Total Hunting Licenses Sold 1,109,667
I'm trying to get a national hunter count, for Texas it would be 1,106,181 after subtracting the non-resident licenses sold as these hunters most likely bought a hunting license in their home state.
Total number of Texas hunters is 1,061,181. Please post your state's number.
Thanks in advance.
Anecdotal evidence of more and more CA big game hunters hunting exclusively out of state especially those who used to hunt public land [apx 20% of CA].
I can see your point in excluding nonresidents, but I think we need to count them. Separately from residents for sure, but count them. They hunted didn't they?
Lessee now ... Texas is about 1 for 23 on resident licenses ... that comes to about 4.35%, no?
So far all I have for Idaho is that our 2006 estimated population was 1,466,465. About 166,000 more than I thought.
The Old Sarge
Deer A: 151,832 Resident, 25,513 Non resident
Elk: 127,692 Resident, 18,667 Non resident
Antelope, bear, sheep, goat, moose etc would be harder for me to find. If you want a good solid number, I am sure the FWP can find some better numbers for you... I have no data on how many of those numbers are overlaps, and it certainly doesn't count those who only hunt upland birds or waterfowl...

Lot of deer, bear on the rise, tough to get permission or too close to homes. License fees through the roof. Bow season split so you need to buy 2 licenses, one in the guise of a extended season permit in addition to a buck tag that costs as much as the license which limits you to hunt in one zone only.
