So I drew the second archery hunt in 16e, but do not know much about the area. I was hoping to get a little advice on areas that I should look into when I go scout and when the actual hunt starts in September. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Jason

Also, I am not new to the site so I am not just here to get your hot spot. I am a life long native New Mexican and had to get a new username on the site recently Thanks again

You packing in on horses or hiking in on foot? I might be able to help.

I will be hiking. May have access to a quad, but I won't be holding my breath

Huge eastern portion of the unit is all State Land, which you are not allowed to camp on. So to access that area you need to go in/out every day and it's my understanding that with few roads, and those being very rough, a quad is the only way to do it.

The western portion of the unit is predominately BLM, on which you can camp.

Have never hunted the unit, so that's about all I know.

My understanding of the unit is that you cannot camp in it at all, regardless of state or blm land...

Yes you can camp on BLM here in NM no problem.

I bivied the Pelonas for 7 days.......oops It's been 10yrs, but man that was a blast in there! I never would have thought in a thousand years you couldn't spend the night in the woods? Water is no problem if it's a wet year, you can get to it.

State Trust Lands, you may:

Scout for big game 7-days prior to season

Hunt during season

Camp with the permission of the agricultural lessee, unless otherwise authorized by the Commissioner of Public Lands

Take up to 3 guests on your hunt

Lots of other details in the NM Rules & Info, but that's the gist of it.
