Sock Liners or Toe Socks
Elk
Contributors to this thread:
I'm hunting elk for the first time this fall in Wyoming. My boots are well broken in from hiking for the past few months.
I have a question about socks. A few years back I discovered how helpful sock liners are- my feet have been thankful. This year, my wife got me some toe socks for running. At first I thought they were goofy, but after running in them, I liked them (other than being a PITA to get on sometimes). Now I have been hiking using the toe socks with Smart Wool socks over them. I have absolutely no rubbing, callousing or blistering. Has anyone else used toe socks in place of sock liners? What are your thoughts?
Thanks, Dave
yes. if toe socks help with running and all the movement involved with that, just think of the benefit of wearing them with just only walking?
I don't wear regular sock liners anymore and I find that thick wool socks are more over-rated than anything else. I just use a pair of thin wool socks these days.

Love my 5 toe sock liners. I have seen guys get blister between the toes. Well not elk hunting but.
Here's a ebay link to 5 toe liners that I use.. They do get smelly fast.. I wash them in a creek when I can and hang them on my pack with a reusable zip tie. They dry fast.. Thanks for the input and the link Ed. I want to do everything I can to make sure I can hunt every minute I can and not be stuck at camp nursing sore feet!

I bought some toe socks a few years ago but I didn't like them. For me my toes worked better in boots with liners! Something about the individual toes being wrapped didn't feel right! Have a great hunt! C
That is definitely a different feeling, Charlie, that's for sure!
Yes you have to get use to them. For me it was easy. At noon I'd remove my wood socks and dry them and the sock liners out that most of the time just stay on my feet to dry.. Sometimes I'd dry them and the wool out and swap them with the dry ones in my pack. I do have reusable zip ties on my pack to tie them to the out side.. I never lost one tie to the pack. I try to take care of my feet the best I can.. Ed
"wood socks"...what are you, Dutch? lol
I hate toe socks, I'm with Charlie on this one.
