I did change my 1st choice unit as it seems ever since Steve wounded and didn't recover his bull but then went viral and in his hunting DVD on how he did get it back..... in my normal every 3 years draw early date unit----I 'aint' been able to draw it....
I offer up to TJ to be his camp-jack most every year he draws---ya think he is into Pay it Forward now? haha

Called today.. they said it takes a few days and its by anoutside company and its all automated...If a card is declined they will call the customer and input manually...there is your AZ update... im already tearing up....still hope...

Thanks for the update elktrax! it isnt me thats gonna be tearing up as much as my dad. he turns 66 this year and is retiring and has been looking forward to this hunt for almost 10 years as his last big trip he hunts in. then hell be the best damn glasser, driver, camp cook, packer i could ask for!!!! Thats why were takin 3 weeks if we draw so we can try to get him a good bull first and foremost.

Azbugler. 06!!!!!...wow....i couldnt handle it....i have to ask..do u only put in for bull?...the last two years i had left over tags.. was fun but did more glassing than hunting...Great time with my son. He called a spike in and it bedded 20yds behind him.....and i had a cow tag in my pocket.. Seems like the draw has changed over the years to jjust a random pick...Points mean nothing... Some hunters with Zero points getting top tier units etc....I guess $$ is what eveything is about now... I hope you get a tag.......

Elktrax, thanks. I do only put in for bull. I also normally put in for really easy to draw hunts too (in comparison). Now that I am up there with points I am being more selective. However, after my next draw I will start putting in bull/cow. Three tags in 20 years for me. Enough is enough! It's frustrating to say the least.

The year I drew my Utah elk tag . There were guys on here that were getting there cards charged two days before the weekend. My charges didn't show up till the next Tuesday. So don't give up hope.

You guys might want to look at "available credit" on you credit card statements....not just transactions. Sometimes the actual transactions take longer to post.
When I drew Utah elk a few years ago, folks were celebrating credit card hits for days. I was depressed as my card showed no transaction. But then I noticed my available credit several hundred lower than it should have been. A day or two later, the transaction got posted.
Just a thought.....

I don't do Co. I have lots of deer points in Nevada. I will just do bonus points for deer in Nevada. If I draw my az elk. I just hope its out before the Nevada deadline.

Bigdan, the NV deer archery season is so early, you could do that hunt and still hunt AZ elk, they barely overlap.

The two trips would be to much in the same year. And yes I'm out of the elk game in both Nevada and Utah I can do Utah in 2015 and Nevada in 2016. I will still do sheep in Nevada But I don't want a Deer tag if I draw Az elk. I have my Montana elk tag in pocket. And I will hunt the first two days in the Montana season before I head to do AZ.

Bob I may be that guy. Not confirmed yet but I think I done screwed up big time. I have wanted to kick my own ass since late last week. There was about 12 hrs of pure excitment and joy. Then I checked my draw codes. Somehow someway my 2nd choice is a cow tag.
Not happy one bit have spent hours on the phone with AZ F&G trying to get something done.
Seven points on a friggin cow tag makes me want to puke.
Anyone with ideas or advise on getting my points back please let me know.
PS - Check and double check and triple check your applications. The online system does not make your application free of errors.

Hope you win your first choice bighouse.
Whoever runs the website really needs to color coordinate the drop down selections and it'd solve a lot of these yearly errors.
Make cow tags pink, rifle hunts hunter orange, early archery green, late hunts brown.
ML tags could be rainbow colored :)

The biggest problem is, because of the design of the drawing process, you almost assuredly drew the cow tag in the bonus round and you never even were considered for your first choice. If you apply for a second choice that takes less than the number of bonus points that you have, they will never even look at your first choice at all! I think that's a huge flaw in the system, but G&F doesn't seem to think it's a big deal.

Stick, it's impossible for the draw computer to consider a 2nd choice before a 1st. It can't happen.
What can and does happen, is you are unsuccessful in drawing a 1st choice, draw your 2nd, then see your 1st choice has leftover tags. That scenario is a function of 1st and 2nd choices being considered in the Bonus Pass, the Bonus Pass being 20% of the tag allocation, and the hunt being undersubscribed.

Bob, agreed. I DID say in the bonus round, and it would occur as you described. However, having leftover first choice permits in an undersubscribed hunt is not the only situation where that "glitch" in the methodology can hurt you. That's just the one that Game & Fish confesses to, and the only one of which a few hunters are aware because it's obvious. G&F claims this is a minor issue that only hurts a few Javelina and the occasional deer hunter, but that is absolutely not true. It hurts lots of elk hunters, turkey hunters and plenty of others, I assure you.
It can hurt you just as much if you apply for a second choice hunt that has easier draw odds than your first choice, so effectively it can hurt anyone in any species drawing.
If you have enough bonus points to be in the 20% pool with your second choice, but not enough to be there with your first choice, you will always be issued your second choice without ever even having the tiniest fraction of a chance of getting your first choice. Your application might as well have not had a first choice.
Currently, the only solution that G&F suggests is to not list a second choice. I think penalizing us by not giving us two choices, for a problem with their system, is hardly a solution.

Every application except those with zero points goes thru the bonus pass. The computer looks at 1st choice then 2nd choice. If I have 5 points and apply to unit 9 1st choice and a cow hunt 2nd choice, the computer will look at unit 9 first then go to my cow choice. I'm the one who picked the 2 hunt codes. The fact that I had no chance at unit 9 is something I should have known. We have 2 hunt choices, how we use them is up to us. A nr with 5 points applying for 9 and 10 just as well applied for a point.

Chances are we would have had the results had 40 million debit and credit card accounts not been compromised earlier in the year. I would imagine it is taking some time to contact all the would be tag holders in order to update their credit card info if they missed the update deadline. I had a friend who found out Capital One cancelled and reissued his card after the deadline. G&F told him that their phones where ringing off the hook with people in the same boat. They also stated that they would make an effort to make phone contact with any would be tag holder if their card was declined.

Fish and Game Departments really are just machines, computers, I hope. It has been days since they hit our credit cards and have received the funds. Are they just sitting at some desk giggling about hitting the send button that posts the results? All the while knowing our guts are churning daily as we check the "machine" three times a day. Sure I know I drew a great tag. But, how great? First choice awesome unit, or second choice, that I wouldn't kick out of bed! Hey its Arizona. They draw, they run cards, they call bounced apps, they back fill, then they run audit reports. Then, it must be gettin close! My records say April 18, 2012 and April 4th 2013. Guess it will be 8th to 10th 2014. It is like waiting for two draw results in the same state.

Dan, let me clear the suspense for you. If you had 11 points and put unit 9 as first choice and unit 8 as 2nd choice, I give you a 99.99% of a unit 8 tag and .01% chance for 9. No matter what, you are hunting AZ Bulls in September. Congratulations!

Since you are not in the max point pool with 2nd choice unit 9 but you are in the max pool with your first choice unit 8, you drew 8. Unless there was a massive influx of NR applicants who applied for unit 8 and had more than 11 points, you are hunting AZ.
Good luck on your hunt. It's going to be tough beating the last bull you took in 8.

I don't think I will even see a bull like my last one there. This will be my third hunt in 8 I know more about 8 than any other unit in Az. I didn't really want any other tag in Az except 8. I just hope they are posted tomorrow.

Nope. They make you pay for your hunting license up front and a small fee for processing your application. You don't get charged for the actual tag unless you are drawn.

As all have stated, you only need to pay in advance with a paper application. Arizona's banking laws prevent them from being able to charge you in advance by credit card for any species.

As far as this year's results, they still have the spring drawing results listed on the phone line. That will have to disappear before they even begin loading fall results, which takes a few days. They appear to be still at least two days or more away from posting fall results.

I'll tell you about small world. The last time I hunted unit 8, Big Dan told me where to go and Stickflinger took showers in my motel room when he stunk too bad to hunt.
It seems Arizona elk tags brings good people together.

BB has shared many pics from that bear hunt with Bigdan. That's why I thought it would be good to have him in AZ for the elk hunt. That would be a fun camp to visit.

Now it really is a small world. I hunted antelope with BB in Wyoming and he took up all the room in the blind with his camera toys. I came all the way from AZ to hunt with him a couple years back. Although I never met him in person we talked on the phone 10-12 times before we ever met. I rolled in to his camp around 10:30 at night and met BB and his son Cody in person. I swear we were the only people out there for miles and miles. You can imagine what was going through my mind when the first question he asked me when I came in to his trailer was "what do you think about porn?". I thought, oh crap, what did I get myself into. That is Bill's sense of humor. He went on to show me pictures of a male antelope mounting another male antelope after it had been shot. If you hunt with Bill, you will not get bored.
I sold sporting goods equipment with stickflicker way back in 1984 when I was going to college. We have remained in close contact all these years and I still consider him a close friend. Although we don't hunt a lot together because he holds out for the hard to draw hunts, we still manage to camp, scout or shoot 3D's together every year. Marvin is probably the most analytical person I have ever met. I love to sit around a campfire at night and pick his brain about antelope behavior and trophy hunting in general.
By the way, I would have made Marvin take a shower outside in all that monsoon rain you got that year.

I went up to unit 9 and meet up with Marvin to call for him. We got into a bunch of bulls. But 1/2 way into are morning hunt. Marvin was out in front of me and he went right I went left. After he was gone I called in several bulls. Three hours after I had last seen him. I called him on my cell. And he was back at the truck. I left and went back to Flag. The next morning I didn't get my wake up call. So we never got to hunt the second day. I had to fly out the day after.
