I'm getting in pretty fair shape so I was looking at going into some of the rougher units that are otc. Some so rough I can get away from the crowds and hopefully get into some good elk. Any state with otc and elk and rough.

Colorado. Only a few weeks until Sept. You better get the details ironed out quick not much time left to get a few chords of wood cut.

Idaho is 83,570 sq. miles. If it were flat, it'd be over 300,000. :0)

Rough enough?

I haven't hunted Colorado, but diyhuntingmaps.com rates the roughness of terrain of every unit on a scale of 1-10 for both Colorado and Wyoming. Should be a pretty good tool.

TBM this is probably to rough for you to do any good. Highest elevation is about 8500 but its not OTC. I'd focus my time on finding elk not on how tough I can make a hunt.

Besides rougher isn't always better. Borrowed the picture from Stoney.

103 must be the bioligist favorit spot cause he acted weird about it...ha ha he didn't know I had the inside scoup. Can't wait to get out there where few fear to tread.

I agree with link, tougher isn't better. You can hike you way away from people rough or not.I've hunted 55 in Co. and that's some steep terrain. The Crazies in Mt are rough also.I prefer the Sierre Madres in wy.Not rough but tons of elk

Back in 2000, my brother and I both killed bulls the same day in Unit 74. We were about 5 miles back in a spike camp. Took us two and a half days to get all the meat and our camp out! My brother said he wouldn't hunt there again for a million dollars. Said I almost killed him, lol.
