Spott Hogg moveable sight

I had a MBG Ascent 5 pin slider on my previous bow. I loved the design of this site with the five fixed pins and also the ability to slide out for longer shots. But I must say, I was very unimpressed with it's durability. Twice I had the slider head loosen up on me on hunts. Even when tight, it still feels fragile and has some movement when twisted. I've just lost condifence in it.
So does Spott Hogg make a sight of the same design, but with their usual bombproof construction? I went to the SH site, but got confused with all the options. I trying to decide whether to go this route, our go back to my tried and true 7 pin Hunter Hogg It.
I've got a 5 pin Tommy Hogg, use the TapPro software for the tape, the bottom pin as my floater and I'm real happy with it. The Tommy Hogg works if you've got a bow mounted quiver otherwise you can use the Boss Hogg.
It's a heavy sight and well built but you've got to have all the screws tight (or properly adjusted) otherwise it will rattle.
Yeah what is the real difference between the Tommy and the Boss? Why does the quiver matter? I'm using a Tight Spot quiver.
Nate, on the Tommy the adjustment dial is towards the front and on the Boss it sits to the rear. If running a Tight Spot you would need a Tommy or a Hogg Father which is an adjustable dovetail. And it is bomb proof

i have the Tommy on mine and I shoot with a tight spot quiver. it put the dial out in front of the quiver. works great.
Nate, I vote for you go back to the 7 pin Hunter Hogg it. "tried and true", you said it not me! You're not going to kill anything flinging arrows past 80 yards anyway so what's the point.
Yeah Andy, I'm kinda leaning that way, but the idea is cool. Less cluttered sight window. Target practice out to 100+, and the ability to dial into exact bastard yardage. No gapping.
i should restate that: I have the Tommy with 7 pins. Sorry for the confusion.
SDHNTR,
Those are the reasons I went to the Tommy Hogg and I really like having the ability to practice to 100+ yards and only having 5 pins is real nice too.
Yep I love the set up of that 5 pin Ascent, it just feels so cheesy. Feels like a minor fall would snap it right off.
Just buy a 5 pin Tommy and you won't regret it....nothing better than the ability to hold your pin right where you want to shoot over 60 yards......DO IT!!!!!!
Does the Tommy Hogg have individual micro adjust pins?
Don't do it! Just thought that was necessary after Doug's post. I've actually considered that sight for a while too. I just keep going back to my tried and true fixed pins. I do like the idea of the adjustable pin but it just seems like another thing for me to forget to do during my shot sequence/buck fever/blackout phase.
The one I have has the same micro adjustable pins as other multiple pin Spott Hogg sights. That said I can understand your confusion after looking at the pics on the website. I have a new 5 pin on order for my new bow that should be here next week so I'll know if they changed anything when it comes in.
The tommy with 5 pins is set up and adjusted the same as the other spot Hoggs. Then you can move the sight so your bottom pins can be dialed into an exact yardage. The entire pin housing will move, but you will use the bottom pin to shoot. Then you just dial your pin housing back to your starting position. My bottom pin is 60, so if your shot is under 60 you will shoot it off your 5 fixed pins, longer than 60 you dial the yardage in and shoot. You could dial in your 60 to say 45, but if you are looking to do that you should get a single pin and dial all of them. The 5 pin tommy is perfect for how I like to shoot.
DO IT!!!!!!
I have shot both the Tommy and boss sights and they are built like a tank.
I set my 5 pins up and use the top pin as my slider. I hold it better on target. Good from 20-110.
You can pick any pin to designate as your slider. Just make sure to set it back to your zero like Doug said so your 5 pins are back on.
Matt
Doug, that is exactly how I have the Ascent set up too. I like it. Now, do I want a small or large sight ring? I know I'm weird but I shoot with a tiny peep.
I use the large pin guard but I use the biggest titanium G5 peep made. With the string angle at my draw the white ring just fills the peep and it works real well in low light.
Nate, small without question. Realize the entire pin guard slides, so you get more adjustment with small as you can only go so far before your. Abe's will start to have contact with pin guard.
Matt has to be shooting very fast bow to use 20 as slider and still have clearance or he has a pretty low anchor or high peep.
That should be Vanes not Abe's.....auto correct sucks at times...
Also, DO IT !!!!!!!
Too many moving parts and WTH is an Abe? Lincoln?
Don't do it!!!!
Makes sense Doug. I have a small size on my Ascent, just wasn't sure what size the small was on the SH.
I shoot the small housing. I am not shooting that fast of a bow but do have about a six inch gap from loop to peep. Haven't had any issues with this setup.
Matt
Andy an Abe is secret stuff......only mainlanders know what it means.
Just pulled the trigger on a 5 pin Tommy Hogg. Ouch, that hurt the wallet. It better be all that and a bag of chips or I'm blaming Doug and Matt ;-)
I think I will shoot a multi-pin slider this year, but 5 pins? No way.
I'm thinking 3 pins, 30/40/50 yards with the slider taking the amber bottom pin taking me to 80 yards. Just for fun, not to shoot at a critter.
I won't have my sight aperture cluttered with 5 pins. I want to see the deer in low light, and that means my short pin is 30 yards, and I don't think I need fixed pins out to 70, since I'm going to have to laser range find a deer that is beyond a 50 yard landmark anyway. Then I've got the time, and the cover, to adjust a slider.
SD, let me know how it goes. I was very curious on the whole movable thing.
WTH, fhr? You play here too? There went the neighborhood!
I think it was Doug that said 'do it' about 5 times ;) I don't think u will be disappointed.
Nate DID IT!!!!! You will love it.
