Which Stinger for Africa

Decided to use Stingers for my trip to Africa this fall. Looking for advise on 100 or 125s. Have 9 or 10 of the 100 grains that fly great out to 60 yards. Do you think I need the extra 25 grains out front? Hoping to take zebra, gemsbock, kudu and maybe slip a warthog in. Cost of buying all new heads is not a big deal if you think it's worth it.
Keep the shots broadside for the mechanicals. Suggest a fixedblade for zebra per my PH's recommendation.
Focus on 20 yards. That's all I needed.
What time of hunting will you be doing- spot and stalk or waterhole?
Waterhole. Some stalking mid day.
Have never been to Africa but, I can't see why the 100's wouldn't work just fine if you put them where they need to go.
Only gain 1/16" cut going with the 125's. Could put a heavier insert if worried about weight. Good luck in Africa.
I would be using a 4-blade 125 gr. Stinger with a total arrow weight of 480+ grains. Waterhole shot should be 20 yd max, if the set up is right.
I used a 125 gr. 4 blade buzz cut on a 550 gr. arrow out of my 50# recurve. It went clean through the Kudu.
The more FOC you have, the better your penetration will be.
TBB
The 100 grain will work fine. Whatever you shoot back home and feel comforatable with will be great. Like anywhere else, shot placement and sharp blades are the most important thing.
Arrow with 100 grain weighs 410 with a 15% FOC, with the 125 it's 435 with a 12% FOC. I'm thinking the 125.
I used 125 grain, 4 blades and they did fine. Agree with Peyton as well, shoot what you are most comfortable with and bring lots of cash for the trophy fees on all the critters you will rack up. Best of luck when you go!
Jim,
Just remember that African vitals are forward that of NA game. Go straight up front leg and aim for the "big muscle" in the leg and you will do just fine. Don't shoot behind the shoulder crease unless hard quartering away.
Let animal come to water and get settled before you shoot.
Take lots of photos !!!!
You will do just fine- Good luck. Looking forward to your post after your return.
I've read the owner of Magnus's go to head is a buzzcut and it's what he hands down recommends for people with lower power set ups. Not saying you have a lower power setup but if it's better for them it's better all the way around.
"Arrow with 100 grain weighs 410 with a 15% FOC, with the 125 it's 435 with a 12% FOC." ?the heavier head has a lower FOC?
Between 100gr & 125gr; IMO not much difference, unless it affects spine and/or tuning. Now, if you went to 150's.....
LOL, I know its apples to oranges, but- I have used the 125 Stingers on Elk for years yet next BH purchase will be Buzzcuts.
OAL of arrow w/ BH is 30.25". Difference between balance point and center on the 100 grn is 2", 2.5". What am I doing wrong?
Stupid question. I had to get the heads mixed up. Had a bald moment.
LMAO.... happens to us all
Been to africa twice shot 18 animals with 100 gr buzz cuts. Wouldn't use anything else.
I would recommend the 4 blade buzzcut on all African game except cape buffalo, on cape buffalo we have had a lot of bowhunters use the 125 grain or 150 grain two blade buzzcut and stinger. if we can be of any help or you have any questions, please email me,
