Bowsiters decide which bull to mount
Moose
Contributors to this thread:
Here's something new Bowsiters. I am nearing completion of my new cabin on Lake of the Woods and Jeannine has chosen one side of the wall under the cathedral ceiling for a moose mount. Hopefully one day there will be an elk beside it. I'm posting 2 of my more recent bulls, both just over 50" and I like them both. One has great fronts but weak tops, the other great tops and weak fronts. Bowsiters get to decide here on which one gets mounted to be hung up in the spring. And thank you Bowsiter.
This one?
#1 or go back hunting for the perfect bull. Why not? You're going to mount only one.
Try the Yukon the last week of Sept to early Oct.
I vote for number 1. But talk about a consolation prize, dang.
My vote is also for #1 congrats!!
I vote for 2. As impressive as the fronts are on 1 the size and mass on 2 will be more so.
Or you could just put the fronts from 1 on 2 and have the perfect, non P&Y eligible moose:)
Both...... If only one #1
I like em both...# 2 in I have to choose
I would save room and euro both of them hanging one under the other. That would be impressive..
Congrats on ur trophies
Both great bulls but if I had to choose.....#1
Def #1 ...exceptional front brows! (I disagree about having weak tops)
The mass on #2 makes it my pick! David
By looks...#1
But which one was the better hunt? Have the one with the more memorable hunt mounted as mounts always recall the story, not so much the size of the antlers.
2 is a bow kill and one a gun???
I would mount them both! How about a pose with them fighting each other? If only one I would mount #1 and Euro #2 and both would be on that wall.
Both great bulls, you could euro both of them for way less than the price to mount one. I love my euro on the fireplace.
DJ
I'm a sucker for great fronts......so 1.
I think #2 would be more impressive, because the backs make the overall rack look bigger.
I'm surprised there aren't more votes for #2. Tops on #1 though look nice have short palms. Maybe I should have said that.
#1 is "classic" moose. 2 is a semi-freak IMO. I do like freaks, but if it's gonna be a semi-public cabin #1 would likely fit the best. If it's you're private cabin, either works pretty well.
Moose shoulder mounts are so impressive not sure it matters very much though. First thing that enters my mind when I see one is "Holy clap that's huge!" after the initial shock I'll finally get around to looking at the headgear...
#1 here, too ...
But ... personally, I don't think mounts are about the antlers as much as the experience. Taxidermy is about memories. I've got "small" critters stuffed and displayed prominently because ... it was a day I want to remember when I'm old and the weather is cold!
So ... which day were you at your best? Which bull was the best bull? (Not the biggest, but the best). Which sunset was the best. Which one reminds you of something you want to remember the most?
I gotta say, though, if they were standing side by side, I'd shoot #1!
crestedbutt, that was not the input I was looking for...
#1 would be my choice. Both great bulls!
which one has the best story? That the one i would mount.
Hey I said #2:) I am a sucker for mass. Both are great bulls.
Number 1 great fronts he will score the best
Bear Track, I'd mount whichever one your wife likes the best. :-)
Great looking critters, wish we had them in Kansas!
#1 thats some awesome fronts!!!
Mount 1 euro 2. Awesome! I want one!
I love the eye guards on 1.
Some guys have really big problems! I sure hope you can work this out! Ha Ha!
Wow... tough decision. I go with #2.
Ron, you might as well mount them both while you are at it :)
what a delimma to have....
I know nothing about moose but I like # 2.
Me either LINK, but I like #1.
For a cabin I would suggest the one you'd be the least heart broken over when it gets stolen.
Well, I like number one, however , isn't the new cabin a good reason to tell the wife you need to go get a new moose? Just trying to help you out :)
The one that was killed with archery equipment, if both or neither, then #2, both awesome bulls!!
SO far:
37 for #1 15 for #2
So Ron, which will it be? Sure you wont consider Euro one or both?
I prefer #2 with his mass.
Yer making Number 1 look bigger because u are so far from the camera. Number 2 is more impressive.
Antlers are both cut off the skulls. 5 points, you're correct. I was trying for an impressive shot. Steve, I have not decided yet. Will close this with a picture of the moose on the wall. Lots of responses like our Christmas auction. (Which is coming up)
They are both real nice and either would look great.... Which is probably why you started this. So I think I'd go with 2. Where is the cabin?
Grubby, we were lucky enough 3 years ago to have bought on Lake of the Woods near the Minnesota/Ontario border. And you're right, both are nice animals for me.
Mount #1 and have an artist paint the paddles on #2 for desk top
Bill v
I agree #2, the mass is awesome. But I wish I could have either one, really!
#1 is just a better looking moose for a mount imo.So#1 is my vote
#1 has my vote. Great looking rack.
#2 - They are both awesome bulls, but I will go with the underdog for now.
#2, Both are great. I would hang the one that has the most memorable story to go with it.
You can have best of both with the screw in antlers. Switch out #1 with #2 for something different. Which one has the better cape?
#1. All those brow tines are impressive!
Ron,
I would like to offer an alternative.....have BOTH sets of antlers "pinned". Then you can alternate the racks. Try them both and see if one really looks better than the other....and the cost to pin BOTH sets of antlers is reasonable.
Besides, you'll have a great time messing with peoples heads, when you tell them that it is the same shoulder mount as last year (assuming that you change the antlers in the meanwhile)!!!!
The last post was a really good one. I would if it were me do both with the heads facing each other or if just one it would be the first one. Bob.
Oooohhh.... right turn and left turn mounts, turned toward each other with the heads lowered a bit and glaring eyes.... just about ready to git with it....
You know you can't take the money with you don'cha? Well, ok she can but you can't.... =D
Both are great bulls, but I love the fronts on bull #1.
#2
I'm glad I only have one to choose from;>)
I know nothing about moose but #2 looks better
I like the fronts on 1 but my vote is for #2 as I think the bigger tops will look better on the wall
I hate you! Just kidding, they are both awesome. If I had to choose I would go with #1.
Hopefully #2 is going on the wall at home.
I think you should bring me to your cabin next fall i will help you decide than we can go get me one for my wall jk. #1 has some nice fronts i would mount both though.
Here is my almost completed great room overlooking Lake of the Woods. Jeannine says to put the moose on the left, leaving room for some other big antlered critter on the right. Thinking an elk would finish that end of the cabin nicely...
Kota-man, you must have quite the game room by the looks of it!
Depends on the pose, I would definitely go with a sneak on #1
put one on left and one on the right and work around them with other mounts if you don't mount those moose together you will regret it.
Bear Track I didn't know you were around L.O.W. Is tha where you do bear hunts? So I could hunt and also chase some big muskies too.
I say #1. Size doesn't trump character and I love great fronts on moose. But Medicinemann has a great idea. Get the removable antlers and change them out from time to time.
Mule Power the cabin I built is on Lake of the Woods near Baudette, MN and Rainy River, Ontario. Our bear camp is up in the middle of Manitoba.
#1 Great fronts say "trophy bull" to me. Bill
Both, they will balance out your man cave very nicely. The one on the left is 66' and the one on the right is 61".
NOW THAT MAN CAVE IS SWEET,,,,,,,,
And the envelope please.... ????
Help a brother out. NY, can we get clearer shots of each moose? BTW, love how they are looking into the room - nice touch. Other siters, can we see pix of your moose in place (preferably in a similar high spot on a wood wall? I bet the choice will be fairly easy once we see some close examples.
