Getting pumped about this fall's upcoming hunt, it will be my first archery elk hunt. For the guys that have hunted the Snowies before, post up some positive stories and success pics to get my blood pumping even more than it already is. Any of you guys hunting the snowies this year?
I have hunted the Snowies almost every year since 1998. Beautiful country and some of the friendliest people in the nation. If you make your way near Encampment, check out the Bear Trap for a really good burger. Then head over to Saratoga and soak in the hot springs. The deer population is not as good as it used to be, but the elk seem to be doing just fine. I didn't draw WY this year, so I am "settling" for Colorado.

When I was in college (UW), I hunted it several times with a friend from Encampment. It was wild and wooly back then and I loved it. Unfortunately, I have not been out there since about '75.
I went to school in Laramie also and I lived out there for a while. I spent a lot of time in the Snowy Range area hunting, fishing, trapping, etc.
This view is from the Snowies just south of Centenial, looking east towards Laramie. That's the north end of Sheep Mt. that you see in the background. I sure wish I was going with you!!!!
I told my wife that when I die, to make a trip to Wyoming and go to this spot and let my ashes go into the wind! It was as close to Heaven as I'll ever get.
Not too far from Dallas Talbot's place......been there a few times myself. Gorgeous country!
Woods Walker that photo is unbelievable! Many times Ive been on that road looking north to those hills wishing I could just go take a hike up there...Friend from college has an old cabin up in the Keystone area we fished the heck out of those hills! Love that area.
See lots of moose but didn't ever see many elk, unless we got up pretty high.
WW- I wonder how many times that tree has been photographed?
If you started drinking in Woods Landing, you get drunk by the time you got to that tree. Not that I ever tried it.
Another UW grad here.
Snowy Range was one of my favorite spots. I actually saw more elk in the back of the Vedauwoo area.
This flat lander learned about forgetting your compass in an unexpected Snowy Range whiteout right at dusk.
Centennial had a place with the best steak sandwich in the world. Big moose mount on the wall.
I will be in 11 in about 6 weeks, Can't wait!!
Another UW grad here (2009) I spent a lot of time up in the Centenial area, dated a girl and her parents had a cabin up there.
Never did hunt while I was in Laramie, it was cheaper for me to fly home to Alberta and buy 9 OTC tags and hunt at home.
I did hunt turkeys with my bow one spring though.
I too went to college in Laramie way back in 1959-63. In those days the deer herd was great and very few elk. It's just the opposite now, as it is most places out west.
Have a great bow hunt. BB
LOL! I always wondered what the view looked like from up there. Never hunted there, but a buddy and I drove thru that area in late May on our way to Utah back in 1990. Camped at the State Park overnight and then tried to get over the pass the next day. Made it just past the ski area before having to turn around. Then we realized what that ROAD CLOSED sign was for just outside Laramie! ;-) Us East Coast boys were shocked to see that much snow in late May!

About four miles northwest from woods walkers pic. One of my favorite photos.

I don't know what I did more of at Woods Landing, drink/dance, or watch the fistfights in the parking lot!!
