Message from the Chairman

Greetings AZSFWC members! You haven't heard from us in a while, but let me assure you, our organization and member groups continue moving forward in our efforts to help wildlife and habitat, as well as keeping sportsmen and women informed on issues critical to all of us in Arizona.

Some of our members recently expressed concern with some proposed legislation, HB 2072. However, AZSFWC did not sponsor HB 2072, nor introduce HB 2072. We did hear an overview of the bill at our December Board meeting, and the Board voted to support the concept. We viewed the benefits as presented for sportsmen and women, youth, access and wildlife, not to mention Arizona's economy, as very positive.

Part of our Mission is education, and we'll endeavor to keep you informed, even on controversial subjects. Last fall we brought up the Mexican Gray wolf in one of our newsletters. Feedback on that one ran the gamut from we didn't know what we were talking about, to gratitude and thanks for the update! We'll try to keep you informed and let you decide your own position on the matter. Since that message, the USFWS continues with their wolf assessment and recovery plans, and we hope to learn more about the details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Congress is considering legislation to move management of the wolves back to the states. And last but not least, the Center for Biological Diversity is holding a seminar next week on "Lions, Wolves and Bears". You can draw your own conclusions as to what might come out of that meeting.

In 2011, the AZSFWC/WCC distributed over $112,000 in project funds from our license plate funds. We anticipate even more funds being granted towards wildlife, habitat and education projects in 2012! We had a couple organizations decide not to join us this year, which was unfortunate. However our recruitment efforts haven't ended, and at our February Board meeting voted unanimously to bring in as new members the Arizona BASS Federation Nation, Arizona Chapter of Safari Club International and Arizona Houndsmen's Association.

As we come into the Spring Banquet Season, I would urge you to make a donation to our member organizations, and even better, attend one of their fundraising events! There is still time to attend the AZ Antelope Foundation fundraiser this weekend, and the AZ Deer Association fundraiser next weekend. Please refer to our calendar below for additional events hosted by our member groups. Help them make a difference!

Yours in Conservation, Jim Unmacht

So there you have it folks. We've been waiting a month for the dust to settle and this is what comes out.

Basically............We had nothing to do with it, but now we think it's a great idea.

Not only are AZSFW & AZSFWC in bed together, they have the same mailing address and share board members. Is it possible to have a thinner veil? A piece of paper does not excuse the abortion that was HB 2072. They are both guilty. They are both guilty in promising not to bring wealth tags to Arizona. They are both guilty of being the driving force behind what I consider to be the worst single event prostitution of wildlife attempt in US history. All after they promised they wouldn't, in an effort to drum up new members.

Simply setting up a seperate org on paper to deflect negative agendas doesn't cut it. That is exactly what Don Peay did when he formed Big Game Forever, apart from SFW. It's just a political joke.

Liars are liars.

Wildlife pimps are wildlife pimps.

Must be pure coincidence that many members of the AZSFWC board got totegther on 12/16/11 and donated over $6000 to congressman Weiers who introduced this legistlation 3 weeks later as an emergency bill....

C&P from another forum. Latest message from AZSFWC (AZSFW is one in the same):

Technically he is right. They did not sponsor or introduce HB2072 because none of them are legislators! They did, however, undoubtedly draft the bill in question, and paid Rep. Weiers $6187 during their December 16th meeting to sponsor/introduce it for them. They are not fooling anyone.

The AZ Secretary of State keeps records on all political contributions. This is from the Jerry Weiers 2012 political committee. The same Jerry Weiers who sponsored HB2072. These contributions totalling over $6000 were all made on December 16, 2011. 3 weeks before this emergency bill was created/made public. Coincidence? Maybe some of these names look familiar?

To add to Zim's post, this is part of an open letter from AZSFW.

Note, it's not from AZSFWC, which by the way, shares the same address and at least one board member.

"OPEN LETTER FROM ARIZONA SPORTSMAN FOR WILDLIFE

In our effort to improve things that we see as very problematic for sportsmen and wildlife, we made a significant error in not providing information to the Sportsmen community on HB 2072 before introducing it at the Legislature. We apologize for our mistake."

So, AZSWFC didn't sponsor the bill but the Org sharing the same address and people did. These people think we/you are really stupid.

How STUPID do all these 'SFW/BGF Franchises' think the 2012 Hunters/Sportsman of this era are?

How freaking weak is their latest 'kool-aid' release.

Can Colorado Sue SFW/BGF-Wyoming over the Wolf Scam as those Wyo wolves are certainly going into Colorado....way before the money grab--fight the wolf SFW/BGF FS transplant....

Good luck, Robb

"How STUPID do all these 'SFW/BGF Franchises' think the 2012 Hunters/Sportsman of this era are"?

i don't know bout that but it's not saying much for their paid members. do their members really believe the stuff thats laid out before them?

The AZSFW thinks that the average hunter is too stupid to use the Arizona Legislation Information System. A big mistake on their part. We learned about HB 2072 within a few hours of filing on Friday Jan. 6th. We killed it within 4 days. The AZSFW has no clue on how to communicate with our sportsmen yet they always claim to represent thousands of us.

Congrats on killing HB2072. The next target should be AZSFW. I'm in NM, but would love to help in any way I can.

It is disapointing to see some of the names up there, Floyd Green (Outdoorsmans/Wilderness Athlete) and Chris Denham.

arctic, Threads are still here. I think there are a ton of hunters who don't pay attention to these issues. They just want to go hunting and figure there are orgs out there looking out for everyone's hunting interests................like SFW! Haha.

23-Feb-12
Agreed, Zim! And very many of those hunters swallow the lies because they don't know the facts or are too busy (lazy?) to get them.

Others still are only interested in what they as indivduals can gain and don't care one bit what happens to anyone else.

$6000???

That's all it takes?

Sarge, I can't believe they almost snuck through that LO bill in your state. Did you read the wording on that? What is SFW up to there?

TD, Yes that certainly is hard to believe, huh? $6,000 to buy, what $5,000,000 in tags??? Scarey. And that Weiers had a long track record of being the best promotor for sportsman's issues in the AZ legislature! They bought the best! Very scarey prospects for the future. Hunters need to wake up everywhere and contact their legislators.

23-Feb-12
What's SFW up to in Idaho? Setting themsleves a nice table with all our provisions. Working to lock up hunting for those with deep pockets and friends with same. Pushing out the competition (average hunters) so they can skim the cream.

Sounds like business as usual for them.

Guys, this issue is not dead. Just because the bill was shot down doesn't mean it can't be attached to another bill. I have heard that they may attempt to get this through again. Stay diligent and keep your eyes open.
