Hey bear experts...I killed this boar on Sunday. His dressed weight was 365#. What would his live weight be? I was guessing 450#. His head is huge!! How do you get them scored? That's my 12 yr old son with him.

Just my .02 but I think you could add maybee 50-60 lbs. to the dressed weight to come up with the live weight. To score the bear remove all the meat from the skull. If you have access to a university that has the flesh eating beatles that is the way to go. I do not reccommend boiling the head to remove the meat as that can shrink the skull. You can do a green score after that by adding the length + the width of the skull. An actual measurement is taken a minimum of 60 days after the animal is harvested.

Good luck with the measurement, that looks like a very fine adult bear. Congrats.

I was in your shoes last season. The DNR told me that a 460 dressed would be between 520 and 530 live weight.

Congrats its a great bear.....good luck topping him!

"Dressed weight will be 16% less than live weight"

I found this statement in a paper regarding bear weights and sizes. I have found it to be extremely accurate, usually within 1 pound. So doing the math, Dressed=.84xLive and Live=1.19xdressed.

So your bear was 434 pounds live weight.

they say add about 15% to dressed weight for live weight.....i think this is pretty accurate!

It's not a good bear buddy, IT'S A DANDY BEAR!!! Congrats! Look up the closest P&Y scorer to you and he will probably know someone with beetles and talk to you about the drying period.

The skull has been sent off for beetle cleaning. When I get it back the Official measurer says to contact him 60 days after I get it. Thanks for all the nice comments and advice.
