always liked makin stuff of my own. lets see some of the hunting related stuff uve made in the past!
Here are a few homemade archery targets I made a few years ago that I'm still shooting.
Thanks Beendare! Pretty popular over on the other (AT) site.A pretty quick build & only around $25.
I just may have been out-rednecked..... LOL!
Maybe......
I also made that press except with steel fingers, making one for a friend now, looks like you have a sleeve on the crank side, how do you attach it to the wood? I welded one on mine.
I also made a draw board, planning on building a bench top press too. Right now playing with bent cable guards to offset cam lean.
Love to tinker, hope to see more ideas.
Doubles as a brush guard.
check out these babies. I can make them for $2.57 in scrap parts.
Bugle, that's one of the simplest presses I've seen anywhere. Awesome!
My bowfishing reel is a gallon bleach jug with #100 braided mason's line and a bobby pin to hold the line on.
Bugle...any chance you can give a little explanation of making that press?
X2 on the bow press.Would like to see how you made that.
This project started out with a torn lawn chair
here it's taken apart, refitted with 1/2" conduit, and mocked-up
this is the finished stand and it only cost about $3.00 to make
easy to set up, works great, and is pretty sturdy too
Guys, if you like that bow press, there are several detailed plans and accompanying posts over on Archery Talk in the DIY section. Not to pimp another forum, but their DIY section is pretty good.
Jim
perfect size for two practice bags
remove two pins and the whole thing lays flat.
I also liked the pipe bow press. Less time then a pocket press... and half the cost!
Lee Buzz
you could also tape some paper to that contraption and use it to tune your bow
not real heavy duty, but it'll haul my 200 lb butt around and it folds somewhat flat
I'm curious how that bow is staying in the press. It looks like a watermelon seed squeezed between two fingers.
Striker, It looked a little scary to me also!
i like the ideas guys...keep em comin!
Norseman,
I think, as it is, the back brace would get in the way. Currently I clamp two arrow shafts to another lawn chair and then clamp paper to the shafts. That puts me on a more level plane for paper tuning.
itshot,
So who pushes you around in that thing?
itshot...just a suggestion.
Have you thought about a platform on the lower axle level to lower the center of gravity and carry the greater part of the load on the lower axles and not the upper frame and handle?
This might not qualify as it was fieldmade stuff.
But with just three sticks and some 550cord I had a comfy stool to sit on and wait for the elk to show up.
Preacher, my 5 y.o. does!!
Norse, that vertical strut transfers the weight down to rear axle pretty well, but I see what you mean, might try that when I break it
LeeBuzz, I was just thinking today I wanted to get one of those stools. I think I'll try your method before I spend any money, I already have the cord. I don't have a clue how to weave the seat, but I'll give it a shot.
love the stroller idea.got a double stroller that the kids n ever use.will be ok as long as the wife doesnt see me cutting up her 250 dollar pain in the ars thing we never use any way.will be done by oct.
that seats a cool way to make a quick seat
In regard to the pipe clamp press, there is a ton of info & different style fingers over on AT in the DIY section. Do a search on "My $20. bow press".The wood yoke of the clamp is notched out to fit the limb tips just enough to keep them in place. It is under alot of pressure when pressed & you would have to get fairly careless to separate the bow from the clamp if you could even do it.Dont believe I'll try...Here's my arrow saw.Mabe $30. in it.
I've made a few treestands in the past. Several different styles - some aluminum and some steel.
This one's aluminum and uses the old Vantage Point screw-in hook. Very lightweight and portable.
ultra lightweight and portable aluminum rope on. Very good for a sneak in and quick setup.
I just finished manufacturing an "X" style bow press. Just need to paint it this weekend. I will post pictures when I get it finished.
Wow! Midwest hires a "Model" to show off his stuff!
i liike those stands. wuts the total cost on them?
Just did my first knife this week. I'm really pleased with it.
I made several of each of those stands over 15 years ago. The aluminum hang-ons cost me around $24 in materials each and the metal ones I built a few years later were about $20 each. These days, you can buy the cheap Chinese stands for probably less than what you could build one for. But I trust my life to my stands.
They still get used every season and are hanging in trees from August thru November or beyond.
any of you guys remember the antelope creeper invention somebody was working on here on the bowsite? it was a low to the ground contraption with wheels- all camoed out so you could theoretically lay on the ground and scooch up on speed goats silently. i'd like to see if that ever panned out...
Very cool knife buglemaster. I have always wanted to learn that trade. Keep up the good work!
Pretty bows Herdbull!Great thread!
been tryin to make some selfbows myself
Been toying with the idea of making my own predator call, dont have the materials, tools or experience though. Anybody do that?
Hey Bou'
you might remember this one I posted it back in 2004
Here are a few removable tree steps I welded together and painted... don't laugh they work
Lee- clever steps....
But that treestand looks like my 8th grade gym teachers paddle.......one of my few memories of junior high 40 years ago...go figure!
came across a few rolls of paper.....gotta be good for something
add hanger, pull down and weight with a brick, shoot-shoot-shoot
Shoulder rig for 9.5" Ruger .44 mag
Stands! I try to make as much as I can since I have retired!
white falcon thats a nice looking and strong lookiong stand!
didn't like the plastic grip on my destroyer so I made my own out of mesquite laminated to micarta.
Stole my wifes swing and it made a great bag hanger.................lol......Does this count as redneck ?.......lol........And yes i got into a lil trouble, but i didnt have to spend any money..
scott are those lights in hay bales... if so very clever
Not archery stuff tho it is homemade stuff.
Built this trap to keep intruders out of my bass boat. They were getting in and spraying plus wreaking havoc on the wiring system. Killing my tilt/trim, running lights, livewell aerator, and indash finder meant WAR!
Ironically they were caught by the use of a mouse trap...
First soldier to leave the battlefield!!!
Cool LeeBuzz, homemade running targets! Just open the door and shoot. I suppose you have to replace after every shot.
So many cats, so few recipes...
I like the large holes in it to let the lake water in.
any ideas or solutions as to what to use for a 'non slip' application / treatment for aluminum and steel tree stands? Both mesh and conduit platforms.
Pain's Link
passing thru, 3M makes a non-skid, adhesive backed tape product. Check the link.
Pain, this is perfect, however, do you know if any of the local stores carry these? The link seems to be geared towards the bulk or large quantity user.
Type in 3M grip tape in your browser, should pull up several places you can purchase from
Go to Home Depot or Menard's in their stair department. You'll find it there. I use it on all my steel laderstands up at camp.
I think mixing sand with polyurethane would be a fairly inexpensive way to provide traction on a stand. They have similar products available to provide traction on sealed concrete floors, but you’d need to buy in 5 gallon quantities and you’d end up with enough to seal hundreds of stands.
passingthru...Try using Herculiner(sp)...the stuff sticks to anything and has a ton of grip...just roll it on...i put some on the seats of my 12 foot aluminum boat to stand on while bowfishing.
Thanks Bowfisher This weekend's project!
Sweet Buglemaster. I am looking for a way to upgrade my Toad Linear press with fingers similar to the ones you have or fingers like on the last chance. Anyone have any ideas? I will post a few pics.
Here is a pic. Any ideas? Anyone want a job?
Here is a pic of my homemade light kit for my pro chrono digital. Total cost around $9. I will try to get a pic of it on my graph today....it works flawlessly.
Leebuzz, I built a couple like yours ,- the holes cack in 04 also!
Made for a young boy on the lease!
30 C.H. very nice! What did you use for the crimps?
LeeBuzz,
You'd have done well on Gilligan's Island......you could probably make anything! LOL
I love the pipe bow press idea.......I'll be making one this weekend!
White Falcon- Amacker owes you some money. I have an Amacker treestand that looks EXACTLY like the one you "built". They even used the same turnbuckle/chain configuration, clamps on the cables and seat material and pattern.
Made this recurve. I'm really happy with it. 60#@28"
Here it is strung. Bubinga, with bol.rosewood stripe.
Stippled the grip...in the background are a few arrows I made too. There is a wooden arrow box too.
heres a couple, bowvice just clamp to table
lazier tool to adjust center shot
Just finished the sheath's for my first 2 knife builds.I really like this stuff!
Here's a few things I have made.
my latest bow. Its a silk backed osage bow with take down sleeves and horn overlays. 60# @ 28"
The little bugger above was made at home, does he count?
cb you only think he was made at home!!!!!!!!!! :)
