hero shots with that rag on your head. ;)
Owl, LOL! You gotta learn to love them Saints! Who Dat!
Sorry, couldn't resist. lol
Outstanding accomplishments on genus Ovis, sir.
What an accomplishment. The next thing comes to my mind Tim is some of the best meals were had after the hunt. Argali, Marco Polos???
I was in a ground blind hunting deer and Tim messaged me he scored. I really wanted to get on a plane and go give him a man hung. What an accomplishment!
