Last Wednesday night I watched Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. From my hotel room in Greensboro I was hanging on every word and praying for her to hit a home run. Sarah didn’t need my prayers. She hit it out of the park and solidified her image as a smart, tough, gun-toting, moose-hunting mom of five. But not only was this a much needed hit for Republicans, this was a grand slam for sportsmen.
Now, I am a self-admitted political junky. I am a conservative who typically votes republican. And I wasn’t entirely thrilled with McCain before last Friday. That’s all changed now with Palin. My admiration of Palin started months before she ever showed up on McCain's short list when she sued the USFWS for designating the Polar Bear as 'threatened' under the Endangered Species Act. A move that defied Bush himself who failed to oppose the ruling. And as more details came out about her politics and her life story I couldn't help but admire her spunk.
Palin’s image has become an overnight sensation for many reasons. But it is her hunting and pro-gun image that keeps coming up in the media. This image illustrates her as someone with a tough, independent, uncompromising spirit. I can relate and so can you. Let’s face it. With very few exceptions hunters are not ‘wussies’ nearly all of us are pretty tough. And I’m not even referring to the fact that we will be donning a 60lb pack and climbing 3000 feet to reach elk country – we are mentally tough, we are politically tough, and we don’t particularly associate well with the politically correct crowd that Obama hails from. I would bet my website that very few of you don’t dive for the remote the minute Richard Simmons makes a cameo and my guess is none of you watch The View.
The fact that McCain’s moose hunting VP is a woman is key. The liberal media will never understand a woman like her. She’s an enigma to phony elite losers like Andrea Mitchell and her fellow female colleagues like Keith Olbermann and Wolf Blitzer. The fact that they are doing their best to eviscerate her is proof positive of how threatened they are by a woman who's not afraid to expose them as shallow role models and cosmopolitan snobs. Let's face it, Olbermann is far more likely to sport a Prada handbag than Predator Camo. And if he ever stepped foot on the North Slope he’d pass away from anxiety as soon as the first skeeter pierced his lotioned skin. Deep down inside Keith knows Sarah would have him quartered up and packed back to the DeHaviland Beaver and that may be at the root of his rage - but I digress…
Lots of guys hunt, but few women do. And as women look to Palin with admiration for other reasons there is almost no downside to hunting. One of the first rules of advertising is to attach a brand to a positive emotion. It is the reason why athletes get huge bucks from Nike since every time they win a game their hysterical fans attach to the brand. Same thing with Sarah only this time the brand is hunting. As women across the country relate to her struggle to overcome a sexist media and exhibit what a ‘real’ US mom looks like, they positively attach hunting to that image and begin to look at it in a new light. Score one for the good guys!
Of course, there is a risk to us as well; if she’s discovered to be running a Meth lab in her Juneau basement or a Paris Hilton like tape shows up on the net, that will probably not help us. But outside of a complete meltdown I’m comfortable stating that her image is exponentially more appealing than John Kerry and his lame attempt at goose hunting and most certainly Dick Cheney shooting his lawyer buddy in the face. At least this chick can kill critters! And as mom's across the US embrace Palin for her pioneering spirit, Ingrid Newkirk's hemorrhoids are massively flaring from the stress of it - somehow that brings a sinister smile to my face.
We need more women to enjoy hunting, or at a minimum support it. Palin may be the most important step I’ve seen to that end. She’s done more to promote hunting in one week than the NRA could do in a year. And if she proves to be the catalyst that defeats Obama, expect more women to look up to her as a leader and role model. One thing is for certain, she has a future in the Republican party and even if McCain loses (Gulp) we haven’t heard the last of her. Godspeed McCain-Palin. You have my complete support as a conservative, a republican, and most importantly a passionate hunter.

McCain made one of the most brilliant political moves in the History of our Great Nation.
Sarah Palin is an outsider and far removed from the egomania raging within the Beltway.
She's tough and I feel she hearkens back to an era of womanhood that our country has forgotten. The tough, female, pioneer spirit that helped blaze the trail and settle our country.
Loving mom who graciously accepts her healthy children and her special needs child (I can relate there).
She doesn't owe anybody anything. No one has paid her way to get where she is. She's EXACTLY what this country needs.
I'm sick of lawyers, lobbyist, and people who seek to rule over us versus serving their Country. She's practical, purpose driven, and has no quit in her.
I wasn't going to vote for McCain, now I can vote for Palin and humbly say to McCain you deserve to be President.
If you do not agree, you do not value hunting, fishing, trapping, etc... Or you are blind to the damage that liberals WILL do to hunting, fishing, trapping, etc... rights that we currently enjoy. One thing is for sure- she would hunt wolves! That alone says enough for me.
I live in Wasilla and its hard to get use to seeing her and her family all over TV! She could really accomplish alot of great things for this country if she gets the chance.
She is a bit conservative for my tastes, but on balance I am glad to have her on the ticket. She balances out McCain well and most definately supposrt our cause.
Flame away, she's a power trippin' control freak of a mamma...& being a north slope working wife...hehehe I betcha it didn't take long for the National Enquirer to find dirt on her...
McCain could have picked a WAAY better running mate than her, & I don't know why McCain didn't beat bush jr.....
A book banning smiley faced ego maniac. When they get done tearing up the other half of the U.S.Constitution and write it to their liking we will all end up speaking Chinese to hold our jobs to pay off the trillions of dollars borrowed from China. She is nothing but a smoke screen. I want to vomit from her snickering remarks about community leadership and organization.
Yupik.... Where have you been mon? Let me make one thing clear to snide innuendo of Sarah Palin, she not only has credential, she has guts, fortitude, creativity and vision. As for dirt, the only dirt found around Sarah Palin will be used to BURY her detractors.
This lady is ready to run, and though many are trying to ask about her readiness, being a heartbeat away from the presidency, she has more executive experience than does Obama, and one should really be asking about his readiness to lead the country. Sarah Palin has stepped up at every challenge and has delivered with confidence and conviction.
For Sarah Palin to have made the journey from PTA through Mayor, to finally Governor of Alaska shows she's accomplished herself along the way. She has by all accounts made those transitions smoothly and hit the floors on the run.
Sarah Palin grasps the job because she has vision and street smarts. Is she ready for that heartbeat? Without question.
So far I have to agree. If Sara is agressive and "power tripping" so be it. We haven't had a strong LEADER in the White House since Ronald. Obama will be another butt kisser.
Well said Pat and I agree whole heartedly. We are copping your U.S. election campaign here in Australia every day blow by blow. Most Aussies probably don't really care who wins- they just want it over:) But the hunters do care- we are a very small minority who could lose everything very quickly by democratic process. Anyone who can help Joe (or Joanne) Public to see hunting in a better light is welcome! Sarah even looks good- damn shame about that voice though- makes my sphincter pucker:) Jay (InOz).
OK, so "NOW" sportsmen (and sportswomen) have a ticket they can feel good about voting for....and it happens to be the Republican ticket. Exactly where is the big surprise there? Somebody will need to help me with this, but when was the last time the NRA backed a Democratic Presidential ticket?
I don't want to see O'bama in D.C. any more than the rest of you. I also don't believe for one minute that McCain chose Palin because he thought she was the best choice for VP. This bold move was quite simply a strategy.
McCain's age has been a concern. His health has been a concern. IMO, he needed a running mate that the general population could envision running this country. I don't think he even came close. I could be wrong.....
Eloquently put Pat! Honestly, at first McCain's choice of Palin left me scratching my head. Being an Eastener, I just didn't know that much about her and I too, am a political junkie. I just finished watching her acceptance speech for the second time. I can now say with certainty that his choice was genius.
"Agree or Disagree that Sarah Palin is helping hunters?"
Yes, I believe she (or he) would side on most issues affecting outdoorsmen/women and help us.
On a macro thought.....my concern (and unknown) is what issues might a McCain/Palin ticket compromise on that could affect outdoors folks. Maybe a better way to phrase it, what issues will these self-discribed "mavericks" compromise on to demonstrate their "bipartisanship"?
It is amazing to me that they keep talking about how she won't be able to handle the job with having 5 kids. One is on hhis way to Iraq, and the second will soon be getting married. Sure she has a special need baby, and that will take consideration. But could you imagine the furor if anybody said anything like that about a Democrat?
We have a real woman running here, alongside a real war hero. Let's support them.
I agree that she has stamina, courage and yes, a little "Brass". Liked what she had to say and she conducted herself. McCain made a good choice, however, my concern is that it may be "to little to late." The media already seems to be on O'Bama,s side and they have a tremendous amount of influence, like it or not. lareva
Being registered "Non-Partisan" it's great to see someone up for office that isn't of the same tired retoric 'groomed for' bunch that has permeated our government for far to long. Our country desperately needs some new blood in office.
It comes as a breath of fresh air to see someone like Palin in the race, who most ordinary people, especially sportsmen and women, can directly relate to.
It'll be morbidly interesting to observe the depths to which the Brokaw-type crowd of socialist media elites will sink to discredit and hurt her.
although it may have been a good thing for sportsmen & sportswomen alike, it is not a wise choice for our nation. McCain is aging, and althought he has the credentials to govern, his VP pick does not. She ran a small 'town' government in podunk Alaska. yes she's into hunting, fishing & trapping and that's great for all of us who enjoy the outdoors. However, when did a VP change things for the country / government? the VP is there incase the Pres. dies and w/ McCain it could happen at any moment. Then we have a person in office w/ no credentials, no clout, and no clue. Some of you tout the fact that she is an "outsider". well, friends, in Washington you can't get things done if you aren't "in" with the right people. Let's face the facts. McCain wanted to grab up some, if not all, of the Clinton Supporters who won't back Obama. so he picked a woman, a mom. the women who wanted Clinton because she was a woman now have another to vote for. coincidence? politics are a tough thing for me. i am an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking & camping. I have two young children and would like to teach them the greatness of the outdoors. so a republican pro-sporting ticket seems the way to go. but because i do not make $200K/year the republican machine and their plan for tax breaks doesn't benifit me, your average middle class joe. i believe in universal healthcare, not universal health in$urance. and i think our children need better/more affordable education at all levels. those issues are more in the forefront for the Dems. But the Dems want to restrict our outdoor activities. Catch22. so i will do what i have done for years. I will thumb my nose at both the Democrats & Republicans and vote Libertarian. Less government, less laws(restrictions), less taxes.
ps I stopped supporting the NRA when they started pushing to keep fully automatic rifles in the hands of joe public.
I consider myself a TR (Teddy Roosevelt) republican, and haven't been happy with the party of late. I think Sarah beats the Democrats on corruption and conservation, and brings the party back to where I would like to see it.
Is she good for hunters? You bet. But more importantly, she is good for the Country.
Great choice by McCain. She has made the ticket worth voting for. My wife is very impressed as well, which is difficult to do when it comes to politics.
I like her. I dont agree with all of McCain or Palins views - but I do believe both are good folks. Palin's addition to me was a total surprise but a great move.
That said, I'm still writting in Ron Paul - much more in line with the constitution overall in my opinion.
Anybody that is for sportsman (man or woman) is a good choice. But with that being said if you have to pick a lesser of two evils I would have to go with McCAIN\PALIN, what other choice do we have?
She might hunt/fish and be a hockey mom but that hardly qualifies her to be vice-president.I'm a dyed in the wool republican who will be voting for Obama this year. The last eight years have been a disaster and we need a REAL change. This is a bowhunting site-why are we even discussing this?
I agree, and not because she's a babe. I also believe it's time more women got into politics. They are naturals. They already are really accomplished at spending money othe people work hard to make, and most of them wouldn't know the truth it it jumped up and bit 'em in the @$$
We do have a few here that are heavy into coolaid where the the likes of Sarah Palin must be causing severe heartburn. I still can't believe our good fortune having her as McCain's running mate. I liked her answer when asked what was her favorite hobby. "Hunting."
I think the fact that she's a women, an attractive woman at that, is a nice bonus. I would be delighted with a male canadate who demonstrates the values and leadership she does. I think we've been waiting a long time for someone like her.
(Rxbob, I just jumped over from the leatherwall because whiners like you always fire out the same complaint - Always after they have said thier piece, sometimes several times. I was told this was where to go. Maybe it's time we start telling people like you where to go.)
I have been a McCain fan from day one, for fiscal reasons. I just hope that a Vice-President Palin will not just pay lip service to hunters, but take a stand for the Roosevelt branch of the republican party and find creative ways to provide more land for hunting and fishing. Hunting in most of the country will die a slow death if ways aren't found to get people access. My nightmare is a european style system of hunting/fishing where everything is pay alot to play, to me this is the pre-eminent issue facing sportsman.
I agree but remember it doesn't stop with a vote. All of us need to be active writing and calling our senators and congressmen/women on issues that affect us and you are passionate about. That is if you want real change.
Sarah Palin’s nomination is good for sportsmen and good for the country. She’s good for women’s rights and real equality, not the liberalism peddled by organizations like NOW.
Sarah Palin scares the daylights out of all liberals and most democrats, as evidenced by the unprecedented smear campaign that started immediately upon her nomination.
Remember Robert Bork ! When a conservative scares the liberals enough, they will stop at nothing to discredit them. Public perception of Sarah Palin is possibly the one thing that stands between McCain and the Whitehouse.
We must stand strong. Make the point over and over;
#1 Sarah Palin has more experience than Barak Obama, and more common sense than Joe Biden.
#2 All of the cheap attacks and personal smears are just that, they have no basis in fact and are not relevant.
I agree that she helps hunters - it never hurts to have a smart, attractive woman stand up for hunting. That said, I do not think she will bring in very many votes for McCain that were not headed that direction.
This is HunterJoe's wife writing -- all of you who agree, YOU ROCK. Although I am not a hunter, I do love to fish -- something my Dad taught me (thank you Dad). Those few of you who disagree, may I suggest that you educate yourselves on Sarah Palin's accomplishments from the PTA, to the Wasilla City Council, to the Mayoral Office, then to the Governor's office. I have heard it said that the Alaskan landscape is littered with the bodies of those who were corrupt and dared cross her path, no matter what political party to which they belonged.
At least Sarah Palin knows where her food comes from. She's had some dirt and blood underneath her fingernails. She believes what she views as right and does the right thing. I admire her for that and much more.
Obama is NOT qualified for the Oval Office. If you believe that his tax increases will make life better for you, you've got another thing coming.
I'm out of here. I'm off to Sterling Heights, Michigan for the ROAD TO VICTORY rally this afternoon. My husband supports me as much as Todd Palin supports his wife. As a working mother of three I, LIKE MANY WOMEN, CAN IDENTIFY WITH SARAH PALIN. I can certainly bait my own hook!

I think she may bring hunting to the spot light a little more. People will still have there opinions, she might change a few soccer moms views on hunting. She seems to be a very strong woman, that I hope lots of young women will look up to.
A fellow put it very plain when interviewed yesterday in St. Paul...more people are riding the trains at this second in Chicago than she's governed. First for the "bridge to no where" then against. Apparently they got the money anyway and spent it on other things. She is said to have wanted to ban books from the library. Too much baggage for me....

I'm thrilled beyond description.
Sarah Palin is everything Obama and his elitist establishment supporters are not. She's authhentic, genuine, knows who she is and what she believes, and couldn't care less what the elitists think of her. As Michael Reagan wrote yesterday, his father is back, only now he hunts moose and wears skirts.
110% agree !! She has the Lib's/Dems turned upside down and green with envy...Obama must be kicking him self right now for not bringing on Hillary. It is very unfortunate that there are still those hunting Dems that refuse to see the threat to our lifestyle (Outdoors/Guns/Bows,God,Family)that comes from the left and Obama and Biden are two of the most ardent anti-gun Dems out there. Now, Combine that with a Dem controlled congress and we can get screwed big time. McCain/Palin '08 !!....Jeff
Let me say this first. I am a Democrate who feels the last 8 years have been terrible for us. With that said i can not bring my self to vote for Obama even though we need a domocrate in DC at this point. It might be very shallow of me but putting a Man (not just because he is black) with a muslim upbringing into the White House after 9/11 is not something i can do. Badjuju above mentions McCains age and how he could pass at any moment leaving Palin to run the country. I believe that shoe can go on the other foot as well leaving Joe to run a country that will be headed for a civil war if something was to happen to Obama. Go McCain & Palin
She is a bold choice, I voted agree, but am somewhat on the fence with her.
She is NOT qualified to be president, no foreign experience, no big world experience except 2 years as govenor of Alaska. all that said, you can and should say the same about Obama, 2 years as senator.
Obama countered his lack of experience with his VP pick, however this also countered his desire for change, he took a long time insider.
McCain needed a Maverick pick to offset from Obama's old school pick. He did a good job picking her. An unknown.
Obama can't challenge her experience without bringing up his own. Somehow Obama is now in response/defend mode rather than attack mode. He is having his experience and qualifications to be president compared to the VP slot on the other ticket! this is a BRIALLIANT move by McCain.

She has more practicle experiance than Obama and she is on our side. Yes, she will make a fine VP and after being mentored by McCain, she will make a great President. I don't know how long McCain will be able to handle the pressures of the office, one or 2 terms, but Palin will be more than ready to take over and I think she will do a great job. McCain/Palin.
Bob, your "agree" turns into a "disagree" when you explain. IMO any VP MUST be qualified to be theCommander in Chief and pres. Because they could easily become, it's happened several times through history.
BUT, IMO Ms Palin IS qualified to lead. Anyne who can govern the state of Alaska competently, can govern the U.S. (and yes, I believe she has goverened AK well.) BTW, I apologize for my tongue in cheek comments in my first post above. They were in jest, and the jest was in poor taste)
Great for hunters and great for the country. Experience is what we don't need in Washington. You think she won't have experienced and qualified advisors? You think she won't get good advice from a highly educated and experienced cabinet? No president in the last 50 years has even taken a dump without consulting 4 advisors on charmin or quilted northern for less clingers.
Sarah is your normal, everyday person with great vision for our country. She identifies with what the populace of american wants and needs. She not in the back pocket of lobbyists or Washington insiders who she owes favors for whatever backdoor thing they did for her.
All the left has is a flip-flop on a bridge. One that was fiscally not possible after funding was pulled. Why would you continue to support a dead-end project when there's so many more things to do for your state.
She was a great pick, she's a good person, and she'll be good for the country.
Everyone seems to want to compare the qualifications of the GOP VP candidate with the Dem Presidential candidate. I don't think that's a debate the Dem's want to get into, but they have no choice. Because to compare the qualifications of McCain with Obama is like comparing Eisenhower to Jimmy Carter.
Palin ran the government of a small town, she runs the government of AK with 15,000 state employees, a dozen or so cabinet agencies, and a 10 billion dollar budget. She makes chief executive decisions and leads the AK National Guard. She was the chairman of the AK oil and gas commission. She hunts, she fishes, and she shoots...well!
Obama by comparison has been a "community organizer" WTH that is? He has partnered several pieces of legislation in his short term as a junior senator...most of which has been spent campaigning. He has never ran a government, an agency or a miltary unit and has never had executive level responsibility.
Thank you for this breath of fresh air! I had been in CT visiting my little sister when McCain introduced Palin as his veep and the news was a shot in the arm that I really needed. After arguing with my sisters in-laws over the (de)merits of Nobama and then listening to the same rhetoric for over five hours in the airport, I felt like this nation was doomed. Are there really sportsmen here who would even consider voting for Obama? That just totally confuses me.
Yep, Sarah Palin is what this country needs and after watching the RNC the past few nights, I sure hope we get it!!!
-Cheryl and Matt (and Sage too, if she could vote)
Great Thread Pat !!!! To the pinko's who disagree. Some of you profess to be REPUBLICANS, I say I don,t beleve you. You sound much more like the winney, liberal, treehuggers that seek to distroy the very fabric that has made this country so GREAT.
Strongly agree. I didn't pay much attention to this race before this week. Obama scares the crap out of me, and I would have voted for McCain just to vote against Obama.
But now, I have someone to vote for. Go Saracuda!!!!
By the way, unless something really nasty comes about, Palin has my vote for president in 2012 or 2016. She would kick the everloving crap out of Billary
From Arizona, a registered Independent turned Republican, a lifetime bow hunter, a parent, a grand parent, and very excited for the first time in my 65 years!
What a breath of fresh air. I would like to see how she handles things and maybe run for the BIG job herself in 4 or 8 years, but maybe I am getting ahead of myself.
I think she's a breath of fresh air. While I don't agree with everything she believes, Choice vs Right to Life for one, I do respect her. She has an amazing abibility to connect with the average person. By average, I mean the folks who are saddled between the two coasts. My wife is very non political. She listened to the speach the other night and for the first time in the past 24 years she commented, "Finally, someone who is normal!" While some may question Palin's credentials, that concern pales in comparison to Obama's lack of substance. She has shown that she is willing to tackle the status quo, take on the entrenched politicians, and do the right thing. Obama, in contrast, has shown none of these traits. In one night, Sarah Palin has forged a bond with the American people. She has acomplished what every other politician only dreams of doing. The impact this will have on those of us who hunt and fish can only be positive. Palin has shown the non-hunting public that we are far from being the club wielding neanderthals that the mainstream press would like you to believe. Instead she has shown, that like Palin, the vast majority of hunters are hard working, community oriented folks that love their country, provide for their families, and want the best from their representatives. Today is a good day!
Prior to the last few months I have disliked McCain probably more than anyone in the Republican party. I feel he never missed a chance to jab a stick in the eye of Repubs and especially Bush. I continued to say for the first time in my life that I would not vote because I had absolutely no one to vote for. Now, I will take a full helpin' of CROW!!! I am voting McCain/Palin and my vote is 100% due to Palin. Serve it up....
The Lib's would be best off just leaving her alone. It's a no-win situation for them. Attack her and they risk a backlash from women from both sides of the aisle. I hope she and John McCain shake up Washington. God knows we need things to get moving again!
Not only is she bringing a fresh new look to the political world she is a very relateable person in the eye of the majority of americans. I keep reading that some bloggers don't think that she is "Qualified" to be a VP. Tell me something, what would qualify her for this position? Maybe if she was a plagerizer that lies on her resume about received awards when there were none. Yes, this is the actions of our other VP candidate. Does this make him more qualified the her. As there have already been an assasin plan formed during the DNC which was gratfully broken up by the Denver police and the FBI it does poses an important question, What if Barack was assainated? Do you REALLY want Joe Biden to take the reins of this country and lead us into a bliss of lies?
I think a "leader" can lead in any situation they find themselves in...she is a natural leader.
I want to give credit to the people who pushed mccain to support her becasue mccain wanted someone else. it was a bold strategic move that stopped the momentum for the democrats and gave the nation, and the media something else to talk about.
before this past week i didnt think mccain had a chance and was even thinking about jumping the fence and voting for a democrat, Palin has made me re-think the presidential race...as she has made the whole country re-think the race.
she hunts, she fishs, she leads, she governs, shes a strong mom, a good wife....and she is HOT...i like her.

Seriously, bring on the debates and I can't wait for November when all of America will get to witness true "CHANGE", rather than hear it mentioned as a coin-phrase from a do-nothing empty suit with an agenda up his sleeve!
"60lb pack and climbing 3000 feet to reach elk country "
ah come on pat, when will you be doing this on one of your private land hunts???? im intrigued and entertained by your writings, but ya cant have it both ways..... dont become like the rest of the writers when they hunt private land now they become the biggest baddest smartest hunter alive. keep doing what your doing.
He could not have made a better choice! To those above that don't think she is capable of leading what in the world makes you think Obama is. He reminds me of Joel Olsteen. Talks alot, sounds good, says nothing of substance. I would be careful of what "Real Change" may mean. You may not be as bad off as you think you are!

I love it! Palin is a breath of fresh air, and you guys who are bitching about her lack of experience are not paying attention. I can't wait to see her debate Biden.
The Dems blow a lot of smoke. I've heard the wind blow before like two years ago when they promised to lower gas prices if they got control of the senate and house. Well gas prise are higher than ever now two years later. I'll step down now ;0)
I think she's an excellent choice and certainly far more qualified to be President if necessary than Obama.Newt Gingrich put it best when he laid into a reporter who asked him about her lack of experience at the convention. He said he was sick and tired of all the liberal mainstream media bias trying to make her appear inexperienced. He then recounted all she's done and ended by asking the reporter if he could tell him what Obama has done. The stunned reporter couldn't think of a single thing to say in response and quickly walked away.Go team!!!
She is a great pick for VP. People that have no interst in politics are starting to pay attention now. That is exactly what we needed. I am betting she will get big coverage whenever she speaks. Hopefully she seizes the time to explain to America that Obama wants us to become Socialists. He will govern like he is President of the World, not POTUS. There is a huge difference! Like McCain, Palin will put country first! I especially loved the line about how she is always proud of her country.
Sarah has been good for Alaska. She will be good for the country.
She is the first REAL hunter to be destined for the White House in a long time. That, combined with her obvious popularity, will mean that she is good for hunters and hunting.
The whining, sniveling, and dirt-digging on the other side, combined with the tendancy to claim that Obama is experienced while conveniently ignoring Sarah's tenure as a skilled and sucessful executive are, plain and simple, a measure of how worried her appearance on the national scene makes the liberal Democrat establishent.
You asked "This is a bowhunting site-why are we even discussing this" The answer is VERY SIMPLE. If you or anyone else vote for OBAMA. In 8 years you will not be bowhunting any longer!!!!!
Someone else asked why has the NRA never supported a Democratical president. The answer is SIMPLE MOST Dems want to ban gun ownership and hunting!
GET THIS IN YOUR HEADS. IF YOUR VOTE DEMOCRATIC YOU WILL EVENTUALLY LOSS THE RIGHT TO HUNT!!!!
DEMOCRAT = NO HUNTING DEMOCRAT = NO GUNS DEMOCRAT = NO BOWS
To all the people who feel that she does not have enough qualifications to be VP or run the country if something would happen to McCain. Here is a newsflash, Obama has less and he's running for President.
I think she is just what this country needs. I hope we elect her and I hope John McCain lets her do and speak a lot. She is a breath of fresh air to a country that has a stagnant morale!!!!!
I have never watched any convention coverage but I did watch her speech. I was very impressed. When Obambi loses this election, the Dem base will once again, be left scratching their collective heads wondering what just happened to them. Can't wait to see Palin and Pepperoni eyes butt heads.
Ok, so i am not impressed although i do like that she hunts and that her husband is a fisherman but that is not enough for me to vote for her. (yes i said her b/c she is the driving forece of the Republican (BUSH) party not mccain) These are a few reasons why i was not wowed by her speech:
1. her speech was largely written (by the same speech writers as Bush) before she was even selected only the proper names, personal pronouns and biographical information were changed.
2. She's anti-choice and anti-privacy as it pertains to the Fourth Amendmen
3. Gov. Sarah Palin is using the Alaska State Troopers as a "whipping boy" to try and cover up her misdeeds, the head of the troopers' union said Wednesday. The governor's lawyer has accused the troopers of turning a blind eye to an alleged rogue officer, Mike Wooten, who also is the governor's ex-brother-in-law.
"It is outrageous and disappointing that the governor would choose to make the Alaska State Troopers the whipping boy for her ethical lapse of judgment," said John Cyr, the executive director of the Public Safety Employees Association.
4. She wants to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and has sued to stop the federal government from making the polar bear an endangered species.
5. She has been supportive of some of Barack Obama's energy policies and opposed oil companies in the past. On Aug. 4, Sarah Palin was particularly enthusiastic about Obama's intentions to complete a natural gas pipeline in Alaska and to give families a $1,000 energy rebate. On the rebate, she said:
"This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board."
6. In May, Palin said she would sue the federal government after it declared polar bears an endangered species. Here's what the Anchorage Daily News reported:
She and other Alaska elected officials fear a listing will cripple oil and gas development in prime polar bear habitat off the state's northern and northwestern coasts...
Climate models that predict continued loss of sea ice, the main habitat of polar bears, during summers are unreliable, Palin said.
The announcement drew a strong response...
"She's either grossly misinformed or intentionally misleading, and both are unbecoming," said Kassie Siegel of the Center for Biological Diversity. ... "Even the Bush administration can't deny the reality of global warming," she said. "The governor is aligning herself and the state of Alaska with the most discredited, fringe, extreme viewpoints by denying this."
7. Denies that global warming is man-made. Global warming affects Alaska, but is not man-made. (Aug 2008)
8. In her first annual State of the Union address: she stated that she wanted to open the 19-million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling and other development. The refuge has been a federal protected area since the Eisenhower administration. Both Obama and Palin's new running mate have opposed the measure, although McCain has wavered (and did reverse his longtime opposition to offshore drilling this summer).
**Note: if this wildlife refuge is open what will stop the government from tapping into all our national and state refuges, forests, and parks?***
9. In Bristol Bay, home of the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world, Palin has supported miners on a project the fishermen say threatens their livelihood, as well as populations of bears and caribou. In 2007, Palin welcomed President Bush's lifting of a ban on oil and gas development in federal waters off the bay and the Aleutians Islands.
10. Sarah Palin experience consists of serving as mayor in a small (9,000 people) town (huge meth problems that have not changed) and less than two-years as governor
In that short time, she has come under investigation in a wrongful firing case involving her former sister's former husband.
11. McCain's choice, an obvious ploy to placate women voters, should make us all question his judgment.
12. believes creationism should be taught in schools as an alternative to evolution.
13. voted against women’s right to chose, voted against women’s right for equal pay
14. Opposes stem cell research. (Aug 2008)
15. Every baby is created with a future and potential. (Aug 2008) No child left behind (currently effecting the progress of non-handicaped students in schools nation wide)
16. Chooses life, even if her own daughter were raped. (Nov 2006)
17. Claimed major triumph: $500 million subsidy for gas pipeline. (Aug 2008) Gasline Inducement Act: 1,715-mile natural gas pipeline. (Aug 2008)
18. Commercialize Alaska's North Slope natural gas. (Aug Agrees with Obama on more Alaska oil & gas production. (Aug 2008)
19. Lift moratorium on offshore drilling. (Jul 2008) Convinced McCain to drill offshore; not yet on drilling ANWR. (Jul 2008)
20. Unlock ANWR; we're ready, willing and able to contribute. (Jun 2008) Convince the rest of the nation to open ANWR. (Jan 2007)
21. Fish platform: "Resource First" philosophy. (Nov 2006) Opposed protections for salmon from mining contamination. (Aug 2008)
22. Sue US government to stop listing polar bear as endangered. (Aug 2008)
IM NOT SAYING OBAMA IS GREAT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT I AM JUST SAYING THAT SHE IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR SPORTSMAN, NATURALISTS, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, CONSERVITIVES, Or PEOPLE THAT LIKE THAT SOME OF THIS WORLD IS PROTECTED UNDER LAW!!!!
I would love to hear other opinions from fellow hunters b/c there is so much BS out there and i want whats best for those who use the land and appreciate it non spoiled by those who are looking to save a buck.
Do I ever wish we had a lady like her up here in Canada. You boys count yourselves lucky to have the next 4 years with those 2 at the helm. Myself, I think Condelisa would have been a slam dunk for the Repulicans. This option is a close second, if not very equal.
She supports outdoorsmen, stands up for what's right and she's appealing to the eye. McCain needed to think outside the box and he truly has done that. God Bless the USA!
A vote for the Republican ticket this fall is a vote for yours and mine's way of life, the outdoors and hunting. If Obama get elected he will appoint a minimum of 2 supreme court judges, and if he gets a second term, possibly up to four. That would have us with a liberal Supreme vourt system and a Democrat controlled Congress and a democrat controlled White House. Are those who feel Obama needs to be in the White House quite blind to that fact? It WILL be a slow death blow to the life I love and live. A vote for Obama will be the start of the end of my way of life, and the way of life MOST of us on this site love. A vote for Obama is a vote FOR gun control, FOR PETA, and for the end of this way of life that most of us hold so dear.
Sarah Palin is qualified as anyone else on this planet, save for a previous president, to be in the position that she is in. It was a great choice made by McCain.
Totally Agree Pat.I can't help but laugh as I read the comments of her detractors. She's got the libs in such a tailspin, they don't whether to sh*t or go blind. And too boot,She is "ONE HOT MOMMA".
She does not come across as a politician but someone to kick some butt in DC. Its very difficult to deride a "genuine" person because she puts on no front to expose. She not only talks the talk but walks the walk. She is more Main Street than Wall Street. Notice the pictures of her that are circling around. Not photo ops but genuine stuff you would find in a scrap book. Anyone would feel comfortable sitting and talking to her. Most if not all would be a little on edge talking to Obama, Biden and even McCain. God Bless this breath of fresh air.
Hunting is a management tool and if anything is to go it will not be bow hunting, the democrats dont have it right either but that is why one person doesn't make the rules and laws. There are steps that are taken before anything actually changes in government (Please research how a bill can become a law and you will see how many people it takes in order for any change to take place) If we open ANWR what will stop the gov from opening up all our national parks, forests, preserves, and refuges to drilling, mining, and harvesting of all natural resouces b/c it is what the lobbiests want to keep the United States dependant on. This is a scary election b/c it is very superficial and both sides are playing the same change game.
100% agree. For the first time in several years I won't be choosing the lesser of two evils. Now I can really get behind a candidate and enthusiastically pull that lever.
I was voting for McCain until Palin was chosen. She may hunt and be for sportsman but I hardly believe she has the qualifications to be in the whitehouse. What a horrible choice for the Republican party. Now the Republican's have rounded out their "oil ticket".
I agree WisconsinDon. . . 23 good reasons TO vote FOR Palin. She doesn't let emotion get in her way, she makes coldly rational decisions. That's what we need.
At first I had my doubts about Governor Palin. I thought it should have been Romney. However, after hearing her speak at the RNC I am for the first time 100% behind the McCain ticket. She is awesome.
This is a joke, right? Or at least, that was my first response to the news that this 20-month governor and self-described "hockey Mom" was Sen McCain's choice of running mate. Then I started to get angry. It is disrespectful of the mighty job at hand (undoing the last 8 years) to put such a newbie in high office (I have the same complaint about Sen Obama); it is disingenuous to pick a woman as a running mate to try to win over the disaffected HRC voters--women are not interchangable pieces on the chess board; it is dangerous to place a fundamentalist like Gov. Palin in a high office--hasn't the George Bush/John Ashcroft agenda taught us anything about people who "know what's best" for everybody else and the politics of religious morality? You think because she comes from Alaska and knows her way around rifles and rods that she's going to help sports'men'?? Think again! This is a person who wouldn't mind paving over what's left of the wild places if it means a few bucks in the pockets of the powers that be. You know don't you that citizens of Alaska get dividends every year because of all the oil money that flows out of the state? IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY FOR THOSE ALREADY RICH AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!
I would vote for Richard Simmons before I'd vote for Obama. Don't like what McCain offered, that is until he made this choice. She is my age, good looking, likes to hunt, is not afraid to stand/speak out for what she believes in, and she is not part of the main stream political community that we have now. I would have voted for her to be the President.
Lets see my wife hunts and fishes I sincerely believe a mayor and govenor of a state that has land mass as large of over 20% of the lower 48 is much more experienced than a "community organizer" whatever that is.She or McCain has no Muslim ties I feel that is a plus. How can you attend a church with a preacher who openly preachs hate toward the white race and you say you never noticed it and then suddenly under pressure you leave the church after 20 years.Yeah I agree.
Palin & Mcain, they are the ticket we have needed for sometime. My wife and I subscribe to Alaska Magazine and several months ago on the front cover was a picture of Gov. Sarah Palin and the story of the hottest Gov. in the U.S. Her accopmplisments and the love for her family and the outdoors (hunting &fishing) she is a true warrior, just the person we need to fight for our hunting rights. The minute I heard that John Mcain chose her for his running mate they immidiately got our vote. This gale is no joke and it does not surprise me that fellow hunters in this country would dissagree, I'm sure Obama and Biden would love to go hunting with you as thier walking putting up closed to no Hunting signs.
Everybody talks about how Gov Palin is a very good looking woman, and that they are happy she's a hunter and "hockey mom". Jessica Simpson is easy on the eyes too, but I don't think I would want her running the country. McCain is grasping for the female vote, but I don't think this country can tolerate another 4 years of the current administration's policies.
I find it interesting that those detractors that say we are uninformed are the least informed. Obama will be a disaster if elected. His policies will definitely sink the economy. Domestic production of energy is THE issue of our time. If we do not get off the foreign energy our future is doomed. I don't think its the only answer but it is a part of the equation until we develop new technologies.
What a great choice...Not a washington insider. She will do a great job at taking on the Washington corruption. It is just the icing on the cake that she is a true conservative and a HUNTER and a SPORTSMAN...I will be contributing to the republican party for the first time.
Are you completely clueless. I know this is not the place to talk about Bush. But I have to at this point. Give me one example (just one) of something that was PRESIDENT BUSH'S SOLE DECISION, that is hurting us. Iraq? Nope that was a group decision by our complete government. Katrina? Nope that was god's decision. 9/11? nope that was Obama's - Oops I meant Bin Ladens decision. Enron? - Nope that was a stupid/greedy CEO. Housing market correction? Nope that was greaty home owners that wanted to beat the Jones and bought what they could not afford!
None of these situations were of Bush's making. And are not things ANYONE can fix. Not McCain, not Obama, not Ron Paul. They just happened! Its life, things happen. You and the media just need someone to blame.
There are towns larger than her state...this honeymoon will end quickly. There were so many other much more qualified to be his VP, this was a lame attempt at grabbing the female vote. Seriously, if McCain kicks the bucket can you see her running this country, no friggin' way...come on people.
I love the fact that those who disagree with Palin says she doesn't have the qualifications to be VP or run the country if something happened to McCain, remind me again of anything Obama has accomplished? How is he somehow more qualified to run the whitehouse oven Palin? So, you would rather have someone running our country that is more entrenched in special interest groups than someone who has no ties them?
Those of you out there that think Obama is a good choice need to get your pocket book and pen out to pay for your huge tax increases he will institute. Having government run healthcare is always a good idea too, just ask the euros and canadians that spend hours in line at the hospital in hopes that a doctor who has no motivation to see you will get around to it, that is if you have the hours to fill out the paperwork and the will to jump through government hoops and red tape.
The first three words of the Constitution of the United States sums it up "WE THE PEOPLE" were the ones to intended to run the country, yet Obama wants more government control, therefore taking less control from the people, yeah, really great choice. Our country is at a crossroads and we need someone we know will fight for us, McCain has and will continue to do so.
She has the highest approval rating of any governor b/c she has bribed the permanent residents. Nearly every Alaskan received a check for $1,654 (€1,183), their share of the state's oil riches, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced.
The dividend checks are derived from the state's oil royalty investment program and distributed each year to eligible residents — just for living there for a full calendar year.
I would love my governor too regardless of who they are if i got an additional $1654 a year for everyone in my house hold including kids just b/c some companies are stripping the natural resources from the state and shipping them who knows where.
Another Example Omya, the Swiss mining company privately-owned by Max Andre and Eric Schachenmann, one of the largest calcium carbonite mining co in the world Omya owns land in more than 20 Vermont towns. The marble vein in Vermont runs north to south, from Canada to Massachusetts. Omya's business depends on the purest, whitest marble, which they grind into small particles finer than dust. Omya's mineral extraction and processing in Vermont is part of a $4.3 billion dollar (in 1998) global industry that produces an estimated 15 million tons of industrial minerals. Paper, paint, and plastics dominate the market with 93% of the market. Currently Vermont Sees lttle money for there natural resources but the company is sure to leave the state after its depleated what they came for leaving Residents with numerous eye sores from strip mining, reported noxious odors that made them gag when they took a walk in the neighborhood, noise problems that kept them from sleeping at night, dust, white water discharges, concerns about the safety of drinking water, and more
If even some of that money went back to vermonters, you would have the same apporval rating for such distruction. Would that approval rating then be enough to qualify that gov. to be VP. I dont think so.
OK, I kinda agree. As I recall from reports, isn't Wooten, who shot his wife's Cow Moose, was given a slap on the wrist fine. He shared the meat with Palin, apparently she knew....wouldn't that be accessory to the crime? Correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure yet on her as a VP, want to see her on the VP debates........
OK I am done after this comment because you all have me worked up. WisconsinDon. That "bribe" is CALLED A BALANCED BUDGET AND A Surplus which should always go back to the people. Wow I really hope you don't vote. LOL I honestly am starting to think some of you can are only against her because she is a women!!! Because so far everyone that dislikes her is making crap up just because.
How does being an outdoors person qualify someone to lead the country? She was mayor of a very small town, very small. She hasnt even completed one term as governor. She is a very old heartbeat away from being the president, if they are succesful. Wake up people! We dont need Alaskas oil. We need something else other than oil. And all you Caribou hunters out there, Pat included, what would more drilling in Alaska do to the herd? What about keeping public lands public instead of privatizing them. Sportsman definitely dont need her or the rest of the GOP machine.
One thing is for sure, everyone that I have spoken to says that she will be able to relate to the middle class and working class of people , and that is something that has been missing from American polotics in Washington for along time. Even if she did not hunt, I thing she is a powerhouse that will shake up the status quo (sp?). Whether she be Republican or Democrat she will be getting a lot of votes, one from me. I think I have a crush on her already!!!!
I already posted without comment, then went back to read all the responses.
Those who question her ability to hold the high office don't seem to notice that she currently governs a state with more land-mass than any other state and a population on par with many small countries.
If that's a "lack of experience", then I guess I don't know the definition of the term.
I think it's just Big City liberals way of attacking someone they know they can't beat and knowing that if it's said, the lead-me-by-the-nose types will follow.
I am really disappointed in Mc Cain's choice here. I have heard too much from someone that works in Alaska State Government to think this is a good choice. This would be a non-issue if Mr. McCain was not 72 years old.
So she hunts. Lots of people hunt. Seems like everyting she wants to display herself on is for political reasons. She also says it is part of God's plan to have soldiers go to Iraq. WTF?? I am an Iraq vet and have no confidence in someone who believes that an American/human agenda is part of any higher being's plan. People who think this way are the same kinds of folks who think it is God's plan to hijack planes and kill innocent people.
WisconsinDon, now it is you whom are so greatly uninformed. The residents of Alaska have gotten virtually that same check every year since long before Gov. Palin took office. This year they got an additional $1200 per family (at least my cousins did)to help them with the oil crisis, both vehicle and heating. My guess is that you are grasping at straws and probably also will be the first person to belly ache about how much taxes you pay, despite wanting to vote for someone who will create huge social programs which will greatly increase your taxes.
Also Don, if you think bowhunting won't go away, just wait until most of our firearms are banned and we do not have the support of firearms hunters to help keep seasons in place with their vote. You think your lovely Illinois senator will look at bowhunting from our view point, or PETA's? Open your eyes, man. It truly scares me that people would even come this site and have any love for hunting at all and feel that voting for Obama is a good choice.
Palin has been the Mayor of a small Alaskan town...Obama has been a Community organizer that made $14k a year. Now that’s “experience”!! Palin has 20 months in as the Governor of Alaska, thus she has 20 months of administrational experience…Obama has been a State of IL legislator, and a US Senator, in which time he has not introduced one piece of legislation. But he’s a great orator. Palin will support lowering our taxes, support level-headed Supreme Court appointees, support and the “drill now” platform. Obama will want your guns, money, and would rather have wolves running around than give the States precedence of how to manage their own lands.
RxBob says he’s a “dyed in the wool Republican”, but he’s voting for Obama. LOL…what an absolute joke! Obama is anti-gun, anti-energy, anti-sportsman, and anti-religion. However, he is pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, and supports radical ministers…
TSK TSK To Missing Strands Work. No personal attacks, please--I am far from "clueless". It is impossible to think about who will be the next leaders of this country w/o looking at the last bunch and the damage done by their arrogant and self-righteous decision making. George Bush, as President, bears the direct responsibility for those decisions. Republicans, themselves, try to distance from the Bush presidency. Who's clueless?
Honestly, I am more of a republican than anything, i am a conservitive. I am just feed up with the governments corruption and crazy spending on things that dont impact the american people directly. (Mars, Iraq, etc..) I believe in base line equality for all, not total equality in every way but i do believe that all citizens need to be protected by those who look to take advatage. I think everyone should have the right if they can afford it to go and get the help where ever they want, when ever they want.
I wish that instead of this two party system we have in place, there should be representitives from both parties leading our country. If we were able to put together a ticket that included nominations from both parties there could be ongoing debates about how our counrty is run throughout there term instead of letting one man or woman's appointments (staff)and lobbiests from either party control our countrys future. Something has to change!!!!
I know that what can be done in one or two terms can change as the country changes, americans see a problem and if one way doesn't work they will go with the other way the next time they have to vote. it is going to be hard to undo 12-16 years of similar government, where as if change doesn't happen in 4 years the american people will go back to a republican reformer like mccain if he is still alive.
I don't believe Obama is qualified or the answer either, both parties are not putting there most qualified out there. This election is all messed up with propganda and similar messages to confuse the american public about what is the best choice.
Have either of you looked at the area of ANWAR where the drilling is proposed? It is a barren wastland that resembles Saltflats more than Forest. The area is a pimple on the shoreline of the refuge. I agree that we do need an alternative to oil, but how long is that going to take. How long are you willing to pay $4.00/gallon of gas from the radical middle eastern countries? If you choose to have Hussein Obama in office we will continue to buy fuels from those same radical countries that whole heartedly support him as well. He will continue to shut down our OWN Production of fuels that we need until we find an alternative. How long will it be? All you brain washed Change Junkies think it can happen overnight. Think about it.
Again, any of you who say she is not qualified, PLEASE, tell me the qualifications of Obama. You can't that is why, he hasn't done anything!
Those of you who question her qualifications don't realize that by saying you want some who has more qualifications is also saying at the same time you would rather have someone in the whitehouse that has been in the "machine" as you describe for years and years. You would rather have someone like Obama who is backed by special interest groups than someone who isn't and has fresh ideas, someone who doesn't care what some of those groups have to say and will stand up to them cuz she doesn't have to repay any debts to them. That makes a whole hell of a lot of sense, and your speaking out of both sides of your mouth.
Get someone in there with fresh ideas who is more like the average "blue collared" citizen of this country, someone who will actually fight for what we care about, THAT is why we care whether she is a sportman or not, cuz SHE will fight for us and our hunting rights. THAT is why this is posted on a bowhunting website, cuz it affects what we love and we need to elect those who will defend OUR rights to hunt. Obama could care less about our hunting rights, he's already stated as much.
Got news for everyone who says she doesn't have the experience. It isn't like Obama has tons of experience either. I like her because she seems like a normal person who hasn't been corrupted by washington like everyone else in politics. It would be nice to have someone who really cares about the people she is serving. And Wisconsin Don why would it be so bad to teach our kids about creationism (the truth)instead of the biggest lie of all time which is evolution. Some people need to study the facts before they complain. Not a huge fan of McCain but with Palin he gets my vote.
For you who disagree, that's your choice. It sounds like your more concerned about her lake of experiance to be a the President. SHE's NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! McCain is. Tru, she could be president if something happens to McCain (you sound like he's dead already) which hasn't happened very often. If your going to vote Dem. this fall, and your complaining about Her non-experiance, WHAT HAS OBAMA GOT FOR EXPERIANCE? and he is running for PRESIDENT???? He has no right to even be there. If your voting Democrat because they are the "party of the people" and that's what you were taught by parent's or unions or whatever, think of this, the Democratic party isn't made up of the idea's and thoughts of when it was the "party of the people". It is now run by the Far Left, anti-everything American, loony's, and I will never have anything to do with it. Any time they get someone close to being a good choice, that party shoots them down. They are a joke.
I'm pretty sure Wisconsin Don has now lost all credibility. I'm guessing he also has a Madison zip code. I don't understand how someone could be against the residents of Alaska receiving $1600 per year when Obama would create social programs giving much, much more to people who simply choose not to work. Open your eyes man and stop drinking the Obama kool-aid.
I agree that she is good for hunting and fishing, but she is awfully scary for the future of regular people and this countries future.
We should not quote any news services polls, CNN says women are leaving McCain in droves due to this pick, they can slant polls in favor of their views. I know FOX wouldn't, just the other guy.
The conservatives were proud the raised $1M after Palin was announced, well, the doms raised $10M following her speech!!
I think McCain threw away any chance he had with this choice. I am an ardent hunter and gun owner, but, I am selling guns to pay bills. The rich folks have gotten very much better over the last 8 years. Cindy McCain wore a pair of $280,000 earrings to the convention, is that the definition of elite or what!!
Politicians are not all the same but we all know this is a big game to them, I see that most of us on here have a good head on our shoulders. I believe the ones that disagree... their judgement is clouded, all they see is Bush when they Look at McCain & Palin and flock to something different...driven by fear, but they are not the same people. If you think that for one second that the war will end if Obama is elected you are really clueless as to what is really going on. I agree with Fred Thompson... "It is a breath of fresh air!"
Carbonarcher, very well said. How anyone that comes to this site could be for Obama also blows my mind. It just doesn't make any sense how you could be pro-hunting and be pro Obama too.
WisconsinDon, you just admitted that Obama is not qualified either, so why back someone who you or anyone else is this country knows anything about, who is in bed with anti-hunting and anti-gun groups? Why not vote for someone whom you at least we know has our backs? True, no candidate will ever be perfect, but McCain/Palin we know will be there to support us and defend our rights to hunting and other rights we have as citizens of this great country. Can you honestly say that about Obama?
Educate yourself people, don't listen to the liberal media and their lies, find out for yourself what these candidates stand for and who they are associated with.
Billhuntz, why is she scary for the future of regular people and this country's future? Please elaborate on that if you would. Is that something you heard on CNN?
Sure, I don't think Palin is ready to take over the presidency on day 1, but how can anyone who uses that argument against Palin ever support Obama instead???! The presidency is going to one of two people, McCain or Obama... and if being ready or experienced is being discussed, only McCain has those qualifications. Obama "sounds" like a leader, but he has never led.
Palin was likeable and spirited. She spoke about small town America to all of America. I was not sure what to make of her until that speech. Now I am a huge fan. I hope McCain survives a couple years to train her right, and then she will lead us well into the future. Next election if its Hillary versus Palin, there will be no contest!
I think it is funny that some of you disagree, She may not have the credentials to run this country but neither does Obama. Hell she has more balls than he ever thought about having.

Sarah Palin has more class and more experience in her short time than Obama could ever have in His Long Time!
Citizens with Full Auto Weapons....Our Right as Legal Law Abiding Citizens! (nuff said)
John McCain at 72...his life span?.....John Kennedy never lived that long! Obama's life span?....he may not live that long either.....WE don't have a choice in our life at to how long a life we do have!
BUT....Sarah Palin, with the cabinet and staff, can and would run America......better than Obama, because Obama will trash America and The People and Life will never be the same....it will be worse! Then people will have to cling to their guns and religion and a Great Civil War in America will errupt aginst government. The Free People of American Citizenship will not let Government take complete control of their lives.....Won't Happen!
Obama is a Muslim! (read his books) He is Racist and Hates America! He is crooked and can't be trusted. He has many 'brain washed' into following "Hail Bob the Comet" and it will lead to death of America and it's people!.....and His Followers will be The Problem too!
John McCain and Sarah Palin ARE "The Right Choice"!
CNN and other news media and some 'rag' magazines are The Problem Also! Obama supporters are trashing America by Supporting Obama is The Problem also.
It amazes me that Free Speech and Rights gained from Our Forefathers and The U.S.Constitution and Veterans, that "others" use THAT to Sabotage America the Nation and It's Free People!....'other'....legal citizens of our great nation that don't evidently like where they live and work and raise their kids. I have this to say:....If You Don't Like America The Way It Is and was founded on....God and Marriage between a man & a woman and Legal Citizenship and Protecting American Soil and It's Citizens, etc.........LEAVE!
His father is a muslim and he is backed by muslims in the middle east, that buddy is a fact. I wouldn't believe his book any more than I would believe his comments in person.
This is by far exactly what we need. A true American man taht has been there and done that. Backed by a true American hardworking woman that aint scared to get it done.
I don't know about you guys/gals here but I am setting here laid off of my job due to the economy, for high fuel costs (worked in transportation) We CAN'T go another 4 years with someone that voted 90% with Bush, I am a avid bowhunter and fisher. But we are in dire need.
McCain once stated middle class is over 5 million, well I am sorry I don't have as many houses like him, I am working my a$$ off to keep the one house I do have.
So who cares if Palin is a avid hunter and fisher, well so am I, I think she needs to step back and spend more time with her family, they clearly need it and less time trying to be something she isn't ready for.
Yes I know alot of people feel Obama doesn't have the experience to do the job, but if you stop and look at the economy, the experience sure didn't pay off...now did it?
She is FAR more qualified then obama and doesn't hang with unrepentant terrorists , American hating preachers, and do underhanded deals with felons.
I for one am better off then I was 8 years ago and most Americans are it just gets tilted by the driveby media who unabashedly want a socialist government run by barry junior.
I can't wait for the VP debates to see her clean bidons clock.
Although I do not support OBama, I still see the McCain camp for what it is.....and Sarah is just another smoke screen....and you guys are all too easy. And Hyde...we pay 4 bucks a gallon for domestic fuel now..our country charges us the going rate for crude...they post record profits...drillin in ANWR will cost billions, and we will pay through the nose for our countries explorations and technology. And once this door is swung open, nothing will prevent them from kicking us out of national forests and state lands so they can exploit the land there as well.....Its all about politicains/crooks with an agenda for the wealthy in America....middle Americans will continue to be the goats. R
WisconsinDon - the permanent dividend fund that goes out to all Alaskan residents is percentage of the profits of a five year average of oil revenue investments. The gov of AK does not determine the amount - so it's hard to call it a bribe. Unless you are uninformed. Living in Wasilla, and having the priviledge to have met the Palins, I am astounded by all the inaccurate information I have heard about the Palin family and alaska in the last few days.
"Obama is a Muslim! (read his books) He is Racist and Hates America! He is crooked and can't be trusted. He has many 'brain washed' into following "Hail Bob the Comet" and it will lead to death of America and it's people!.....and His Followers will be The Problem too!"
I think you better lay off the moonshine there good fella.
If you think that's the quote of the year, you obviously have never heard our current president talk.My four year old nephew says more intelligent things then Bush.
I hope to share a camp fire with the green post one day. I'll be voting for the American Hero and the moose hunter. What has the other guy ever done for his nation, or city, for that matter?
Initially, I didn't really like the choice of a woman for VP until I heard her speak and read about her record. I am not a big McCain fan but believe she will help balance out some of his deficiencies.
The most important issues of our day are Security, energy, and the economy and the Dems will destroy each if elected.
My hope is that this ticket of McCain/Palin will put Republicans back on track to reducing spending.
Passage of the energy package was the Legislature's second major action of the special session. On Aug. 1, lawmakers approved an exclusive natural gas pipeline license for TransCanada Corp.
Gov. Sarah Palin is almost certain to sign the bill to pay Alaskans the rebate.
It was Palin, after all, who last month proposed that lawmakers pay out a $1,200 resource rebate as a way for the state to share some of its multibillion-dollar oil revenue surplus with Alaska residents.
The idea for a people's payment, however, originated in January with Haines Republican Rep. Bill Thomas, a commercial fisherman who suggested a $1,000 rebate, saying he was moved by a legally blind and diabetic friend forced to cut firewood for lack of money to buy heating fuel.
The governor also asked lawmakers to temporarily suspend the state's motor fuel tax, which is 8 cents on a gallon of gasoline. The suspension, which legislators passed, also covers taxes on diesel and other fuels used by truckers, commercial fishermen and pilots.
The resource rebate will be tacked onto Alaska Permanent Fund dividend checks going out this fall.
This year's dividend already was expected to be a big one -- a record, in fact -- at more than $2,000. With the rebate added on, the check likely will tally more than $3,200.
The energy relief package also includes money to expand the state's Power Cost Equalization program, which provides electricity subsidies in rural areas where power costs are much higher than in the state's major city, Anchorage.
Many lawmakers fretted over distributing $1,200 in free cash to residents. Some questioned whether rich people should get it, whether it was good public policy in an election year, and whether some might use it not for energy but for a big-screen TV set. One lawmaker, Rep. Harry Crawford, D-Anchorage, suggested a good bit of the money might "go up people's noses."
But Meyer said he and other lawmakers figure individual Alaskans know better than government how to spend their money. And because the state is fat with cash, many lawmakers felt it was only right to share some with strapped Alaskans, he said.
Surely Alaskans are unique among Americans this year. In what other state will citizens collect the triple crown of a resource rebate, the Permanent Fund dividend and the federal economic stimulus payment?
Unemployment rate now 6.1%(highest in 5 years),billions of dollars to bail out Fannie Mae due to lax regulations, housing prices dropping, rising inflation, rising energy costs,GM and Ford now wanting bailout money- all thanks to the Bush administration. My friends, I think right now hunting and fishing issues are the least of our worries,This dyed in the wool republican(who was a big supporter of John McCain in 2000) is switching to Obama!
good choice, but dont forget she is a wife, mother and a very confident women.i just hope the press doesnt try to ruin her and her family with all there nit-picking.they have my vote,im voting for the real american team, and i pray that that little slick talker osama dosent get in.if he does, were screwed, dan
I was going to vote against Obama, as I believe that would be in the best interest of our country. Now I am going to vote for Palin for the same reason. Her stand on many issues is where I think we need to head. I think she has more qualifications to lead than some want to give her credit for. Plus, she has the "real life experience" that makes her seem more like a normal citizen instead of a political machine.

I want to start by saying Palin is probly a great person personally.
BUT
Its funny to see the rightwingers here pin her up as a posterchild for their party and hunting.
I once heard a quote, " Dont have high expectations for people, they usually let you down." I would say that is doubly true for POLITICIANS.
I want to point out that if Palin "falls from grace" like many have in the media spotlight, you all will own up and say you you had a double standard, because or your political beliefs, and you put politics before hunting.
I also want to say that I do not agree with having Palin being the end all for us hunters. We dont know much about her, most of the people here here have only heard her speak once or twice, and known of her for a week. And they want to say she is "good for hunting"..... WOW. What does that say about how you feel about hunting if you will let someone you dont even know, be the Poster child for it? I love the sport to much to do that.
Let me all remind you that there is some things in her past when it comes to her family and poaching.
Well at least we know what Sarah stands for an who she is. 110% Home grown has family values. She has got a back bone that is for sure. She is not just a organizer on her resume.
McCAIN has more than paid his dues for this country. I am Retired Military an know what is take to keep America "SAFE"! SEMPER FI! Shake up Washington let them know we have had enough.
If you had to go into arms way who would you want to be in the fox hole with you? Been there done that got a tee-shirt. We don't need on the job training for President.
Unless she can give me GPS coordinates to an elk for my Idaho trip next week, she pretty much isn't helping me. And, I guess compared to most female politicians, she is a "babe". She does clean up well and carries the confident woman in a man's world look well. I can't imagine working for her....or being her kid...or being married to her. She looks a bit like a hardash beeotch to me. I like a touch softer.
I bet she hurts the Mccain effort more than she helps.
I'm not real sure she'd be a boon to wildlands conservation either.
I don't know which is scarier. That Obama's VP and former Democratic oponent HRC both say that he is not ready nor capable of being President and running the country or that there are millions of people out there that feel he is ready and capable. God help us all if he becomes President,
Lets think about who controls the House & Senate, Oh that's right the Dems. Look at our economy 2 years ago before the change took place. Was gas $2.25/gallon? Were unemployment levels at the lowest in history? Were interest rates low, and housing prices rising?
When did things turn around for the worst? Oh I remember it was about 1.5 years ago. The president has very little say about what policies get pushed through. What about the $3+ Billion dollar farm bill that the house and senate passed? Do you know where that money went, 90% went to welfare programs, how in the world is that a Farm Bill? More of that to come if Hussein Obama gets elected. More social programs, subpar healthcare, and we get to pay for the people that don't work. How is he going to fund these programs? Taxes?
Let me tell you something... you obviously are a bowhunter.. for the rest of us, many also own guns. The only guns we'll have left if Obama is Elected will be the one on a pedestal honoring Davy Crockett or something, because he DOESN'T want them in your homes. Obama had a very clarifying interview with John Lott several years ago while a State Senator and his operative statements were, Americans shouldn't have guns, and he'd like them removed from everyone.
Palin is indeed a wonderful choice for the Republicans, has earned the right to lead, unlike many others in Washington. And when you look at Washington, you have marvel that they are taking your rights away everyday... and trust me... an Obama tax scheme is clearly designed to restrict your wealth and empower Washington. McCain's plan empowers all citizens in America. The giveaways of Obama's plan appeals to the tit-suckers, but what government gives, it too can take away... McCain at least wants to limit governments intrusions into our lifestyles.
of course she believe in life.... of course she belives in creation as a science based theory that should be taught in shcool.... of course she is against stem cell research....
are you not aware of who you are talking about......
For me it's an easy choice - who's judgement do I trust most. When it comes to insuring the security and saftey of the nation I trust McCain/Palin to make the right decisions.
WisconsinDon. You brought up the $1654 permanent fund and said it was a bribe from Gov Palin. I say it is not a bribe from the govenor because we were getting it every year, from when Palin was in High school.
The 1200 energy rebate is a handout. The state of Ak has a 14 billion dollar budget surplus this year. I can spend the peoples money better than the government.

Nice job Pat! There will always be enough advisors and briefings/debriefings that Palin could pick up plenty (and sift the b.s. out) fast. Much of the hobnobbing abroad seems like it's for show anyway.
There will always be little and big things we don't like about each other, but given the choice of voting for a war hero and an outdoorswoman or a a couple of far-left liberals, I know which way I'll vote.
One of my favorite quotes from Palin's speech (and I don't care WHO wrote it, she delivered!):
"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

We need more strong willed Americans just like her serving in public office. I find it amazing that on the one hand so many people complain about all the "career politicians" then turn around and scream just as loudly about "lack of experience".
Palin has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with and it didn't take her 20 years to do it - you're going to fault her for that?
I'd vote for her for President without hesitation.
Wisconsin Don needs to read what he "cut and pasted." It was the Alaska Legislature who passed the $1200 energy rebate. As Governor, Sarah DID sign it though.
I am trying to conjure up what is terrible about sharing money coming to the state from the "Big Bad Oil Companies" with the citizens.
Isn't Obama is proposing to "redistribute" oil company profits?
Come on man, just like with the "experience" issue, you can't vote "Present" on this one. You really can't have it both ways.
At this point, Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin... No matter who you vote for:
- more jobs go overseas - the middle class get's the shaft - our rights get infringed upon - the politicians vote themselves pay raises - the school system gets worse - etc.... etc... etc...
The only reason I would vote for McCain is so that, hopefully, Palin would eventually become president in the next presidential election (2012).
However, I recognize that this country needs a miracle to survive it's current debt, irresponsibility ans social disgraces... It's not just up to the Leaders, we, the people need to turn away from everything that is an abomination to God...
I am glad that the focus on Palin helps to bring hunting and fishing activities to the national spotlight. That doesn't happen often and so I'd say that's a positive thing. But I don't decide my vote exclusively on hunting and fishing issues. For instance, I would never vote for a right wing extremist who believes that government should have the power to censor the books we read.
My friends and co-workers of some twenty-five years are currently looking for work due to a plant closing directly related to the economy. I was fortunate in that I had my thirty years in the industry was eligible for retirement. But that was not the case for most of my co-workers. I doubt that most of them will be hunting and fishing this fall.
We have had eight years of Republican government and the disasterous results are not hard to see. Enough is enough. Whether Sara Palin is an avid hunter is not the issue; America simply cannot afford four more years of the Bush/Cheney policies that would be continued by a McCain/Palin administration.
Small wonder the Dems are running scared now. Sarah rocks!!! Does anyone know how Obama bin Biden and company plans to pay for all they are promising???
BIG TIME!!!!! I was seriously considering voting third party, but this pick has got me fired up. Nice job Sen McCain, oustanding pick! The liberal media is pulling out all the stops, so you know they are dang scared of this women. Wis Don thank you sir for listing 23 very good reason to vote for her. And in listing those you can see you are no conservative sir, not even close.
In 2003, Mike Wooten (sarach Palin's ex-brother in law), his wife (sarah sister) and a friend were moose hunting. Upon spotting a moose, Wooten instructed his wife to shoot the moose since she had the permit, she refused so Wooten did.
After carting the moose back to town, Sarah Palin's father actually butchered it in his garage, and Wooten shared the meat with both Sarah and Todd Palin as well as her parents. Two years later, during the divorce battle, the family filed a complaint alleging that Wooten had taken that moose illegally. At least they waited until they finished the meat to file the complaint against Wooten.
Alaska's :
These are the laws and Reg's in Alaska, sounds like the palins are accessoires to poaching....::
You may not transfer your permit to another hunter
You may not possess, transport, give away, recieve, or barter any illegally taken game or game parts.
Unprocessed meat and other game parts may be transfered to others permanently (given as a gift) or may be transfered temporarily for the purpose of transport. In doing so, both you and the person taking possession must be able to provide a signed statement that includes : both of your names and addresses, signatures, when and where the game was taken, what specific game or parts of game changed hands and hunting license number of the person who harvested the game. You must show this statement and the meat to an ADF&G representative if asked.
It is your responibility to make sure that game is leagally taken before you accept or transport it.
2nd Story ::: Levi Johnston (future son-in-law). Was arrested by the state police in 2007 for poaching salmon. He was fined $379.
IS SHE THE FACE OF HUNTING OR TURNING A BLIND EYE TO POACHING UNTIL IT EFFECTS HER DIRECTLY!!!!!!!!!
I called the Alaskan Fish and Wildlife and am awaiting a call back to see what the penalties are for someone who accepts the responibility for processing and accepting illegally taken game.
Wis Don, every time you post you expose the fact your an absolute moron. 2nd story--your kidding right me right...future son in law--so she must be a poacher. Ex brother in law the one you were whinning about that she used as a whipping boy. Your actually embarassing yourself and can't seem to get past your hatred of the Republican Party to see it? Pretty pathetic my friend.
i'm just not sure that she is the face of hunting, she and her husband accepted and ate the meat, her dad processed the illeagally taken moose at his house, and im sure sarah knew who shot it and who had the tag. These are things hunting families talk about. Any moose hunt is a story worth repeating, we'll hear more about this sooner than most would like.
I like how some of you that disagree think that Palin will end our hunting days. You better do some homework, because NOBAMA is 100% against gun ownership. If he gets you a job, you're still going to lose your house, because of his ridiculous tax hikes and he wants to be friends with the very people that hate us (MUSLIM). Who ever wins --- we'll still have to see how it is for another 4 years. I'm going with the VET. SEMPER FI!!!
The horror....the horror. Johnnyboy Mac, I know that you have a lot of miles on you but if you make it in and then through four years without having to pass the baton I'll sleep a little bit better. God bless the Libertarian Party!
Experience this and experience that, everybody is talking about experience. Just what experience does obama have? HMMM tell me, some of you people gripping about her experience better look at the other side, not to much spilling out of him either is it. I guess if voting 130 times just present is experience then hes your guy, so go jump right in the bed with him. If community organizer is experience then pull the sheets up over your feet. If working with the anti-gunners is the experience your looking for then pull the covers up to your neck and snuggle up tight its gonna be a bumpy night. Yea hes got experience alright, alot of experience pulling the con job on a lot of people, so you just pull them covers right up over your head, and roll over because HOPE AND CHANGE is on its way, just remember to lube up first.
You lost all credibility with me when you started quoting the enemy (Center for Biological Diversity). You might as well be using PETA or HUSA to further your arguments!
The rest of you pinkos,
I don't care if she was the executive in charge of 2 or 2 billion, if she makes the right choices based on strong values and convictions rather than special interests, she's OK with me.
Rxrob nailed it, the blaim of the downward economy is placed squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats, and to say it is only Bush who is responsible shows your lack of knowledge about how the economy works. If you had any education as far as the economy goes you would know that the controlled house and senate BY THE DEMOCRATS have caused the negative impact on the economy. Pick up an economy book and read it before you say such assinine things. The Democrats are responsible for the down economy and with Osama in power it will only get worse, higher taxes, more control given to the government and less to the people, and more government welfare. All you do is reiterate what crap you hear on FOX and CNN, talk about the ones being suckered here. If sportman as a whole are for it, who are good hard working americans, then that should tell you who is the right choice. Most of you who oppose them are too stubborn to look at the facts just because they are republicans, and merely go from one topic to another, while completely ignoring the questions. If Obama had the right stuff I would have no problem voting for him just cuz he is a democrat....but he doesn't!
For any Obama supporter, what does Obama bring to the table? What are his credentials? Who the hell is this guy and why will he be good for America??? We can answer why our candidate will be good for America, why can't you??? "Change" can be bad too ya know.

Pat, again a political column you nailed perfectly. And obviously you noticed just as I did, that Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC absolutely could not hide her disgust after Palin's speech, sensing surely that the air had just gone out of Obama's sails and that the major media's lovefest with Obama had their first trial to face. She literally looked like someone just took a dump on her lap and she could not be objective nor even appear anyway except that she had just drank sour milk. I loved it. And that tool Olberman...geez, what a hater.
As a conservative, I'm electrified with the pick of Palin. As a person distrustful of much of those in authority, I believe McCain to be more trustworthy than almost anyone else in Washington, and picking Palin did not hurt that one iota. I think it's called integrity and either of these two have more of that than Obama or Biden combined tenfold. Not even close. It will be hard with a liberal Congress, but the pork has to end and these two just might be able do it.
And as an outdoorsman, I am thrilled with the second coming of Theodore Roosevelt! To some of the inane detractors above, either you don't truly value hunting and fishing as real important parts of your life, or you have been sipping the MSNBC Kool-aid for far too long to get it.
P.S. I have to laugh at those who bash McCain for voting 90% with Bush. Try Obama voting something like 95% with Reid/Pelosi, and remember they have lower approval ratings than President Bush. If you're going to use that as your yardstick, Obama still loses.
WisconsinDon, conservative my a$$. Either you have no idea about politics or you are posing here as a conservative but are nothing more than a wolf dressed in sheeps clothing....kind of like the politician you are supporting.
Yes, Sarah Palin is helping hunters. If you get away from the rural areas in this country, hunters are looked down upon my many, people don't understand the culture many of us grew up in where we learned meat and vegitables do not come from the grocery store. Not only is Sara unashamed of being a hunter but she is unashamed of being a WOMAN hunter. I think the right woman can be a better advocate for our sport than any man could ever be.
As important as hunting is to me, it pales in comparison to the importance of being a father and a husband. I want a president that will keep the country safe and give me the opportunity to provide for my family. I no longer consider myself a Republican because the party has decided to stop legistlating in a fiscally conservative way. What I like about McCain/Palin, is that they will not be afraid to stand up to the Republicans when they see that our tax dollars are being wasted. McCain is the best chance we have right now for fiscal conservatives to once again have a party that represents them.
Well it sure would appear to me that the green out numbers the red by far. Again I'll state that peoples approval for Sen. Mccain & Gov. Palin has ranged anywhere from her being a "hottie", and an outdoorsman to her executive experiences and hard nosed business dealings. However I see noone taking a stance for the fact that she's a devout Christian, devoted wife & mother of 5 is PRO-LIFE and of course against homo-sexual marriages. For those of you that disagree and are voting for Obama, and choose to call yourself Christian; consider what the BIBLE has to say about murder & homo-sexuality before making your choice.
We already have too many "experienced" leaders in Washington. Respect for the constitution (as it is written) and strong moral values is what we need more of.
I personally think she is an excellent choice to help gather the remains of the Hillary voters who are on the fence. Th emany tens of thousands of women voters were are upset that Hillary is out of hte race now have thier heads turned and looking to support their new poster pin up. I for one think John's choice is a an excellent one. Remember, its all about making the right choice to get you elected. It all marketing... and Sarah is taking the stage my storm. You can't buy that type of publicity.
I'm taking down my Farah Faucett swimsuit poster and replacing it with Sarah P in her librarian outfit.
What are you guys who don't like her talking about. I only heard about 2 "opinions" that had any appeal to honest consideration. The rest were just crazy. If you don't like her fine. But the kind of country that you liberal would like to see is one where real people (who make up the vast majority of Americans) would not nike to live and the founders of our country would quickly be expelled or censored or called religous nuts. Keep your liberal trash.
P.S. Don't call yourself a Christian and vote for Obama. It would be living a LIE!
I agree she presents a good image for hunters, but that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. She is horribly unqualified, inexperienced, and untested. She's good at delivering zingers written by the republican party, but she is no where near capable of leading the most powerful nation on earth. To risk our nation to satisfy the need to have a hunter image is terribly narrow-minded. She is backward in her views on science, unknowledgeable in international affairs (which is why the republican party is keeping her away from reporters), antiquated in her views on women's rights, and she knows nothing about national or international affairs. She was hardly vetted and we only have 80 or so days to learn what she thinks about anything other than hunting. To put someone with this level of inexperience in the vice-presidency should scare anyone with a reasonable perspective.
But is she a dream babe? Yep - I'd buy a calendar.
How can anyone vote for a worthless brainwasher like Obama Hussian. If you think the world will get better with hime at the wheel get ready to move to canada. I will see ya there.
It is sad that people like WisconsinDon get there news from the MSM and do no research themselves. I disagreed with Bush sometimes and with McCain but they are a long way better for us than a socialist with an ego the size of Alaska. Palin is great and I hope she goes far and make the big ticket in the next go around.
Anyone who purports themselves to be a Christian and votes for a candidate that advocates killing babies in and out of the womb needs to re-examine their claim to faith and stop walking with evil in their hearts. If you are not a Christian then why would you vote for anyone who wants to take money from your pocket and use it to build on the entitlement mentality of some in our country? There are many argument why NOT to vote for NObama, but only a couple that are against McCain but in the face of what NObama brings I can overlook them. Nobody is the "perfect" candidate.
Voting for NObama is a vote to end our way of life, period.
Badjuju and rxbob are pretty much on the money. Just 'cause the lady like to hunt doesn't mean she's going to do anything for the rest of our country.
We've got ALOT of MAJOR problems right now and hunting isn't one of them.
I don't like McCain because he's just a tax the hell out of the middle class and poor type of republican. Is there any other type? I don't like the fact that he still can't see what a failure Iraq is, the fact he wont admit we should never have been there. Something most republicans can't see.
I said last election if all we had in '08 was another Bush/Kerry type of choice I wasn't going to vote. These candiates aren't as weak as Bush and Kerry but I still can't, in good faith put one in front of the other. Think I'll vote liberatarian as well.
Catfish, Its been said here a dozen times now. What experience does Obama have? He is not trying to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. He is trying to be the most powerful man on the planet.
I couldn't be happier to see Sarah Palin picked. She's an outdoorsman, has an 80% approval rate in a state of individuals and she is what the Republican party needed...a spark of youth and inspiration.
9 out of 10 respond with how good looking she is as a reason to vote for her. This isn't high school idiots, yea, she's good looking but that doesn't do a damn thing for running a country. I think the biggest reason McCain picked her is for the same reason. He's just hoping to get the "o" face in the oval office. Dispicable.
Sorry to disappoint, but I am not a poser of any kind, I am just a hard working & college educated sportsman with a lot of questions about both nominations and I have been looking at both equally with a fine tooth comb. B/c I don't trust either parties. We don't know what are lies and what is not a lie until we hear her and her family deny these allegations. I did not make them up just look online briefly and you can get the story. I am not a democrat or republican but I do have my own beliefs and the majority of my beliefs are conservative. I am not saying I am right or wrong I am just stating what I have learned from all media outlets.
About me: to those who think I am not a sportsman; I have hunted in WI since I was 12 years old, bow hunting when I was 16, trapping when I was 19, muzzleloader 22. I am now a 28 year old who has hunted in WI, NY, VT, ME, & CT. I am not quick to jump on any side. I am so glad that sportsman will have a voice in the debates but just b/c she is a hunter and fisherwoman doesn't mean that she is great and the right person for the job right off the bat. I looked at info on her and got a ton of info (both good and bad), just search into whom you support a little more before you believe everything at the RNC & DNC. I am merely playing the devils advocate so that I can learn more about what others think and why.
I am sorry about my last name I had it on my profile up to an hour ago until I started getting hate mail b/c of my comments so I took it off to protect my self and my family. It is frustrating, b/c I am merely trying to voice my opinion and learn as much as I can about Palin. My ideologies are not set in stone, actually far from it. All of us are bombarded by information (good and bad) I don’t know who is right, but the best way to get it worked out is to talk about it openly, not bash people who don’t share the same ideas as me. I live my life in constant flux and change opinions when I am wrong. I embrace information but take it as a grain of salt as all intelligent Americans should. If you want this to be a Palin love fest, which is fine I just thought I was a discussion about Palin, not a place to bash people’s beliefs. I am a bow hunter and an American and we all have hunting in common.
Again I do not support Obama, my decision on who to vote for will come after the next two months of debates.
"the blaim of the downward economy is placed squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats, and to say it is only Bush who is responsible shows your lack of knowledge about how the economy works."
That's a lot of nonsense. We have eight years of an economy under the previous Clinton administration in which to compare the past eight years of the Bush economy. The current President not only inherited a budget surplus, the national debt had been reduced during the Clinton years. President Bush also had a Republican controlled congress for his first six years. So now try to blame the Democrats for the present economic downturn not only flies in the face of the facts, it shows how desperate Republicans to avoid taking the blame for the very policies they have championed for decades.
Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That being the case, insanity must be rampant in the GOP ranks these days.
VOTE.....I think it is wonderful to have someone like her to consider. There is so much at stake, especially with "our way of life". To have someone with as much involvement in the outdoors and hunting rights out in the open, who cares what the "republicans" have done. We are just getting out of the Clinton mess now, or did we forget the BRADY BILL and all those other wonderfull things that game me hearburn when I read them.....AL
"she states plain where she stands and it is against what all the evil minded liberals want to spread on our country ,enough of your evil it is time to STOP!!! killing babies and protecting homosexuals ,the bible sayes they are worthy of death in the first chapter of Romans."
If you want a theocracy perhaps you ought to consider moving to Iran. You might be happier there. That way you could leave that messy liberty and freedom stuff to us moral reprobates who are willing to think for ourselves.
"She is backward in her views on science, Because she wants to offer Creationism as a school alternative to evolution? Because she thinks polar bears are, in fact, thriving as they are or because she believes we can drill domestically safer than some terrorist 3rd world Arab nation?
"unknowledgeable in international affairs" as evidenced by...
"antiquated in her views on women's rights," because the whole state executive and "nominated for the second most powerful person in the world" is soooo pre- Susan B. Anthony...
She's just a govenor...I should lament that her resume isn't the same as former Senator Ronald Reagan or former Senator William Jefferson Clinton...
WE AS HUNTERS AND OUTDOORSPEOPLE must forget our "party lines" and focus on our rights as given by the constitution. We must focus our energy in one direction, WE THE PEOPLE...
Shaf2long, For the last time, we are not going to vote for Palin just cuz she is a hunter, why do you people keep ignoring that? We like her for all of the other reasons AND she is a hunter as well. I don't think anyone here is saying they are voting for her based solely on that, it is just one more reason upon many.
You don't like McCain because of tax increases??? Are you freaking kidding me, do you have any idea what Obama is proposing, major major tax hikes, on top of the possibities of garnished wages in order to pay for better health care, and more control given to government in general.
One more thing, McCain does not want to be in Iraq more than you or I, but the job has to be finished before you leave, otherwise we will only be facing the same problems all over again like when it was left undone the first time during Desert Storm. He wants a timely removal of the troops but only when the job is complete. It is better for all of us if they finish what they started. You're more concerned with someone admitting guilt than the real issues here. McCain and many other americans have moved beyond pointing fingers and are focusing on a solution to fixing it, maybe you should too.

WisconsinDon, Come on you slammed Palin as a poacher because her "brother-in-law" killed a moose. He was a CONSERVATION officer, killed a moose with his wife's permit.
He said and still claims it was LEGAL to do (BTW Iowa has such a party hunting rule)
But beyond that you then JUMP to the conclusion Sarah is a poacher and knew all about it.
How is that fair and or objective?
Second the 16 year old boy was NOT dating their daughter at the time. Was your mother-in-law be held accountable for all of your sins before you even dated your current wife? How absurd is that? I can also say that is NOT a conservative value.
And yet you slander Palin by saying "2 cases of Poaching in the Palin Family"
Well last time I checked that's her daughter's boyfriend and isn't a Palin and never will be. To link his act, committed before he even started dating Palin's daughter, to Sarah Palin and then suggest this calls into question her ethics and position as a positive role model for outdoorsman is gutter ball politics.
As to hatemail I ain't buying it, but if it is true just tell Pat. I for one don't believe it.
Lastly Obama has a link to HSUS on his website. Any hunter worth his or her salt would find that reason enough not to vote for Obama
I am happy with the selection. We had better start allowing diversity in the 'ruling class' before we end up with a group of narrow minded elitists telling us who we are and how we should live... Oh, I guess we are already at that point!
This country was founded by a group of people who were fed up with tyranny and King's rule (AKA: big government) and knew why they wanted a government made up "of the people, by the people, and for the people". What we have done in the last 366 years is come full circle back to where we started! We have given control back to the King and allowed ourselves to become servants to the 'King's rule'.... Wonder what Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams, Franklin, Washington and others would think about where their country has gone?
BTW, Why does WisconsinDon get so many votes here!!!
Rooselk, check your stats there, we had one of the strongest economies in decades i.e. the lowest unemployment, highest increases in wages, greatest GNP, lower gas prices, greater appreciation in home values etc. previous to the democrats taking over the house and senate two years ago. You are going to blame Bush and all the republicans for anything that happened previous to the dems controlling the house and senate, yet won't blame any of the dems once they took over, isn't that a bit hypocritical? The president only has limited control. There were some problems after 9/11, but aside from that what are you talking about?

the question is "is Sarah Palin helping Hunters" well I don't know what she has done and it is probably safe to say she will not hurt hunters. Now whether or not she will be a good VP is up in the air. After all she really belives the earth is 6000 years old. WOW I wonder what other facts she chooses not to believe in.
Some of you boys had better wake up and smell the coffee. This governor went after the CA congressman that wanted to stop aerial predator control in her state when the caribou herds were effected by over predation. WisconsinDan, cites the center for biological diversity as opposed to her polar bear suit. Well Dan they oppose us controlling predators in AZ in our core sheep unit that we use to transplant the species to others units and states. We went from a population of over 800+ sheep in the area down to around 400 from lions eating them and they keep block attempts for us to increase the numbers of lions we are allowed to take in the area from 1. Sound familiar? They support wolves in AZ and across the west, and have actively supported putting wolves in more units in our state 9. 10 , 8 Kaibab and the strip prime hunting grounds for Res and NR alike! It's time to actually step up and support a candidate that is willing to step up and protect your right to hunt and fish and she has proven it! The mess we're in today is a culmination of the last 16 years from both parties not knowing just how much an impact would be felt going offshore with many of our industries, jobs, and sending billions upon billions of dollars to them that we lost in our economy as a result. So the finger should be squarly pointed at both parties and it will take both parties to fix it! If you're a hunter and you want to continue to do so I'd support her because she's the only one that supports us and will stop the special interests that oppose what we do!
