Guys: We have a new sponsor on the site www.whitefeatherlodge.ca that has a few Woodland Caribou tags in a very good area on Newfoundland for this fall. As you know the tags have been significantly cut back in the last few years due to predator problems and it is quite possible there will be NO tags in 2010. Just wanted to say that of the 7 tags Cog had, 3 were taken by bowhunters. All 3 were Bowsiters, and all 3 took really good stags on the 1st day! In fact, the 4 rifle hunters did as well! I think that speaks alot for their operation. I will say that I am grateful to Charlie, and Bowsite for my opportunity! It shows the quality of our sponsers!

I recently heard that the caribou season will be closed for 3 to 5 years in Newfoundland. Any truth to this? Is it island wide or just certain areas?

It appears that there MAY be the same number of tags available as there were last year, but the Ministry has not made their final decision yet.

Actually I heard some news that the surveys on the calf recruitment were very good this past year, something like 30-40%. where previously it was more like 0 to 10%. Don't know what that means yet but it's something to be optimistic about.

I spoke with Cog yesterday and his tag allotment was cut from 7 to 4 for 2010. He is mighty upset because the herd is in good shape where he is located. Get on it quick if you are interested. Charlie
