Got back about two weeks ago to the real world, and am missing being away already! Planning for next year! This year was even more exciting than last year! Never dreamed moose could talk and make sounds like that! last years inter action was awesome, and after spending the whole year practising calling, we set up for bow but weather and wind were terrible, so it was opening day of rifle so we set up across the channel from where I had cut my shooting lanes about 250yds. The wind was wrong but then about three hours before dark the wind stopped and the fun began! After a few short calls we heard a bull in the distance from behind so I waited and then we heard a very faint call from a long way off, so I called back and again from how far off i will never know but the real party began! I was returning his call every time he called! It took him two hours to get there and he was coming like a freight train he was destroying everything in his path! I get goose bumps thinking about it!I knew this was the bull we had seen the day before from way down the channel and I am pretty sure I had put cross hairs on him the year before just moments after we finished getting a small bull in the boat ! He came out right at sunset and he walked right over the log I was sitting on the day before with my bow! "damn wind" I am still very happy ,but that would have been a dream bull with a bow! He finally showed after we danced in the water with my plywood antlers and crashing the willows! Dropped him at 252yds and double lung and back of heart! He never took a step! I will however not be using my rifle next year i hope! 54" and absolutely huge body! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Freezers are full!

Nice moose!
Can you use a bow during rifle season in your area?

After five days with bow and terrible wind and rain we switched to rifle on opening day of rifle, yes you can hunt bow in rifle season, I can say when you hunt with two other guys that are rifle only they vote you out pretty quick!!! lol I saw more moose than them! lol we saw 16 this year and 22 last year! The night of full moon this year and last the forest was alive, like an orchestra I thought my buddy was putting me on! He said he had never heard that much sound, we drove back about an hours boat ride to get other buddy and soon as we got there we just sat there in the dark listening to it there as well!It was truely amazing, this bull was in full rut when we returned guys were saying they had not started yet but they were chasing cows like crazy and some were already paired up,though the cows still had calves with them!

No outfitter! Private lake and cabin and yes thats my new crossbow! lol I really hunted hard for bow I walked miles thru swamps and hills and saw some areas that were completely destroyed buy a bull , he was busting 4" trees and ripping them from the ground! The bull i shot came out right were i was sitting with bow but when the wind was blowing it would have never worked! This guy came out of the bush like a crazed animal , I put the cross hairs on him for about 45 mins I could see his head and look in his eye but he had about 20 feet of scrub in front so no clear shot! He was ripping trees everywhere at one point we were trying not to laugh as he had a great big piece of birch tree on his antlers and could not shake it! lol He made so many different sounds and grunts it was awsome to be able to mimic him as it taught me a lot about how they communicate the air was cooling and exetremly still we had two other bulls calling & coming and I can guarantee every cow calve and bull for 5 km was listening and thinking that wow these guys are gonna drop the gloves!!! By the time he was down on the ground the one other bull came into about 120yds of us but we could not see him as dark was upon us, after driving an hour to get another boat and pick up another hunter, we never made it back to camp till sun up! a full 26hrs of hunting we fell into our beds with complete exhaustion! we did not dare to open him to cool for the next day as we were worried about wolves lots of sign, so there was no way I was taking that chance!

Ya we had two evenings of fishing cause of bad weather so all in all great holiday! lol Thats the boat ready to be loaded onto plane! what comes in goes out! We had to planes for three moose and while loading the second plane the eyelet on boat front for bow line punched a hole in the pontoon, so we had to leave everything in the boat and jump on the plane and head out they pilot went in next day to retrieve the load after float was fixed!
