Let's see some moose pics with scores. By looking at a moose I'm not to familiar with moose scores, I have a pretty good idea what a 300 inch elk looks like and a 150 whitetail and a 180 inch mule deer look like but when it comes to moose I don't have much of an idea.

How does scoring a moose rack differ from a whitetail? (yes I could look it up myself). I mean to me - those moose look to score about 800 :)

On moose you do not measure the point lenghts. Just base diameter, palm lenght and width plus number of qualifying points (a point needs to be at least 1" long and cannot be wider than it is long). Also the total overall width of the rack.

Rock has it. The toughest part for me was the measurement from the "palm" as they all seem to be different and never the "classic" palm that the P&Y score sheet shows.

Moose can be tough to score on the hoof, at least for me it was. You can have a 60 inch bull with 20 big beautiful long points get outscored by one with 20 3 inch nubs. I can tell if they are small, medium or large:)
We saw 2 bulls on the trip that I could say were 200 plus. How much I don't know but they were high 60" and big with lots of points, big palms etc. The rest were too small for our liking or good enough:)

Study the score sheets and know the 3 or 4 visual measurements you can see with binocs. Good luck!

168 gross shiras 52" wide the only measurement he is a little short on is fork on the brow to fork on top of paddle. A short brow where the fork protrudes farther from the skull scores higher. This bull is entered into B&C with net score of 161 and change, so 168 gross was not an estimate.

For one to score well it has to have at least forked brow tines, and the more, the better for point total. If the brows aren't forked, you loose a lot in palm length.
