Multi-Reed Diaphragms
Elk

Pulled out my diaphragms that I used last year. The double and triple reeds were stuck together and sounded like crap. Any tips on keeping them from sticking after use? TD I know you're watching.
They make little plastic separators for that. You can use pieces of toothpicks as well.
most of them are only good for a year, make new ones every year.
Try soaking them in a little Sprite, or other carbonated beverage, for a few hours.
Don't worry about them sticking together as all the sound comes off the longest reed. The other reeds being 2-3 only add tension and depth to the sounds.
The reeds being stuck together have zero bearing on the sound.
I never use a diaphragm call more than one season. I just hate a wore out call. But, they do make little separators for the reeds.
im very bad at them so i never use them.
I'm lucky to get a couple thru one hunt before they're toast. If you are using them off season for practice, rinse them after use and store them in the fridge to keep the nasty stuff from growing on them.
Take your call and put it into a cup of water and let it soak. The reeds will seperate.
After you use the call store it in a mix or 50/50 water and mouthwash.
Heheheh.... yup.... got me... Death, Taxes, Bowsite....
May not matter ya lucky bugga... I hear those NM bulls come running with any little squeak 'r squawk.... =D
I blow mine out of shape before they get a chance to stick.... Mostly I think they mess up from stretching out. The latex goes bad to over time too. After a few months I'm not sure if they are salvageable.
What they said, a soak in water and mouthwash is what I'd heard. I've heard guys say the latex lasts longer if the store em in the fridge. (Coach would toss mine out guaranteed though...) And buy another seasons worth of new ones.....Unless you can get sponsored like Bigdan.... be nice to get a case of em and go through it for the very best ones.... =D
Redneck are you new to hunting or just bow hunting?
I hardly get more than a day or two out of them. I have never had a call work that I used the year before. I go through 12 to 18 reeds a year. just get new ones.
What diaphragms would you guys recommend for a beginner?
Keep in mind that if using one for a period of time, bad bugs are going to take root in them. A dilute solution of mouthwash can help keep them sanitized. Too strong of a mouthwash can ruin them.
Many times, over a month long turkey season with intermittent usage, I have developed a cough and/or sore throat!

Ok I make all my on mouth calls. I have some very good friends that compete on the highest levels in turkey calling competitions. Never never never ever soak your diaphragms in water. Period. I have been using some of the same diaphragms for three years and I hunt with them almost every day of turkey season in the spring. If you do anything use mouth wash and mix it with water half and half. Let it set for thirty seconds max. Take it out and wash with clean water then place the calls on a paper towel to dry. Every time u finish using a call with multiple reeds. Take flat toothpicks and keep the top reed separated. And always store in cool dry places. I keep mine in butter box year around with exception of turkey season. Don't leave them in direct sunlight either
Hope this helps
Sorry about the video. I have no idea how it ended up on there.
