How much do rubber boots cut down on ur scent left o ground?
Depends on where the rubber boot has been walking prior to walking in the woods. It is not magic- scent control must be practiced and all times on all clothing and footwear, even rubber boots.
Thats what I use and I believe in them .The cheap $16.00 a pair uninsulated farmers boots. I have had deer under my stand and not spook on several occasions. Even when they are new and smell like rubber they do not seem to leave scent. By contrast I have not had a deer cross my trail when waring leather or synthetic .I have watched from my stand while deer 3 hundred yards away from me bump into my path that I came in on, and stand there and sniff and then turn back the way they have come from. I am not including deer that were already running from being driven or bumped. As far as cold I have always used boot blankets once I get to my stand. I have never had to leave from cold feet. They don't cost much and they work for me.
i'am not a deer, but even i can smell rubber 50yrds+. I cant smell vibrum, and nylon, as for scents left to ground who knows, but its not just the ground, its also your pants, and any thing you touch. I've made a large c patern and got in stand do to wind and the way i expected deer to come from, and watched them following my trail licking every thing i touched clean, cant say if all do this, but sure made me thank a bit.
I have a pair of cut off waders , planning on walkin in a creek then when I get to my hunting site spray down I'm very careful to not touch many twigs on my way in, u think it wld work?
None.
They are great for getting cold, damp feet. Great for slipping off frosty tree steps. Great for walking in shallow water.
About the same as tennis shoes in terms of a deer not smelling where you walked.
Smell your hands far more than feet. Smell your hat the quickest.
This will be my 57th year to deer hunt. Been pretty successful at it. Can't think of a time I've known for a fact a deer smelled where I walked. Can sure think of plenty of times I've seen them walk the same trail I have going to a stand and can recall a few they smelled where I put my hands.
Keep your boots clean and quit worrying about it. You'll enjoy hunting a lot more.
Very little to none. If I hunt near cow pastures, then I try and get cow poop on my shoes. If I see deer droppings I walk through it.
But the elite, pro, idol, bow hunter's ware them, when they hunt their private land, and they get only big buck$, all the time!
I like them because they keep me dry and are easy on and off. On another note: I was wearing my cordora boot with the vibram sole. I had a little buck come to the the trial I walked in on. Before he crossed it he smelled mt track and JUMPED over the trail like he was jumping a creek. True the vibram is rubber...but the leather/cordora the boot is made of holds scent and touches everything while walking.
nylon man , nylon, but who knows what scent he picked up, some boots made from vinyl, cant smell them as much.
I've had different results than what most have posted here. My brother in law has to walk right by my stand to get to his favorite spot. He wears some kind of hiking boot made of a leather type product. Deer are constantly crossing his trail and smelling him. I've specifically seen deer stick their noses down close to the ground, get a sniff and spook.
I don't know how well he takes care of his boots. I know my rubber boots live in the garage within close proximity to the lawn mower, weed eater, and gas can. Before I leave the house in the morning to go hunting, they get rinsed off with water. Normally, I'll stop at a creek and give them a little additional cleaning. I have never seen deer act spooky with my back trail like they do with my bro's back trail. Never.
Well like I said the knew I have are cut off waders, I'm not cometely sure exactly what they're made of, the def look like rubber but I'm not 100% sure
