I own a Excalibur Exocet 200. I was planning on purchasing the new SKB Case for X-Bows however the Exocet limbs are too wide to fit. I looked at the Plano Manta today and I'm questioning the durability and toughness of the case to withstand the rough air travel, especially with a scope to protect. I have heard of some guys breaking down their X-Bows and using a double rifle hardcase to transport them. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, what case do you use? Pros & Cons? Also, are there any different rules that I should be aware of with crossbows in Africa?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in Advance G-RUSS
Suggest checking with your outfit for poss gear to borrow. It would make traveling much easier especially returning through customs in the US.
Enjoy your trip.
BTW - Crossbows are completely OK in South Africa. But, the baggage folks direct all hard-sided sports cases to the Police for screening at the international airport in RSA. You'll just need to show them your baggage tag and let them sign it in prior to taking possession in South Africa. While this is not a legal requirement in RSA, it is the default practice for all sports cases.
Also, get a letter of invitation from your safari outfitter confirming that you're coming there to hunt. Again, this should only be required for firearms, but crossbows are still not common there and the screeners may ask for one.
Hope this helps.
