We are flying in on a Bush plane n our weight limit is 70lbs per person. I'm having a hard time getting down to that 70 lb limit, I tend to always over pack on my hunting trips. We will be in the bush for 13 days. Any suggestions or gear lists would be appreciated! Thanks!

60 lbs of Gold Bond!
Bog Buster hippers are great but will get torn some but worth it
What dates in Sept?
I'm booked for a guided hunt (9-15 Sept) and taking merino wool base layer (2 pair), 4-5 pair of socks and liners, Kuiu Guide vest, jacket, & pants. Kuiu puffy parka (just in case of really cold temps), Kuiu Attack pants, 5 pair of merino wool underwear, leather Loma Tibet GTX HI boots with gaiters, along with Wiggy's for stream crossings.
Wearing waist waders for flight in and backup.
Backpack with Helly Hanson rain gear.
Everything I'm bring is intended for multi-day wear. No cotton.
With bow, sleeping system, and all the gear weight is at 40ish lbs.
If you have good light gear it should not be too hard to make the weight. Don't double up on stuff with your partner other than cook system and maybe water treatment.
One lighter and one warmer set of clothes. A down jacket, light tent, sleeping system. Game bags, freeze dried food. Pack like you are going to carry it on your back.
We made 12 days at 60lbs.
Check your PM, I can email you mine.
Russell I will be hunting Sept 14-26...I am taking kuiu's yukon rain jacket n pants. And all my base layers n outer garments are either kuiu or first lite wool. Cabela's dry plus wading pants. N planning on taking MH meals.
I assume you are going in by Super Cub? Remember that you will be wearing one full set of clothes, binos, range finder, side arm if taking one. Take that out of your pack weight.
Yes we are flying in on a super cub. Not sure if I'm going to worry about taking a side arm or not. Just depends on how much weight I have to spare.
Rick M how many MH are you allowing for your hunt?

Here's a list that should stimulate some thoughts.
I usually eat a Granola MH for breakfast and a 2 person meal for dinner. Fill in the day with bars, gorp, jerky etc. I took 2 extra dinners just in case we got stuck. Your not going to starve to death but you could end up hungry if you don't have any extras.
I had a friend get weathered in for 9 days.
If Rick M hadn't waited until the final morning of the hunt to kill his moose, he could have eaten a bunch of moose meat and whittled his Air Cargo bill down a tad.
Poor planning....!
Pete
Pete,
Where is the fun in that:} If I could shoot straight I would have been done on the 3rd day and then what? Plus it would have taken all the fun out of the last minute meat shuffle.
I guess we could have come out early and I would have had that comedians skit memorized, what was the name of that guy you had on cd? He is a funny guy.
For those that have done self guided float trips like this before... would you recommend knee high rubber boots like lacrosse or hiking boots like my tibets?
I'll have waist high waders and wading boots (Simms), but for the other days when I am not rocking the waders.. are the moose in more boggy areas where hiking boots are useless or would I be better served with the support offered from my hiking boots?
Thanks for the info guys! Rick M do u have a link to your hunt or any pictures u can share
I am not sure how to post a link so I think you will need to cut and paste? Hawkeye "Eyad" also had a real nice write up on his hunt and is in the moose threads, among others.
Shoot me a PM if you have any specific gear questions.

I like to have a bottle or two on hand sanitizer in my pack. Moose can be stinky. Its nice to be able to eat and not smell moose pee as strongly.
Can't you just pay for a 2nd gear flight??I go with 40 mile air and pay the $700 extra for a gear flight. Its not too bad split between 2 guys and you live so much better out there. When I was out there last year in the never ending rain,I thanked God I paid the extra gear flight and had all the extra clothes and gear needed to be comfortable. Can't imagine living back there on 70lbs for 10 days.I'm doing moose next season and you can beat I'll pay my half of the $700,and have a nice camp set up.But, I'm staying out the entire moose season Good luck on your hunt
Not sure if the transporter offers that or not but we will def check into it. Thanks!
I just finished packing and shipping some gear up to my friends in Fairbanks. My usual strategy is to get some gear in there ahead of time. Sometimes my pilot will fly that gear in ahead of me, just to move the logistics along. I am decidedly not into ultralight moose hunting for 2 weeks. I've done it, and found it lacking. The main thing is to figure out what's really important to have, vs not. Some guys would take 200 pounds of gear in apiece if they could. I have a couple friends who fly with a service, and they take all the goods they want. They just opt to pay for an extra haul.
Things I like:
2 sets of next-to-skin merino base layers.
Goose down vest/jacket. I take both.
Camp gloves of nylon/leather. Burn them after hunt.
Good hand saw; lighter and more valuable than an axe.
2.5 gallon collapsible water jugs x 2.
Backpacker's pillow size L or XL and 2 pillow cases.
Thin paracord clothesline and few plastic pins.
Two ounces of Sportwash in little squeeze bottle.
Two small Tyvek tarps. Multiple uses and very light.
Two packs of No-Rinse brand bathing towels. Simple.
5 gallon bucket. Bring gear in it. A thousand uses in camp.
Wear your 44 magnum on you so it won't count towards your 70 pounds and fill all your cargo pockets with heavy stuff! Have a great hunt!
Good luck on your hunt Kevin. Sounds like you have it figured out.
Thanks Nick. Congrats on your recent move to the 49th state. I hope you'll be chasing a tasty something this fall.
