whats the verdict on these , can one move around and not sweat up in them !!
My experience is that they are worthless. My friends agree.
Sorry, I did not answer that very well. Just passionate . You sweat less than rubber rain gear of course but not any improved over gore tex in my opinion . I think gore tex rain repellency is vastly superior.
For the cost and the fact I don't enjoy hunting in the rain, these are what I'm buying for my Ak trip.seem strong enough to hold up for a day and allow my sitka gear to dry up in a tent.I was trying some of it on yesterday.
Absolute. Crap. You will shred it in a day unless you are hunting on a golf course
I have a set. They have their place. Moose hunting isn't one of them.
I have carried a FT jacket in my pack for elk hunting. Works well when those afternoon showers happen.
I also use FT out fishing on my boat.
Good luck, stay dry
Crap like Bou said. I would never have them in my pack, no less an Alaska hunt! Both Gore-Tex and an older set of Walls Water-Pruf worked fine for me many days in Alaska, B.C., coastal Oregon.
Crap is a harsh word. They have their place but not in bush country.
They are good for fishing!
..........and golf as I noted above.
No they are not the threads come out and foul your reel.
grant for the record some good whitetail /turkey hunting along a golf course, OK so they suck got it thanks.
Lous,
FT's are cheaply made, noisy, and no hunting quality. Don't even consider.
Good for putting in a golf bag in case of a summer shower during a round.
I like them ,use them for fishing and I use them as a wind breaker for hunting. If your walking through briars ,yea, they won't last long.
What Frogg Toggs are you talking about though? Are you talking the rain gear? Yeah, shreds in two minutes! Are you talking the wading pants? Used them on an AK moose hunt and they were great and plan to take them again.
If you're referring to the rain gear, they are crap. Mine lasted about 5 minutes on a Kodiak deer hunt.
Never even used them hunting! Way too noisy. Although I keep a pair under the back seat of the truck in the event I need to change a flat tire in the rain.Bob.
They are fine for fishing from a boat---
Hunting they tear up real fast---
Good luck, Robb
Wow. I've had great luck with mine. I use them for hunting (deer) in NY. This is woods - not brush country like some guys are talking about. They have held together, keep me dry and I didn't notice a sweat factor.
However - I ride in on my ATV so far and then walk. I wear them in if it's raingin but I also keep them in my pack and change into them on stand if it's raining. I absolutely love them.
A friend of mine madea a point to tell me he buys that type of stuff from catalog companies that offer replacement warranty - like LLBean with 100% satisfaction guarantee. If they rip - he gets a new pair through them.
if you are in any brush....they will be shredded in a couple days!
As most others noted they wont hold up 10 feet, they are junk when it comes to hunting. With that said I keep a pair in my truck when I know I will be getting into muddy country just to keep my clothes from getting muddy.
GBA
If your not in brush they would be ok.
They are great! Some of the best emergency fire starter you can take with you.
Tried out there hip waders while I was in Alaska moose hunting and they worked well. Only real problem is they felt like the fit on my feet was nice and snug at home but they seemed to loosen up a bit to where I and the guy hunting with me ( wearing the same hip waders) had to start tapeing our toes and heels as our feet started to swim in them. A little noisey if you are concerned about that but otherwise they were a pretty good deal. I should have put some sort of insole in them in retrospect. Maybe some of our problems with our feet not fitting after a few days is like a boot. But I just do not wear hip waders around at home in August to break them in. What ever brand you buy I believe a good aftermarket insole will help as with boots. They were worth the money I paid. Bob.
