Mounting turkey wings?
Turkey
Contributors to this thread:
I am going to try to mount the wings of a turkey. I plan on doing the tail also. I have done these before, but never the wings. I have them in the freezer right now. How do I go about doing it? Do you take the bones out or do they stay in? Thanks for the help.
I've just carved the meat from the bottom side of the wings between the bones, then cake with borax/salt and they dry right out.
I'm in NM, where it's pretty dry, but no smell, hanging on the wall for years now.

Do exactly what smarba said..when meat is gone, and borax in place, then pin onto cardboard how you want them and allow to dry..month or so. then project is complete!!
Do you leave the bones in? Won't they spoil?
Yep, leave bones in. No spoilage for me.
I nailed mine to a piece of plywood to dry. Only needed a couple of small nails to hold the wings spread as I wanted them. Pins werent' strong enough to hold the wings fully spread.

Take the first bone off that comes from the chest of the bird. It is not needed but make sure and clean really well. I think the wings make a big difference.
I have also put a hinge on the back of my B-Mobile holding the fan which is attached to some spiderwire fishing line (no stretch) that I can pull to raise and lower his fan with a smooth pull from where ever I am sitting. I run the string through the body and out just under his beard with little biddy I bolt screws that I screw into the rubber body. The extra movement can catch the attention of turkeys from a long way and gets dominate birds fired up if there is one of his hens with the "strutter".
