We're only a few days out from most seasons opening....let's see those past years' elk pics. Camp, kills, field, etc...
Camp setup a few miles in the night before opener.
Someone else had success here :)
New Mexico 2010 6 miles into the Wilderness
After tagging out in NM, I headed to Colorado to hunt with a Cheesehead from Wisconsin.
Last years camp in Colorado. Heading back out on the 12th.
We watched the bull make this rub for 10 minutes, just couldn't get close enough for the shot.
I went back a couple weeks later for first season rifle opener with my dad.
There was a fair amount of bugling for rifle season.
My dad's first bull at 64 years old
2011 Packed up and getting ready to head to Colorado, OTC.
Where in the world would we put two elk??
A nice 300 class 6x6 that was shot a little after noon a week into the hunt.
Great pics and memories, Les! Getting excited for this season? lol good luck!
We still laugh at this one....
2011 CO rifle for my dad's second elk hunt. This time we took my 8 year old son.
I know it's a rifle hunt, but look at the smile on Hunter's face. He heard his first bugle in the darkness that morning, Day 2. He was sitting right next to grandpa when this lone bull came moving through around 11 am, silently. He was going somewhere having been pushed from by other hunters.
2012 We were packed to the hilt again for Colorado.
Our second year in this unit, we are going in with a better idea of what to expect.
One of the 2012 CO OTC bivy camps we had.
2012 Utah.
I'm 2 for 2 on elk hunting. Hoping to make my own luck and keep the streak alive.

Fire on the mountain....well not really just the start of a beautiful sunrise...two days left to hunt.
The moon was setting on that last night in 2012.
2013 Colorado again, this time a different unit. Would the results be different this year?
One of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen.
My 2014 camp is already set up
This bull is in the last issue of Extreme Elk. Part 2, The Bulls of Horseshoe Mountain.
NDvideo, that snowy overlook picture is awesome!
Gil, how is the leg doing now? You got big shoes to fill this year!
Thanks Nick, yes I am excited and ready to get going. It doesn't seem like 11 months ago that we were out West on our last hunt, crazy.
Jason, good luck. When do you start? Coming back to WI this year at all?
Cnelk, when are you starting, this week-end?
6:01am August 30th, 2014 - til Im done
Just A friendly FYI if that's your dad rifle hunting in Colorado he needs to have on complete blaze orange not camo orange to be compliant with the division of wildlife regs
2013 Elk Camp Woke up third morning and our tents were surrounded by moose. 4 bulls and two cows 501 yards away. I'll be back here in a couple weeks.
Er, that was 5-10 yards away from our tents ...
Awesome pics, it's getting close!
Man that 2012 spot Ohvaco is a lesson on where NOT to put your tent.....
My 2013 camp during one of the few breaks in the rain
Beendare, I know what you're saying. It was our first year there and we were in a tough spot for sure. Beetle kill everywhere. That camp spot was the best of we could find - we analyzed it heavily taking into account direction of tree lean, prevailing wind - and overall beautiful view as it would be a good place to die if it were our time! We hunted the same area last year but camped in a different location with a much safer campsite. The one you see in the 2013 pic. Plan to be back there in two weeks.
2013 September 27th! Some crazy weather last year but elk didn't mind so neither did my wife our two boys (toddlers) and I! We took turns hunting and exploring with the boys.
This my Montana elk camp were I will start my 2014 elk season
This will be my setup at my Arizona elk camp. With out the Rhino. I will have my Razor
In Arizona I will set up my wall tent as are cook house
I will have my 4 burner camper stove with oven in my tent
Dang good thread Les.
Good luck, Robb
2012 Colorado Wilderness. Heading back in a week.
Here is a rub from another place we hunt.
2012. Headed back in a few days.
2012. Headed back in a few days.
Neat setup Brunse! Idaho?
Valle Vidal's Cimmaron CG, NM. 2012. Notice the coolers under the trailer. Bears are said to be an issue, so we would just set the coolers under the trailer rear and crank the jack up, thereby weighting with several hundred pounds.
Of course the better way to keeps bears out of your coolers; have a tag in your pocket. 17 days.....
After bagging my bull with Triple Three in Wyoming.... The ceremony of the leaky boots :)

Sothern Colorado actually. We like to base camp and ride out daily or overnight. We see a lot of country that way, but it isn't the most efficient way to chase elk... or deer I suspect!
These are northern Colorado of our routine camp

Notice the trailer between the corral and tent? Mud comes off a trailer easier than a tent!!
last one. Corral when there are too many people along.
This will be our 5th year. GMU 18
Heading out Sept 15th. And Oct 31st 2014
Arriving in Colorado 2013.
Leaving the butcher one week later,2013.
Now all packed up and heading home. 2013.
Leaving on the 12th for the same unit.
This year, right at tree line.
Sept 4th, 2014 a friend from Wy. posted his good fortune.
BB's Camp! Honored to be there!
SteveB - I'm sure the guys from Danner Boots are going to cringe when they see that photo of their product in the fire! My Danner boots seem to soak up moisture from wet grass!
NM. Hunt starts Thursday hopefully we will have a few located by then.

See the Story at the link provided
Best of Luck, Jeff
Last 8 days of the Colorado Season, 3 miles from the truck.
My camp kitchen. No elk this year but had a great time.
Northern New Mexico 2014, 3 friends (2 hunters)elk action but no shots. Thanks to Leroy for putting us on to the elk. Had a total of 6 bulls come to our calls. Saw and heard plenty of elk, just could not close the deal. Dusty and warm towards the end. I did most of the cooking...nobody died. LOL! New Mexico folks were friendly and we had no issues with our camp. Just an empty meat pole. Bulls were together early and cows with calfs spotted by their lonesome. Did see cows with a bull late into the hunt. A few came in silent, the three of use got busted once at 20yd. by a spike in stealth mode. Others circled to get our wind. I got educated, and lost 12#. The other 2 guys lost 6 and 7# each. 2400 mi. round trip with no drama. We will try again in 2015 if possible. Good Luck everyone. LaGriz
The shower with Zodi was a big hit! Every piece of clothing I owned was utilized, except the raingear. I enjoy seeing eveyone's camps. Great Posts!
That's awesome Paul, at your age and still rough'n it. can only hope to say I'm still able to rough it at 70.
2014 New Mexico.
Back in camp a half hour before sunset when my 6 yr old decided the camp fire was much less boring than chasing screaming bulls. We listened to bugling bulls over the sounds of a crackling fire while we made smores and legal light faded.
Wouldn't trade it for anything, I wish my 6 yr old and I were in camp NOT killing any elk right now!
Hoping to get to do it next year again......
2014 Bull , awesome season can't wait for next year!
Nothing like a comfortable camp and a warm adult beverage after a hard hunt....
Awesome pictures, makes me jelouse. Congrats on the animals. Ray
2014 Colorado - can't wait to get back
Great pictures! I'll finally be able to make some more of my own next season.
I love the night pics, glacial21 and c3. What was your camera setup for those?
Umm yeah, another Bowsite WTF :) Not mine.
We hunted hard....when we weren't eating :)
First year to take a quad and didn't even need it. I was camped a quarter mile from the end of the road!
Thanks for sharing everyone some beautiful country and some nice elk .
I love these type threads!
Sweet camps/set-ups fella's.
Good luck, Robb
