Any day one sees critters in the woods is a good day. A fox just strolled by placing the squirrel community on high alert. 20 yards to NNW from my stand. No dinner here for the fox.

Ahh ... turn the phone 90 degrees clockwise. A hawk just flew by chasing squirrels for dinner. The bird is now perched 80 feet up in a tree behind me, NNE.

All I need is a deer to stroll by. I will send an arrow as a greeting. Temperature is dropping by the minute. The air is crisp. Very light NNE breeze makes is easy to hear faint sounds.

Down to the last 30 minutes. I am squinting my eyes hard per advice above but I still do not see deer.

Done for today. I joined the hawk and the fox for dinner. No squirrels were harmed during this hunt. Deer did not show up for the date.

I do not know why everyone insists on either squinting or covering my eyes. If I do that how am I going to see the deer coming? Did you ever see the eyes of a nocturnal creature? They are BIG which helps to gather more light. That is how you see in the dark.
