How important are the height of the load lifters in comparison to the top of the shoulder? I have 2 different packs and both the lifters are level with my shoulder height. How uncomfortable will this be on a 5 day bivy?

Well they won't lift at all. They will stabilize the load, but you need about a 30 degree angle to have the load lifters work properly. They have to have enough angle so when they are pulled, they take felt weight from your shoulders and transfer it to your hips.

Thanks that's what was afraid of. Anyone looking for an MR Optifade Longbow.

There are dumped that MR may make an extension for the load lifters by extending the nice frame. These dumped have been out there for a couple of years though. The MRs are built bulletproof, but the nice frame certainly needs some work.

Yeah I really like the bag but if the lifters are not at right level it does not do me much good to :(

You'll be just fine. The load will be lifted off your shoulders because your waistbelt is tight and your yoke adjusted to the correct height. Load lifters are more for balancing a load and pulling the pack toward you a bit. Longbow is a sweet pack.

Load lifters are as described, they lift the shoulder straps up and away from your shoulders placing more weight on your waist. The pack has to go above your shoulders (up closer to the top of your head) to make them functional. As stated it needs a good angle to be functional. The new destroyer and battleship from eberle do just that. www.hunthardcore.com

Packhunter, I have to respectively disagree 100%. the straps on the Longbow and Crew Cab our load stabilization straps at beat. They do nothing to transfer the weight from your shoulder straps to waist belt. MR's 6500 bag has load lifters on it which are attached to the bag and they do lift the shoulder straps up and transfer some of that weight onto your waist. It is simple physics.
