Aug already!! I'm sure there are lots of you planning for September hunts and this month is filled with checklists and preparation. Anticipation is killing me. First NL trip, first moose hunt. With dad for 11 days. Gonna be awesome!

That's awesome you are going with your dad! I hunted with my dad when I was a teenager, but haven't hunted with him in probably 35 years. And now with him at age 83 I don't think I ever will get to hunt with him.

But..I am looking forward to getting my son out with me when he is older. He is only 7 years old and this past winter took an archery class for a month. and, when the new Bass Pro Shop opened here in Anchorage about a month ago he shot his first rifle....albeit only an air rifle! and when he was 5 he caught his first red salmon.....a 10 pounder!!! big fish and it was more than awesome, it was hillarious. We didn't realize his pants needed a belt, and when I looked up from netting that big fish for him, he was grinning from ear to ear with his pants around his ankles!!!

I am still hoping I can talk my dad into coming up next year in the fall and going on a moose hunt with me. but, am doubtful he will come. he hates flying any more, and he lives in Vermont and I live in Alaska!

Fuzzy...be flying to deer lake sept 11th. Dad and his buddy are driving from Michigan and we meeting up there. I couldn't burn 4 days just for travel unlike the old retired guys those two are ;). Plus they are takin all my gear for me. We booked with Portland Creek hunting and fishing but they where bought off by Gros Morne outfitters. Same place , same float plane. Area 45 in owl pond. Dads friend has been there couple years ago and has begging to go back. So opening day the 13th be out there. Can't wait!

Thanks Fuzzy, we are hoping for a 650-700 lb Newfoundland fall bear. Northwood's bear products Gold Rush is what they have been using for years as an attractant scent, works great. Good Luck take lots of photos.

Lucky man PAstringking: The P&Y World Record Woodland Caribou has stood at 345 2/8's since 1966. There has recently been one entered that if it holds at Panel Measuring beats the current record by more than 30 inches. There is NO better time to have a Woody Tag than RIGHT now! Tags have been cut back 90% due to herd decline but surviving Stags are HUGE! October 8 is peak! Good luck C

I have seen the biggest stags I have ever seen the last few years. One was so close that had i been able to shoot him, the arrow may not have left the string before in impacted.

Here's the video to my moose hunt. Mostly scenery since I was rifle hunting and I jumped my moose and no time for camera.

Wanted to post it because there's some cool footage because I took a helicopter in.

Enjoy.
