Now that most of the African Bow hunting season is done in Africa, let's see some of your animals. If you know the score, please share that too.

See attached link for a bunch of African critters taken in June at Agagia Hunting in Namibia.

My scores are as follows:

Southern Greater Kudu 119 6/8" (SCI Bronze Medal) (photo taken in the daylight)

Blue Wildebeest 73" (SCI Bronze Medal)

Warthog 29 10/16" (SCI Bronze Medal)

All 3 animals are officially in the record book.

PAStringking that is a cool hyena you took. Congrats on an unusual trophy.

That thing looks like a damn warewolf! Would like to hear the story on that one! Nice!

I wish I would have seen one of those...... JW saw one and didn't know if he was allowed to shoot on our trip. My next trip there may have a really odd wish list, but a big hyena is on it for sure...

PA

How are you going to have your hyena mounted?

From: PAstringking
22-Sep-15
Thanks guys. It was a rare trophy that I was after specifically in this area of the Limpopo. It is a Brown Hyena and yes they are ugly as sin.

This particular species of Hyena is not importable to the US...which was totally OK with my wife!!

His skull will most likely be top 10 SCI which is just a bonus to the extremely cool hunt. I am having a reproduction skull made in SA that will be sent home with the rest of my animals.

My PH and I were set up in a small ground blind about 40 yards from a bait site. The site consisted of a metal steak pounded into the ground with the Civet Cat I shot the night before attached to it.

After about 15 minutes of sitting perfectly still, no talking or moving...I started to hear what I thought was sticks breaking. It is SOOO dark that I cant even see my PH sitting next to me but I stay perfectly still and try and control my breathing. Whatever is outside the blind is getting very close...like 5 feet close...and is breathing heavily. The sounds of breaking sticks seems awfully loud...which I come to find out later is the Hyena crunching old bones within 5 feet of the blind.

The bait is lit up with a small LED flood light. I see a dark object move across my blind hole...and then move back again. At this point my PH whispers "shoot if you can!!"

I cant see a damn thing...let alone something to shoot at. He starts a countdown...which I quickly realize is when he is going to light it up with the spot light. I quickly get ready...light goes on and boom...there he is standing at 30 yards. A shot and a bark later...he was dead.

I was shaking like a leaf on a Kansas cottonwood

That Hyena might be the ugliest critter I've seen in my life! Was he standing upright on his back legs when you killed him? Ha ha he looks like a creature from a scary movie! Good work and great trophies.

Great story! One of the more unique Africa hunts I have ever seen.

Really cool.

They were importable until just a few years ago. I don't really think they are as ugly as accused, if you see them "on the hoof". Here is a video of one that gave me the rare opportunity to see it during daylight hours. Since I knew they had just recently made them non-importable, I chose not to shoot it.

When I got back to the lodge and showed the owners the video, they asked why I didn't shoot it! Just minutes after this guy left, I also had two Honey Badgers come in. Those would have been another first for me as well, but I chose not to shoot them either. I'm not sure what I was thinking that day, but I just enjoyed seeing and photographing them.

Marvin. nice video, Seen plenty of spotted but only one Brown. I know that in RSA you will need a government permit ahead of time to hunt honey badger. They are protected but allowances for limited permits are made to property owners and hunt operations. Went through that last year. You want to go to the Desert Bighorn Banquet on Saturday? I may have a free seat for you at our table. Rich

Damn T-roy...

Looking at all of your animals again is really impressive. I had nowhere near the collective quality of trophies on my first African hunt. But,then again, I didn't hunt at Limcroma on my first hunt.

That sable will be bigger for you on the next trip...
