Success in the Valle Vidal

I wanted to share some pics from my hunt in the Valle Vidal. I was able to connect with this bull on the third evening of the hunt. Many thanks to those on here who offered up advice and information for my first elk hunt. It was truly "a once in a lifetime tag".

We were several miles into the timber and had been hunting hard all afternoon (for 3 days really). We had logged over 10 miles this day and hadn't heard a single bugle. It was getting late so we started making our way back to the truck when all of a sudden this guy let loose.
We figured he was heading towards the water we passed earlier in the day so we took off at a sprint down the draw. We slid into position about 20 seconds before the first cow came over the tank dam. Another cow came over and then he bugled one more time before topping the dam. He was covered in mud from the wallow on the other side of the dam...solid black.
I put an arrow through him at 58 yards. He ran about 75 yards before we got to watch him tip over. 6x7 that grossed 354 1/2". Definitely the neatest experience I've ever had.
That place is nothing short of amazing. Some of the prettiest country I've ever seen.

great bull - say, what was your setup? poundage, arrows, weight, broadheads etc .... if you don't mind ?

I've hunted on the VV twice. Once I was just the Sherpa for my brother-in-law. Both times were fantastic. I would encourage everyone to put your name in the pot for this hunt. You may get lucky like I did and draw the first year you apply.

Congrats! I had a great time on my VV hunt last year. I had the 2nd archery hunt and it was incredible. shot a really cool 5X3 with a long drop down club. that's the reason why I shot him.
How many points are generally needed to draw VV?
