Where do the South San Juan Wilderness elk winter? South towards Chama or Chromo or Conejos? All these directions?

Generally how many exist in the herd or the sum of its various sub-herds?

Thanks, fellas.

South San Juans...Most of the cows, calves and small bulls migrate onto the Jic Reservation, or the big ranches on the Colorado/New Mexico border, where they get hunted till the end of December by the outfitters and Indians. The elk herd here is on the decline, has been for years. The biggest population will be on the Banded Peak Ranches, Crowley Reserve. September on the Banded Peak Ranch is an elk hunters paradise. Not huge bulls, mostly 300" plus, but with a few 340" bulls killed and some bigger. Last year, a bull was videoed and guestmateed to be in the 380" range, seen twice, but never killed...
