Trying to decide on forms/poses for shoulder mounts on eland, Impala, wildebeest, bushbuck, and waterbuck. Let's see what you've got. Have never had a wall pedestal mount....what do you guys have have them think? Thanks!

Of the species you requested I only have Impalas.

Here is a full Pedestal McKenzie RT form on my first African animal- a 26" archery Ram.

I am a huge fan of WP mounts. I don't really like them right next to another one, but if you mix it up I think it really adds to displaying your stuff.

Looking at this for my potential elk this fall when I finally put my tag on bull, check out Trufitts website they have some great forms.

I like wall pedestal mounts. They look good mixed in with regular shoulder mounts. Here is a good example with my two Impalas. I would definitely get a wall pedestal mount on your Bushbuck.

I love wall pedestals and have had several done. They add a new dimension to the mounts. Some I do with a little scenery, some without. I like a little fake rock for mtn animals with a wall pedestal

That shield is way too cool & a great project for backskins.

Yes, thanks, I was wondering what to do with my waterbuck backskin and voila this seemed to work. I made the frame from oak hardwood, routed (rounded) the corners steamed the two sides in a 4" PVC pipe and bowed them onto a jig to secure while they cooled. You only have a minute or two to do it out of the steam. I used kudu and waterbuck backskin cut into strips for lashing, Impala backskin (white belly) for the inset vertical ribbons woven on each side, Kudu tail spiraled at top with red hardebeest tail (black) spiraled on top of that. Finally the small tail dangling near the top is from my springbok. So, actually five species of antelope are incorporated.

It was patterned after Zulu shields which are made of hardened cowhide (rawhide) without an outside frame but hey, who cares. The lion spear I bought from a Masai warrior in Tanzania in 1974. I don't think they named their lions either, just killed them single-handed in order to enter into full manhood in that society.

... thanks Rich, I'm going to have to make me a shield. If my wife will let me... wow, I never say that... but, she really loves the backskins more than the mounts.

If I ever make it to Africa I'm going to try and take one of those little steenbok. Everytime I see the miniature things I get fascinated all over again.

From: kscowboy

Cheque, just up the ante and go for the "Small Five". Species and countries I harvested them are below:

Duiker (Botswana and Zim) Steenbok (Botswana) Grysbok (Zim) Klipspringer (Zim) Oribi (Tanzania)

I completed mine (quest started in 2001) this last trip with my Oribi. Our PH, who is frequently on TV and often a panelist at conventions, was laughing his butt off about how he's "never spent so much f-ing time glassing Oribi on a safari". We got a great "bull" and then I had to focus on a "bull" Dik Dik. Yes, put one of those in the salt.

It really makes you appreciate the diversity of the continent. As a young child, I was always fascinated with my father's Duiker and I think that's were my little antelope passion began.

Appreciate everything you take over there. You never know when your best trophy of the entire trip is the one with 2" horns!
