Moose seasons are now starting to open across various states and provinces.
Good luck to every bowsiter who has a hunt planned.
Please share your success pics here.
To start it off here's the BC Moose I was fortunate enough to take on Aug 21. The velvet rack measured 52" wide.
Great one to start it with, Stick. Really enjoyed the story of your hunt. One of the best adventures I've read about in years.
Great job. Hope I am posting on here by the end of next week!
Nice and congrats on a fine moose.. I missed the story was it a Bowsite live hunt? Ed
Thwack, way to get it started....Counting the days! Congrats...
Teeton, yes a story is posted
here.
Best of luck Ike & Elmer!
Hope to add to this post in another month when I get back from Ak
Wow sticksender. Congratulations. I will read the story now.
Here is another monster archery bull! Matt Nezich was hunting with Mike's Outfitting in Alberta. Ok, maybe it isn't a monster bull but it doesn't have the monster price of most moose hunts. Only $4000, 1 on 1 guided. One arrow kill, well, one arrow after the warning shot was fired.
Lol...Great bull Mike, congrats to the hunter....

Ok, here is a true monster bull from Mike's Outfitting in Alberta! Still No? Well, it was only a 10 yard shot which was awesome. Guide Josh Harb expertly called it in close. Yes you can call in bulls well before the rut, in velvet is the next best time.
Todd Welch from Arkansas was the killer. Happy hunter.
Plus our moose taste better than some big ole bull and much easier to get back to your home. You can drive right to the lodge in a car, not that you would want to try to fit a dead moose in your car but you know what I mean!? Roads are good, paved.
Sticksender Awesome Bull.
4k is a great deal on a 1-1moose hunt.I may need to try for a Canadian moose in the next year or two.Was thinking of Newfoundland, but everyone does that hunt
This thread is going to start filling up soon. Good luck to those headed out. I will live through year this year as it's my "year off".
Shiras X2!
Looking forward to the pics & stories from this year!
Leave for nf in the morning. Hoping to add a pic and a story in about ten days.
Sept 8, 2015. Main Brook, Newfoundland. My first moose hunt. Ever. I drew a Bull/calf tag so no cows allowed. I was hoping for an either sex tag but that wasn't the case. I told myself I was going to shoot the first legal moose that gave me a shot. On day 2 of my 6 day hunt I did just that. I really didn't appreciate how large these animals are until it was on the ground. 2 year old bull with messed up antlers.
Congrats to all who hunt.
After killing a number of bulls, I personally would rather have 500 pounds of meat than 50 pounds of antler these days. My next hunt will be for protein...the mineral is too hard to chew. ;)
Kevin X2...now if I could only figure out how to get that much meat back to Kansas affordably, I'd be in business.
I hope to be adding to this thread soon.. Congrats to the guys who have killed and good luck to the guys heading out
Leaving tomorrow for Alaska;can't wait to try and add to this thread
Had a cow an Antlerless tag for in town this fall. I saw this moose in my yard this morning so I decided since it won't get much easier than that....
45 yard pack out to my freezer.
The only better place to shoot a moose Nick than your back yard is in the back of a truck! Well done.
I like it Nick, congrats...
Nick is that a northern panhandle moose?
Yeah...hard to tell when they are all alone I suppose. Regardless, meat in the freezer.
Nice nick, can't beat calf meat. I've shot a few animals off the yard.
Nice nick, can't beat calf meat. I've shot a few animals off the yard.
Awesome Nick! That'll be some fine dining. I'm jealous of the short pack out. Well done!
Can't imagine a better way to fill a in town antlerless tag! Must have been good shot placement with only 45 yards to end use storage.
My first moose I got Sept 9th with Conne River Outfitters. He's not a giant but I'm really happy with the fact that I actually got a bull. I got him on the 4th day of the hunt, he was the first bull we saw, it was really hot and the moose weren't moving much. 40 yard shot went about 70 yards and died. Later in the week the moose really started getting into pre rut mode. Had an awesome hunt I will never forget, just wish I had enough money to go back every year!
After a 32 year wait to draw a tag in my home state of Colorado, the season finally got underway last Saturday. My first choice Bull was shot by a Muzzleloader opening morning after they told us the day before that they would hunt somewhere else as they knew we had been watching that Bull for a long time. They found out about this Bull after a friend shared photo's and location with another friend that he thought he could trust.
This was the first year that Colorado opened both Muzzleloader and Archery season on the same day. My greatest fear all summer was that I would end up on the same mountain chasing the same Bull with a muzzleloader when the season opened. Well I ended up on the same mountain chasing the same Bull with 2 Muzzleloaders. We were the only 3 Bull hunters that drew this season, there may have also been the Goveners tag holder or the Raffle hunter hunting this unit but I am not sure where they ended up at.
Rock, That stinks, but I would say you got a damn nice consolation! Contgrats!
Rock,
Id say you did just fine sir. Congratulations!!
Rock that is a fine bull taken with a fine bow! Good job.
Darren
Great photo and outstanding Shiras Bull Rock. Congratulations.
Rock, Nice bull, congratulations. What unit?
Congrats Rock! Nice bull, bummer about the competition for the same bull, but you still ended with a great trophy of a lifetime.
Congrats Rock that is a stud of a bull!
That is a nice bull. Congratulations!
Come on guys...There's gotta be some more hitting the ground. Let's see'em and hear the stories.
Just back from my DIY hunt in Alaska.
So, Prez, did you have a good time? :-)
Beautiful bull, congratulations!
Wow prez huge bull !! Congrats!!
That is a stud of a bull. Can't believe he did not bust off any tines.
Congrats!
Awesome Prez! 63 1/2"?
Mule Power and Mixed Bag should be back and reporting soon.
Great bull prez! Congrats!
God this thread is getting me pumped. I leave tomorrow morning at 7am!!!!
2 friends leave tomorrow (Thursday) for a hunt in Newfoundland with Red Indian Lake Outfitters. Most likely a rifle hunt, but one is also taking his bow, the other is taking his muzzleloader.
I sent them an email this morning wishing them good luck!
I leave on the 22nd of October for a Newfoundland rifle hunt with a different outfitter.
It will be the first time for all of us hunting moose.

Prez.....What a great bull, way to get it done!
That is what a B&C bull looks like.
quebec moose right out my door, diy on public land. my 1st moose with a bow. 42 yrd shot and he dropped within sight if it were not for the brush.
Great bull Prez. My guess was 2 1/2" off! :) I have a 66 1/2" that is very similar.
Congratulations!
Of course she made a dash for beaver pond to pile up in.... Fun cool cow hunt. Third Colorado archery moose. Best meat in the woods. Oddly? saw a lot of solo Bulls and no cows for 1st five days. Then started seeing cows on day 6. Rut defnitely firing up by September 19 n Colo from what I saw.
A frigid retrieval for sure.
Bull my friend Carl took the morning after I headed home from our hunt. I know it's a gun kill, but Carl can no longer pull a bow due to injury, so has to use a rifle. Still an impressive animal.
Bull measured 62 inches. This was taken off the Denali Highway in central Alaska.
On this hunt it rained all14 days I was out. Had snow the last 6 days, plus snowed the 3 days after I left.
I got a nice cow caribou on this trip with a 30 yard shot.
Got a Wyoming tag burning a hole in my pocket....nothing but cows so far...headed back up tomorrow morning
I've waited a long time to add a pic to this thread...
Here it is
Congratulations Hoyt! Nice bull in shallow water!
Congrats on the moose so far guys!
11 years to draw this tag in Alberta. 15 minutes of hunting and this guy came in to 24 yards. Couldn't pass him up, although it does feel like I didn't get the full Moose hunting experience. Not complaining at all, just surprised it happened so quickly. A little over 48" wide, making him my biggest bull Moose.
Nice, congrats on a fine-looking Bull Bigfoot!
Killed this young bull Tuesday afternoon, on my birthday no less, in Alberta. Made a 15 yard lung shot and he went about 100 yards. The first moose hunt I've been on and the first moose I saw. It was awesome! We had grilled moose tenderloin in camp today for lunch.
Darren
dhaverstick, can't wait to hear all the details of the week.
Congratulations to all that have taken one.. it is the best table fare available! I just took in all of the roasts I had left from my Moose from Alaska and had it ground into burger. Now I have another 75 lbs in the top two shelves. To take one and realize how big they are only comes from doing it! Cannot wait to do it again 11 years in the draw here at home..just waiting!
I want to know about the logistics of the AK hunts. Specifically, how did you get the antlers and meat out (how much meat), and what did it cost. Congrats on all the beautiful animals and aside from the baby killer with the 40-yard recovery to the freezer (LOL) great meat assuming you got all/most of it for you and others for a long time.
Alaska bull 53 1/2" Didn't want to post on here but people asked to see it;we were rifle hunting
A friends moose from Alberta 10/3

are you related to Donald Sutherland?
Had a great hunt in Newfoundland. We had lot of rain coming from a big noreaster so we had to get 'er done. Middle of the rut, had three bulls around me when I got this one. One of them was a big boy, but he would not leave the cow he was with and day light was fading. I will never forget that luminok disappearing into that almost black hair on his rib cage, awesome!! We had 7 other hunters in camp, all friends and family. We went 8 for 8 on bulls in two days. All the others were rifle hunting though. The guides thought I was crazy for trying with my bow, but they were calling me Robin Hood by the end of it!! Check out the video on youtube at https://youtu.be/9hKJilUVLy4. Sorry the only shot on video is a rifle, but enjoy.
who did you use in newfoundland??I thinking of a trip there

My buddy and I where both fortunate enough to draw Idaho moose tags this year. We put in the draw as a party and got extremely lucky. We both took nice bulls with our bows and were able to capture the hunt on film as well. If you have a minute it's worth the watch. It was a great hunting trip and awesome to share with two of my best friends.
Great bulls guys and some fellow cali killers! Also enjoyed the video.. Thanks for sharing it.
Grats on your moose guys! Nice vid
Here is mine from Sept. Alaska story is on the way.
This past Sept. myself and 4 buddies hunted out of Kotzebue, AK. We took 5 bulls 2 bears and 2 wolves.
Big animals! Congrats to all. Paul
