The final countdowns have started.
For me, I'll be hunting 30 days from today.
Hunting WY ninety-seven leftover with dad from the 10th to the 20th, then ID seventeen OTC from the 21st to the 29th with my brother and a childhood friend of my brother and I. 3 partners, zero elk between the 3 of them - wish me luck.
So where's everyone headed and when?
(Don't be shy with your units! Every year, people act like they've invented the zone they're hunting in. Just type it out like I did and no one will Google it. If you still don't want to, fine, give us your state :)
It has begun 6 sleeps and a wake up from elk hunting 2014. Will be hunting the OTC units of Utah
Colorado 43. First 10 days.
Here's dad, bone-on-bone hips and all, 3 miles and 1500 ft into WY backcountry.
We're getting him one this year!
Yeah, keep thinking that and the wrong herd will show up in your favorite unit. I blabbed to much and my zero PP to draw unit went to a one PP unit to draw! I'm keeping it mums the word or lying about it from now on! Good luck to everyone!
Leave Thursday to scout/hunt Utah's opener on Saturday...Maybe!
4.5 days till heading out with my buddy on his Wasatch Utah LImited elk hunt. I'll be looking for a spike, cow or buck! I'll probably only see giant bulls with my luck.
"I blabbed to much and my zero PP to draw unit went to a one PP unit to draw!"
It must have been you, not the elk in the unit! :)
So what state are you hunting in and when?
Im going to X unit in X state to kill a XXX bull!!!
I really think it was me blabbing, the unit is just Ok unless you know the secret spot;-) I'm hunting Colorado, I'm too cheap to go out of state to hunt! I'm hunting OTC in the North end of the Flat Tops to start then probably do some day trips to units close to Denver after the ffirst week on my days off.
Wyo general on about 9-5 then a late bull tag in Az on the 29th
Colorado for 30 days of hunting.
Co 0 PP to draw unit (so I'm keepin it hush hush ;). Opening weekend with my 9 yr old son then will be back there for 9 days on the 18th if not successful on the opener. Good luck all!!
WY from 9/8 to 9/22. General tag. final count down is on
Idaho, Unit 51, 13th -21st
Best of luck everyone!
wish all of you luck and if you get one please post a photo for all of us that can no longer afford to take a trip and or like me my legs just do not work at 73 years young...
Going to leave for New Mexico on the 27th. Lord willing & if I have enough giddy & go I will then head up to Colorado for an OTC tag.
Ten days until 30 days in Utah and Colorado!
I'm going to be fending off the bears and wolves while trying to kill my first elk in MT 330. Leaving WI on the 9th or 10th. Solo!
Sept 15th thru the 26th OTC Colorado. Ive never hunted western Colorado before so I actually have 3 different areas picked out. Were going to start at the lowest elevation spot and if that dosnt produce will move up.
Leaving on Sept.8th for AZ, hunting the 12th-25th in unit 9. I think that secret spot is already out...
My countdown clock has already been running a loooooooooong time.
You're going to have a great hunt with your dad and then again with your brother and buddy. Good luck, good hunting, short bloodtrails.
Wyoming, general unit. Lost my job, so I guess I will go for most of the season.
Co. OTC first 10 days of the season. Good luck all.
Montana sept 6th -oct 19th if needed. Best of luck. HUNT
Wyoming general tag. 9/6 to 9/26. Hoping to get my first. Luck to all.
NM 6B, Valles Caldera, first hunt Sept 2-8.
Idaho panhandle tag . I'd apply for one of the either sex tags but don't want to to be tied to just one unit. But first things first.
Heading down to the Gila in 25 days. My dad and I drew tags for 11-18th. We'll be arriving late on the 6th and scouting the 7-10th. Hoping one or both of us can manage our first elk!
New Mexico unit 17, three friends and me. We will be heading down the 8th, hunt starts the 11th.
Best of luck to the Henry clan this year!
Setting my first camp August 28th and hunting until the season ends, even if I kill a bull early. Since this is a totally new area for me, I HAVE to find out how these spots I'm scouting work out as the season progresses.
Scouting 3-4 days a week now. With all this, all the hiking and camping, I may very well kill a bull in a little NF meadow about five minutes from my house, 1/4 mile from the road. I'm totally ready, champing at the bit...
Heres a few pics that get me in the... right frame of mind.
CO Unit 31. Sept. 24-28. Good luck to all and hopefully there will be a lot of stories and pics of everyone's kills.

CO OTC same as always. Hunting opener to the 10th. I hope to have my area good and wore out prior to the ML season.
Colorado 65&66 Sept 10-19. First year with the stickbow, but this should be a good place to start.
32 days until my dad and son's hunt in 4b AZ. I've had 5 cams out for a month and I can't wait to see the pics this weekend. We will hunt Sept. 12-21.
Sept 11th to ???? Big Belts in Montana.
My partners and I leave on the 28th for Co. We will be back in 54 again. Hopefully this year we fill some tags. After last years learning curve I think have a better chance. Going to pack in 6 miles for 2 strait weeks.
NE Oregon draw unit. Setting up camp opening weekend then back for the duration around the 7th or 8th.
Yep, ready to go.
On Saturday I went up and brought my bull home finally. The day I killed him I had to be home early next morning, so we had to hurry and only took out the meat first trip. Finally got back to the truck loaded down at just past midnight and didn't have the gumption to go back in to get the rack, and definitely didn't have time. I was just going I could get back in later. It's just small enough that my motivation wasn't real high. I finally got back in there to get it this weekend and brought him home. Last year's hunt is now over just I time for this year's! Good luck guys
Sorry, sticking with the thread... I'll be all over the Laramie range as well as the sierras and Snowies throughout the month! This is the sierra madres.

New Mexico 1-10 with a buddy....then up to Colorado in a LE unit that I've waited 6 years to draw. Picking up my wife, sister-in-law and my 9 month old daughter along the way for a few days of scouting and hiking, then it's 8 days alone in the wilderness to get the job done.
