Must be the time of the year for full frontal discussion. Steve Rinella hunting BC for moose with a rifle took a 50 yd, full frontal on a bull. Bull ran off, Rinella chased after him and took another shot. Seeing the bull was down he made the mistake of approaching it when the bull got up, his rifle misfired and the bull charged running right over him. His partner finally shot the bull and Rinella had moose blood on him but was OK. He did comment that he handled it wrong and would never take a frontal shot again. Perhaps he should have used a bow:)

I bet that's not all he had on him. Hope he was wearing his brown pants. Stain wouldn't show as much.

Watched a McMillan(?) moose hunt last week and the McMillan guy took his at like 2 yards, frontal,on a charge. I think it was on an Uncle Ted hunt. But it didn't go far if I recall.
I guess taking the shot, and MAKING the shot.... are two different things..... =D

I saw the show - caught it twice! In the video, you can't even see the moose when he first shot. Hard to say what angle the moose was or whether brush may have deflected his custom 7mm Remington magnum. It was exciting! I like his shows better than most that are on these days. I would like to have known more about his rifle misfiring - dead round, short stroked the bolt and didn't chamber a round, broken firing pin?

Clearly the F S was effective. Random chance bad luck the blood starved brain dead moose made his death run over Steve
From a production stand point made for some great footage
Best outcome possible for all concerns except the moose
But then that's why we watch, to see them go down Never tire of seeing them give up the ghost and collapse The bigger the better, way to go meat eater Steve

Great info on cooking the femur to get at the marrow to put on the grilled meat. He said it was like putting butter on the meat.

Gun kill so it doesn't matter! JK :)
He didn't give the moose long enough is the lesson I took away from it. If he'd have waited 30 mins, that moose would have probably been dead.

That's a great show and that episode was excellent. He just got a little too excited and didn't give the bull time to expire. The shots were fine

I loved my full frontal shot at 200 yards this past year. He took 1 step and fell over. Didn't have one ounce of wasted meat. I would do it again, with a good solid rest, and a moose that wasn't thinking of moving. Wouldn't with a bow though.

He certainly screwed up and is lucky he didn't get gored or dead,. I like Steve's' show because h r is honest about what occurs and doesn't edit out to make himself look good. The one thing I would be worried about is his custom rifle failed him in the heat of the charge, might have been the round but either way spooky.

DL,
What a cool idea!! How did he cook the femur....I would think that boiling would remove much of the flavor/nutrients.....did he grill it or what?

Jake, He just tossed it in the fire and raked some coals around it and let it cook a while. I think he did warn about it cooking too long but for some reason I don't think he said exactly how long. Then when the steaks were ready he took the femur out of the coals and smacked it with a rock to break it in half. Scooped it out like butter. Very interesting.
